The air is humid, and unusually warm for this early in spring. The plants around are just a bit unfamiliar: giant ferns, things that look like palm trees mixed oddly with towering conifers, shrubs with fan-shaped leaves, plants sprouting objects that look halfway between flowers and pine cones. Water splashes and trickles, probably from a stream somewhere nearby. Leaves rustle in the breeze, and there are distant animal noises - but none that sound like the Pokemon cries you'd expect to hear in the forests of today.
...is it still today?

Everything about the Pokemon world is already surreal, so he's grading this on a curve. But still... there's an actual dinosaur in front of him. A Tyrunt, according to his PokeGear, who is about the size of a dog and looks young enough that Joseph could probably send his Pokemon after it. And it's been following him for a while, making little noises as though it's hungry and hoping for scraps. Funny how the wonder of new creatures tends to slide immediately into frustration at them... acting like animals.
"Hey, clear off already! I'm not giving you anything."
The Tyrunt makes another whining grunt, and moves closer. Joseph slides his foot under it, trying to push it back and away - already a bold move considering how large the Tyrunt's mouth is.
Even bolder when there's a very high chance that the creature's mother is around.
ii. Run awayyy!
Later on (a few hours or a few days) Joseph is back on his bullshit. He had warned Suzi Q about bugs, and tried to play it off like he was worried about her, but he actually really hates how many bugs are the size of his Charmander. And he has just discovered something that might be his worst nightmare - a Slither Wing, whose body is larger than a Great Dane and whose wings would brush the ceiling of most houses.
And he's managed to make it very angry.
Joseph is currently running at full clip, being chased by a rampaging Slither Wing while his Charmander breathes Embers from his safe perch on Joseph's shoulder. He may run into you by accident, or slow down if you manage to stop the Slither Wing in its tracks.
iii. Wildcard!
[ Feel free to throw anything at him, or come plot with me at necromantica! Also feel free to assume any or all of his Pokemon are out of their balls, possibly perched on him or just wandering around. ]
He might be worried about the bugs, but Suzi's... having a fine time? Maybe it's because she's not actively going out of her way to give the ancient Pokemon reasons to attack? Yeah, probably that latter one, actually.
Especially since her Chikorita seems to be having the time of her life just prancing after her trainer and having no problems keeping the majority of Pokemon chill, calm, and collected around them. The bonuses of that being Your Default (tm).
Unfortunately that means she absolutely saw the whole thing with the Slither Wing and, uh, didn't get involved.
Perhaps smartly in this case.
"Maybe you shouldn't give them a reason to chase you." Captain obvious.
"Well that doesn't help me much now!" It feels like he's been saying that a lot lately.
Joseph ends up dodging behind a tree, which does not fool the Slither Wing for a second. It skids to a halt, and beats its wings to use Poison Powder on anything in its vicinity. Rush takes this as a cue to jump off of Joseph's shoulder and take a fighting stance... and immediately get hit by the Powder.
"Do you think anyone's going to care if we double up against this thing?" Hint hint.
"This is how many you've upset at this point?" Is she teasing him while he's running away from it? Of course, it's not like he can't handle himself if it came down to it, so she's not overly concerned.
... Okay maybe the poison powder is a little bit of a worry and she's sighing while pushing herself off of the tree she'd been leaning against, not needing to say anything as Fiore casually bounds over towards the Slither Wing to try and get its attention and start waving her head leaf around to see if it'll get it to chill out.
Why fight when you can make friends instead? Because something that can use fire attacking a grass type sounds like a bad idea. "Or Fiore can see if she can get it to calm down?"
Rui is exploring when he comes across Joseph and the Tyrunt. He chuckles at the scene in front of him. That Pokemon is a lot less scary than it's evolved form, which means Rui sees very little reason to worry.
"Do you need help over there~?" He does eventually offer, not having any plan for how to help just yet.
The Slither Wing beats its wings a few more times, but does at least stop attacking. It's eyeing Rush suspiciously, but lowers itself onto all fours and turns its attention mostly to Fiore. Her calming scent does seem to be helping a lot.
Rush pauses, similarly, unsure if he should keep attacking something that has finally shifted its attention away. And Joseph, of course, is immediately annoyed that befriending the Pokemon is working once again.
"I was just teasing it." He grumbles. Teasing it, making fun of it to its face, same thing.
Befriending the Pokemon comes through yet again. Especially because Fiore is happily trotting over to the big bug before sitting down in front of it and looking absolutely anything but aggressive. Bugs, grass, whatever, close enough difference that Fiore doesn't see a point in bothering the ancient Pokemon right now.
"Your definition of teasing is maaaaaaybe a bit different from everyone else's," she returns simply enough. Unfortunate for him that she's very much on team "let's not anger the Pokemon". "Also maybe don't put poor Rush into battles that won't go well for him?" BE NICE TO YOUR POKEMON, JOSEPH.
"Yes, actually - you don't happen to speak T-rex, do you?" He pushes the Tyrunt away again, who seems to be getting more and more frustrated with the treatment. "This thing doesn't seem to take 'I'm not feeding you' for an answer."
One day he'll start using the actual names of Pokemon, but that day is not today. Charmanders are lizards and Tyrunts are T-rexes.
"I wish~ I'm afraid, I only speak a couple human languages."
He is still very clearly amused by the situation, but he does take a second to think before rifling through his bag.
"If it won't take 'I'm not feeding you' ...then perhaps the best answer is to feed it," He pulls out a large Pokemon treat from his bag. He waves the treat around to get the Pokemon's attention on him, and then tosses the treat as far as he can into the forest.
"I think it's very nice of him to defend his owner." He puts on a self-righteous tone, even though he knows full-well that she's correct. He just can't help himself.
Rush puffs his chest out and hisses, as though trying to assert that he definitely could've taken the Slither Wing. But he is, also, very thankful that Fiore is de-escalating, and retreats to climb back onto Joseph's shoulder. The Slither Wing hesitates to completely relax around Joseph and Rush, but it does at least fold its wings back and touch its nose to Fiore's head in a friendly gesture.
"He wouldn't have to if you hadn't have made it upset in the first place~" Doesn't he just hate it when she's right?
Fiore is at least having a good time given the cross-eyed look when her head is touched as she tries to focus on what the Slither Wing is doing. Luckily that fades just as quickly and she's settling herself down to lay on the grass properly, happy to just chitter away to the ancient Pokemon as if they've been friends forever.
"Honestly, I'm glad she's as keen to intervene as she is." Because she's... pretty sure fighting would not go too well for the tiny grass type.
The Tyrunt immediately switches gears, following the treat eagerly with its head and then diving into the undergrowth when it's thrown. Joseph shakes himself off, unwilling to admit how thankful he is that he didn't get bitten by another Pokemon this time.
"I- thank you." Every 'thanks' sounds like pulling teeth coming from him, even if it's genuine. "Although... I'm not sure we're in the clear yet, it might come back for more."
Joseph grumbles a while longer, but slides over behind Suzi so he can wrap his arms around her waist, and lean his head on her shoulder. He's not going to admit he lost the argument in as many words, but he can make it up by being cute at her.
"You did get lucky, she's a good pet. And you're a good owner."
As if on cue, Rush shivers and coughs, and Joseph remembers that he did very much just get poisoned. Oops, time to let go of Suzi so he can search his bag for a cure.
Jurassic Jotho is frightening in the dark, I mean, daylight!
If he thinks that his life in the Pokémon world hasn’t gotten any weirder or that he wouldn’t go back to time traveling again, Harry has been most certainly proven wrong today. A few hours ago he and Jotaro and their teams are on their way to Mahogany Town to face Pryce, only for him to be stranded in a big giant unfamiliar forest with equally unfamiliar flora and fauna.
Thankfully his travel gear, including his PokéGear and Prom outfit, and his team have arrived with him as well. Although those things did little to reassure him out of his anxiety and concerns of being displaced in time again. From what he could tell, it appears that Cara isn’t responsible for this time travel incident this time. No inventions gone wrong or Cara meddling or angry rampaging Arceus to be found at all.
And to make things even more complicated, he discovered that out of all his Pokémon he has brought along for the Glacier badge battle, Molly, who had just gotten out of her PokéBall, has the unfortunate honor of being devolved to a Pichu and being horribly under-leveled. She is annoyed by this temporary change and is sticking very close to her Trainer as she could help it as Harry tries to navigate around the forest.
“Gosh, Molly. It has been a couple of minutes since we arrived in here and there doesn’t seem to be anybody here right now that we can find and meet up,” Harry tells his now Pichu.
“Pichu! Pichu, Pi…” Molly grumbles, clearly upset that she can’t float around on her tail right now.
If anyone happens to cross paths with a worrisome glasses wearing man and his currently tiny (and grumpy) electric mouse, try to give him a frantic wave to let him know that he and Molly aren’t alone in this strange place.
Normally, Doppio may not pay much mind to a grown man in danger -- for so many reasons, up to and including the fact that he's usually more preoccupied with taking care of someone smaller than the average size and mass of a grown man. As in, you know, himself.
But it's the Charmander that gives him pause. That tiny little guy, trying so hard to keep that huge thing at bay... If its trainer gets tired, it doesn't stand a chance!
That means there's only one thing to do.
"Connie! You're up!"
And that's the only warning the Slither Wing gets before a Cinderace kicks a powerful Pyro Ball straight at it.
Edited (it might help. if i remembered to write what prompt i'm tagging) 2025-04-16 21:57 (UTC)
The Pyro Ball connects directly with the Slither Wing's shoulder, and it lets out an angry shriek, stopping to rear onto its hind legs. Joseph, meanwhile, stops to catch his breath once he's gotten a few feet behind Doppio - that feels safe enough to watch the battle.
"My hero!" He cheers, "Just- don't get yourself killed on my behalf."
He has to physically grab his Charmander, to prevent Rush from trying to join the battle. The Slither Wing, meanwhile, is charging forward to Stomp Doppio's Cinderace.
"You're welcome~" Rui isn't bothered by his tone. He's used to such a thing back home.
"Which is why we should probably make ourselves scarce while it's distracted," He doesn't seem concerned either way. Both staying and going could lead to interesting outcomes after all.
He does pause for a moment - he may seem like an idiot most of the time, but he's a deeply analytical idiot, and he's doing his best to clock what Rui's general deal is without making it too obvious.
But he also really doesn't want that Tyrunt to come back, so he takes off powerwalking as soon as he hears a rustle in the bushes.
"So - who do I have the pleasure of being rescued by?"
I say Joseph might notice Rui's fashion choices, but I've seen some of the stuff Joseph wears lol
"My name is Rui Kamishiro. I'm a director and actor," He introduces himself, and if it sounds like Rui had more to say there, that wasn't his imagination. He easily keeps pace with Joseph even though he's taller. He's made plenty of escapes before today, after all. He seems to be enjoying this too.
The most obvious thing about Rui is that he has a horrible taste in fashion, with many patterns and colors. But Joseph may also notice some slight stains on his clothes from either oil from his robotics work, or dirt from working in the garden. He's still learning how to do chores properly, after all.
"And who did I end up saving?"
Edited 2025-04-18 02:01 (UTC)
no Jojo character can ever judge someone's fashion lmao
His color choices don't draw Joseph's attention as much as the stains - Rui is not someone who abstains from work, and he can respect that (even if he personally hates working). Rui also strikes him as someone who just enjoys being involved in things, which he definitely relates to.
"Joseph Joestar is my name." There's a lot of pride in that name, as though it's meant to mean something to everyone he talks to. "I come from a wealthy family back in England, although.. I didn't manage to bring of that wealth with me. Good thing that doesn't matter as much in the jungle, right?"
[Emporio has a headache. A raging headache that tends to come when one is severely displaced in some way and-] AH-!
[Shit. The teen scrambles to his feet. Okay- pokeballs, who happen to be the ones he was training, so that might not work out well...Woods, woods he doesn't recognize, let's see the Pokegear and try to contact someone then and...
...Uh oh.] Shoot. No signal... ...and I don't think I have much on me other than a knife either...
[A screech passes overhead. Emporio looks up, expecting some sort of flying pokemon and.
Pales.]
W...
Was that an aerodactyl..?
[WHEN ALL YOU HAVE IS A KNIFE]
[All told, he's not done too badly. Bushcrafting as some call it, is kind of Emporio's thing. It's something offered in the courses, and something he's partaken in along various routes too- something that resulted in a lot of small shelters that people can just, make use of.
Here in the seeming ancient past, it's not much different. He made himself a small shelter quick, of course, but now he's working on larger options for more people. Working on a defensive perimeter, on a look out, on...]
Hm?
[A call from the pokemon he has keeping watch. Emporio turns his head down to see who's approaching.] Oh, hey!!
Have you been out there long? Over here, I can get something cooking..!
- Foraging and hunting. Well, he doesn't comment on the latter bit but, foraging. They need to find a good supply of food, and ensure fresh water remains fresh. And... ...Uh oh, something's rustling out there.
[FIGHT OR FRIGHT]
[What with the situation at hand, there's a lot of foraging to be done if they're all going to have food until this resolves. Emporio's got a pretty good handle on that- explaining what seems to still be edible, making sure the water is clean and all that. But they still have to go out there for it, and so here he is with a partner.
Never go into woods like this alone, after all.
In any case...all is going well. They've got some good mushrooms, some wild plants, and-]
[Cali was out foraging with Chantilly and the Archen that seemed to have adopted her group (Sweet Sixteen had been sulking in her backpack after becoming an Applin again) when she encounters Emporio. Before Cali could even greet him, cue the surprise Aerodactyl flying over head to temporarily derail her train(s) of thought.]
Woah! So that's what it's called! This day sure has been wild, right?
(Even though this is the second time he has been sent back into the past in the Pokémon world, Harry still can’t get over how different Jurassic era Jotho is compared to Hisui and he isn’t sure of where his travel buddy Jotaro and his team are in this vast giant forest. But there is no time to mope and be a major worrywort about the change in scenery, there is a lot to do to survive in this different environment.
He thankfully has all his travel gear in his backpack at the time so he can share the stuff with anyone who didn’t have much on hand at this time and help set up a camp area.
Now he was in the middle of gathering fire wood with a very grumpy Molly the Pichu (who is very unhappy of her current situation) when both Trainer and Pokémon found Emporio and witnessed the Aerodactyl flying over their heads. After the ancient Pokémon left, Harry decides to meet up with him and see if he’s okay.)
Hey! Over here. Me and Molly are just in the middle of firewood gathering when that Aerodactyl flew by. I was not expecting it to be this big until today,
He's speaking from experience. On one occasion, when someone actively tried to kill him, he just... woke up in the last PokéCenter he'd visited, basically unharmed. It seems to be one of those things that go against the laws of this world. So... he's not too worried. On the off-chance that a giant prehistoric moth is too much even for a level 100 Cinderace, he'll just--
Wait oh god PokeCenters don't exist yet does that mean he'll "-- Shit! Connie, get out of the way!"
It's a little too late, though - the Cincerace gets hit head-on. Luckily, she still seems to have plenty of fight in her.
"Just... keep pelting it!"
Surely a bug can only take so many flaming balls to the face.
Joseph either hasn't been told about the death thing or didn't pay attention - either is entirely possible. He probably won't learn from experience, either, since historically nothing can seem to kill him.
Fortunately, though, the Slither Wing doesn't take that many hits. One more Pyro Ball is enough to knock it unconscious, and Joseph is impressed enough to whistle as it crashes to the ground.
"Holy shit... Thank God I'm on your side."
He finally lets go of Rush, and the Charmander scampers over to blow one more Ember at the Slither Wing, just to be a sore winner.
