The air is humid, and unusually warm for this early in spring. The plants around are just a bit unfamiliar: giant ferns, things that look like palm trees mixed oddly with towering conifers, shrubs with fan-shaped leaves, plants sprouting objects that look halfway between flowers and pine cones. Water splashes and trickles, probably from a stream somewhere nearby. Leaves rustle in the breeze, and there are distant animal noises - but none that sound like the Pokemon cries you'd expect to hear in the forests of today.
...is it still today?
Welcome to prehistoric Johto!
Event Info:here! Make your own posts, or play here!
Everything about the Pokemon world is already surreal, so he's grading this on a curve. But still... there's an actual dinosaur in front of him. A Tyrunt, according to his PokeGear, who is about the size of a dog and looks young enough that Joseph could probably send his Pokemon after it. And it's been following him for a while, making little noises as though it's hungry and hoping for scraps. Funny how the wonder of new creatures tends to slide immediately into frustration at them... acting like animals.
"Hey, clear off already! I'm not giving you anything."
The Tyrunt makes another whining grunt, and moves closer. Joseph slides his foot under it, trying to push it back and away - already a bold move considering how large the Tyrunt's mouth is.
Even bolder when there's a very high chance that the creature's mother is around.
ii. Run awayyy!
Later on (a few hours or a few days) Joseph is back on his bullshit. He had warned Suzi Q about bugs, and tried to play it off like he was worried about her, but he actually really hates how many bugs are the size of his Charmander. And he has just discovered something that might be his worst nightmare - a Slither Wing, whose body is larger than a Great Dane and whose wings would brush the ceiling of most houses.
And he's managed to make it very angry.
Joseph is currently running at full clip, being chased by a rampaging Slither Wing while his Charmander breathes Embers from his safe perch on Joseph's shoulder. He may run into you by accident, or slow down if you manage to stop the Slither Wing in its tracks.
iii. Wildcard!
[ Feel free to throw anything at him, or come plot with me at necromantica! Also feel free to assume any or all of his Pokemon are out of their balls, possibly perched on him or just wandering around. ]
He might be worried about the bugs, but Suzi's... having a fine time? Maybe it's because she's not actively going out of her way to give the ancient Pokemon reasons to attack? Yeah, probably that latter one, actually.
Especially since her Chikorita seems to be having the time of her life just prancing after her trainer and having no problems keeping the majority of Pokemon chill, calm, and collected around them. The bonuses of that being Your Default (tm).
Unfortunately that means she absolutely saw the whole thing with the Slither Wing and, uh, didn't get involved.
Perhaps smartly in this case.
"Maybe you shouldn't give them a reason to chase you." Captain obvious.
"Well that doesn't help me much now!" It feels like he's been saying that a lot lately.
Joseph ends up dodging behind a tree, which does not fool the Slither Wing for a second. It skids to a halt, and beats its wings to use Poison Powder on anything in its vicinity. Rush takes this as a cue to jump off of Joseph's shoulder and take a fighting stance... and immediately get hit by the Powder.
"Do you think anyone's going to care if we double up against this thing?" Hint hint.
Rui is exploring when he comes across Joseph and the Tyrunt. He chuckles at the scene in front of him. That Pokemon is a lot less scary than it's evolved form, which means Rui sees very little reason to worry.
"Do you need help over there~?" He does eventually offer, not having any plan for how to help just yet.
"Yes, actually - you don't happen to speak T-rex, do you?" He pushes the Tyrunt away again, who seems to be getting more and more frustrated with the treatment. "This thing doesn't seem to take 'I'm not feeding you' for an answer."
One day he'll start using the actual names of Pokemon, but that day is not today. Charmanders are lizards and Tyrunts are T-rexes.
Normally, Doppio may not pay much mind to a grown man in danger -- for so many reasons, up to and including the fact that he's usually more preoccupied with taking care of someone smaller than the average size and mass of a grown man. As in, you know, himself.
But it's the Charmander that gives him pause. That tiny little guy, trying so hard to keep that huge thing at bay... If its trainer gets tired, it doesn't stand a chance!
That means there's only one thing to do.
"Connie! You're up!"
And that's the only warning the Slither Wing gets before a Cinderace kicks a powerful Pyro Ball straight at it.
Edited (it might help. if i remembered to write what prompt i'm tagging) 2025-04-16 21:57 (UTC)
The Pyro Ball connects directly with the Slither Wing's shoulder, and it lets out an angry shriek, stopping to rear onto its hind legs. Joseph, meanwhile, stops to catch his breath once he's gotten a few feet behind Doppio - that feels safe enough to watch the battle.
"My hero!" He cheers, "Just- don't get yourself killed on my behalf."
He has to physically grab his Charmander, to prevent Rush from trying to join the battle. The Slither Wing, meanwhile, is charging forward to Stomp Doppio's Cinderace.
Honestly, he's at least half joking. When Suzi appeared it seemed like it'd be okay! And the two were slated to head off, start their journey, and then...uh.
Well, all of this happened, and he's at least glad they're okay. Well, Joseph seems okay at least, he hasn't found Suzi yet after all. Still.
He's watching disaster brew right before his eyes. Right before his eyes...
The effect of him being disappointed and crossing his arms is probably only enhanced by the fact that he was yoinked here in his caving gym outfit. Which is to say, it's impossible to miss the brilliant gold and reflective bands, and therefore, impossible to miss the disappointment.
"You know that little guy can probably bite your entire boot off right..?"
Jurassic Jotho is frightening in the dark, I mean, daylight!
If he thinks that his life in the Pokémon world hasn’t gotten any weirder or that he wouldn’t go back to time traveling again, Harry has been most certainly proven wrong today. A few hours ago he and Jotaro and their teams are on their way to Mahogany Town to face Pryce, only for him to be stranded in a big giant unfamiliar forest with equally unfamiliar flora and fauna.
Thankfully his travel gear, including his PokéGear and Prom outfit, and his team have arrived with him as well. Although those things did little to reassure him out of his anxiety and concerns of being displaced in time again. From what he could tell, it appears that Cara isn’t responsible for this time travel incident this time. No inventions gone wrong or Cara meddling or angry rampaging Arceus to be found at all.
And to make things even more complicated, he discovered that out of all his Pokémon he has brought along for the Glacier badge battle, Molly, who had just gotten out of her PokéBall, has the unfortunate honor of being devolved to a Pichu and being horribly under-leveled. She is annoyed by this temporary change and is sticking very close to her Trainer as she could help it as Harry tries to navigate around the forest.
“Gosh, Molly. It has been a couple of minutes since we arrived in here and there doesn’t seem to be anybody here right now that we can find and meet up,” Harry tells his now Pichu.
“Pichu! Pichu, Pi…” Molly grumbles, clearly upset that she can’t float around on her tail right now.
If anyone happens to cross paths with a worrisome glasses wearing man and his currently tiny (and grumpy) electric mouse, try to give him a frantic wave to let him know that he and Molly aren’t alone in this strange place.
Jotaro's also been wandering around since they've been separated. It's been harrowing, not knowing what happened and being thrust into an unfamiliar place, but Jotaro's been keeping a cool head. Next to Jotaro, his Hariyama cautiously looks around, a small Stufful in its arms.
"Stufful!"
"I know you're small again, Bearbarian. Just hang on..." Jotaro reassures his Pokemon until he sees a familiar face. He sighs in relief and waves.
While it did took him a while to recognize the voice due to the initial shock of being sent back to the age of dinosaur like Pokémon, Harry is able to locate the location of the voice and learns that Jotaro and Bearbarian are also in the forest, jungle, or whatever this wilderness is supposed to be called. There is no way that he could not forget a familiar face in the middle of prehistoric greenery.
Either way, Molly soon runs as fast as she could to meet up with and he follows suit, hoping that they are okay after the landing. Despite being shrunk back to be a Pichu, Molly is still fast on her feet as indicated by her speedy response.
“Hey Jotaro! We’re here as well. Are you and your team alright?”
[Emporio has a headache. A raging headache that tends to come when one is severely displaced in some way and-] AH-!
[Shit. The teen scrambles to his feet. Okay- pokeballs, who happen to be the ones he was training, so that might not work out well...Woods, woods he doesn't recognize, let's see the Pokegear and try to contact someone then and...
...Uh oh.] Shoot. No signal... ...and I don't think I have much on me other than a knife either...
[A screech passes overhead. Emporio looks up, expecting some sort of flying pokemon and.
Pales.]
W...
Was that an aerodactyl..?
[WHEN ALL YOU HAVE IS A KNIFE]
[All told, he's not done too badly. Bushcrafting as some call it, is kind of Emporio's thing. It's something offered in the courses, and something he's partaken in along various routes too- something that resulted in a lot of small shelters that people can just, make use of.
Here in the seeming ancient past, it's not much different. He made himself a small shelter quick, of course, but now he's working on larger options for more people. Working on a defensive perimeter, on a look out, on...]
Hm?
[A call from the pokemon he has keeping watch. Emporio turns his head down to see who's approaching.] Oh, hey!!
Have you been out there long? Over here, I can get something cooking..!
- Foraging and hunting. Well, he doesn't comment on the latter bit but, foraging. They need to find a good supply of food, and ensure fresh water remains fresh. And... ...Uh oh, something's rustling out there.
[FIGHT OR FRIGHT]
[What with the situation at hand, there's a lot of foraging to be done if they're all going to have food until this resolves. Emporio's got a pretty good handle on that- explaining what seems to still be edible, making sure the water is clean and all that. But they still have to go out there for it, and so here he is with a partner.
Never go into woods like this alone, after all.
In any case...all is going well. They've got some good mushrooms, some wild plants, and-]
[Cali was out foraging with Chantilly and the Archen that seemed to have adopted her group (Sweet Sixteen had been sulking in her backpack after becoming an Applin again) when she encounters Emporio. Before Cali could even greet him, cue the surprise Aerodactyl flying over head to temporarily derail her train(s) of thought.]
Woah! So that's what it's called! This day sure has been wild, right?
[It's a wild day and it's just starting...Emporio just nods mutely, eyes still upward. It's enough that he doesn't even clue in that Cali is...someone he's never actually met, might be good to introduce himself.
(Even though this is the second time he has been sent back into the past in the Pokémon world, Harry still can’t get over how different Jurassic era Jotho is compared to Hisui and he isn’t sure of where his travel buddy Jotaro and his team are in this vast giant forest. But there is no time to mope and be a major worrywort about the change in scenery, there is a lot to do to survive in this different environment.
He thankfully has all his travel gear in his backpack at the time so he can share the stuff with anyone who didn’t have much on hand at this time and help set up a camp area.
Now he was in the middle of gathering fire wood with a very grumpy Molly the Pichu (who is very unhappy of her current situation) when both Trainer and Pokémon found Emporio and witnessed the Aerodactyl flying over their heads. After the ancient Pokémon left, Harry decides to meet up with him and see if he’s okay.)
Hey! Over here. Me and Molly are just in the middle of firewood gathering when that Aerodactyl flew by. I was not expecting it to be this big until today,
(She is clearly so new to the whole time traveling situation as Isabela is struggling with trying to find any help without getting hopelessly lost in the forests and that lack of experience has clearly left her unprepared for it.
It is one thing to have lived in an established town surrounded by a tropical rainforest and it is another thing to be stranded in ancient times forests. It is a miracle that she has her travel stuff and Pokémon with her when everyone got sent to the past.
As she is walking around with whatever edible fruits and nuts she has gathered so far, she crosses paths with Emporio and her presence is being noticed.)
Oh hello there. I’m afraid that I have been in this place for quite some time now and this might be the first time I have gotten sent back to the past. Sorry if I sound like I have no idea of what to do at this time.
I. Exploring [After an...exciting arrival, Rui is taking the time to explore the area. Thankfully, he still has Wattson, the Pawmot, on his team, so he's able to record everything with his Pokegear.]
Here we are, in Prehistoric Johto. As you can see even the flora is vastly different than what we are used to in modern times. Perhaps, if we're lucky, we may even see a Pokemon native to this time period.
II. Foraging [Food is important. And Rui's candy supply will only last him so long. He needs to find something more substantial before then. Perhaps he'll get lucky like the last time he was stranded somewhere with no civilization, and find some bananas or something. His stomach growls.]
Hopefully there is something around here...
III. Pre-Dramatics
[Rui finds the perfect space to put on a show. It just needs a little tweaking. Sure, there's no way to get the word out about the show, but that won't stop him. How often can you put on a truly prehistoric show? He'll get one of his Pokemon to record it for later. For now, he's making a makeshift props out of leaves, stones, and sticks.]
Yes. I think this'll do~ Now should I make some curtains for showtime?
IV. Dramatics + Optional Interruption
[Rui and Nepeta, the Meowscarada, were putting their all into a play about the first human and pokemon friendship. It was going great until a loud scream came from somewhere off stage, and a large...not a jigglypuff bounded in with puffed cheeks.]
[Perhaps there is! Not too far away from Rui, a little Stufful is dragging a bunch of Nanab berries that it's knocked out of a tree. The berries and pink and sweet-smelling, not unlike bananas, and the tiny Pokemon looks like it's too small to eat all the food. Maybe Rui can get some off the Stufful?
However, when she spots Rui, the Stufful frowns. You going to try anything, bub?]
I. Realization [Giovanni is so done with this world. He was just starting to get the hang of how things are, and he gets sent to the past. He's staring at way too large tree like it is the cause of everything bad in his life.]
Not this again...
II. Acceptance
[Well, if he's here then there's no evil team to appease. He's going to make the best of his time. Which first means surviving. Which means food and shelter.]
Food should be easy enough. Some of these plants look similar enough to the guide book...But shelter will be a bit more difficult. I'll want someplace close enough to a water source, and then, hmmm...How would I make it?
III. Inspiration
[As a stylist, Giovanni is always on the lookout for inspiration. He is not expecting, however, to find inspiration in the form of a persistent Flutter Mane following him around. Which is why he keeps trying to lose the ghost Pokemon.]
I think I have finally lost it.
[He gives no context to whoever he says that to, but the context appears a moment later, as the Flutter Mane floats into view.]
[Look, Cecil's been around the block. This isn't the first time this world has completely changed in the blink of an eye. This isn't even the first time it has changed due to time travel. Time travel isn't even the weirdest thing this place has thrown at him, for all that his own standards for weirdness are particularly high.
Despite all that, witnessing a Flutter Mane stalker almost counts as a new experience. Most impressive! It's enough to make him look up from the plants he's trying to identify, even.]
[Cali had been collecting wood for camp after the Archen used dragon breath on the wood supplies earlier (though it was a nice fire to make food on) as she caught sight of Giovanni out in the wilderness debating.]
Normally I would've recommended a lean-to style of shelter, but given the circumstances, you should probably build a tree shelter instead. A lot of predators are hunting along the ground area, so your safer bet is going to be in the trees during the night.
[Jotaro likes the Pokemon World for the most part but if there's one thing he hates, it's this. Why do they need to be sent to other places and thrown into these situations? The man trudges through the underbrush, looking for anyone he recognises, when he spots the unfamiliar guy staring at... a tree?]
You know something I don't? Or just done with this place too?
