A LESSON IN NATURE'S INDIFFERENCE (or: wrath still has unprocessed issues) | open to all!

The difference between modern wildlife and prehistoric wildlife is smaller here than it might be in other worlds... big stompy creatures are eternal in the land of Pokemon. The biggest contrast lies in the lack of humanity, and by extension lack of easy shelter from the elements and the animal life alike.

These are not things that used to bother Wrath. Sure, he has to be careful about overheating or dehydrating now that he's in a human body (a lesson he re-learned the hard way last summer), but having spent so much time just Existing out in the woods like a wild boy, being here is almost a return to form for him. He already wandered around bushes and creeks barefoot and slept in piles of leaves, so what's different now?

Well.

Turns out it's not so much what's different that winds up getting the better of him, but what's the same.

A loud ROAR rattles the leaves on the vines and sends shivering ripples through the pools of collected moisture between the roots of the trees. And then there's the crashing of underbrush and snapping of branches as huge, pounding footsteps shake the earth. No slow, ripples-in-the-cup-of-water style approach here-- something is both big and running.

Enter Wrath, pursued by Tyrantrum... and holding a large speckled egg.

He hurtles past, his Cubone clinging desperately to his back like a koala.

You, uh.

You'd better run, too.

There have been a lot of ground-shaking footsteps around, since they'd all been shot back in time.

Not usually ones that are going this fast, though. Envy doesn't have time to scramble up a tree like he has been when something big is around, and as he frantically looks from side to side he can't see any close enough, conveniently large bushes to take shelter in either. There's really no time to do much of anything--it's while he's standing there like a deerling in headlights that Wrath explodes into view, followed by the pursuing dinosaur.

YEP. RUNNING IT IS.

As they sprint, Envy IS reaching down to grasp for his Pokeballs on his belt, in hopes of grabbing hold of Chimera's specifically. But that's not as easy as it usually is; with brush like this, keeping all his attention on what's in front of him is more important.

"Wrath!! Did you TAKE that?!"

Wrath at a full sprint is still very fast, even with his new metal limbs-- and he's used to leaping over big roots and hurtling through foliage. If Envy hadn't taken off after him right away, the boy might have just vanished straight into the swampy jungle with the tyrannosaur hot on his heels.

Instead, the tyrannosaur is hot on THEIR heels.

Not even looking back over his shoulder, Wrath's reply is a suspiciously defensive shout of "SHE DIDN'T WANT IT!"

"I think she DOES!"

That's all Envy has the breath or spare attention for at the moment, because not tripping over a root and immediately getting torn to shreds is a much higher priority than snappy comebacks. He's a little less practiced at sprinting through woods--urban parkour has always been more his preference. But that practice is still helping a whole lot, and he's able to keep pace with Wrath well enough.

Unlike a certain other time many years ago, the idea of saving himself and leaving Wrath to whatever his fate might be doesn't even cross his mind.

FINALLY, he manages to fumble Chimera's ball off his belt and chuck it over his shoulder, "Chimera! Chimera go go go!"

It isn't the first time Chimera's been sent out into a Situation, so he doesn't skip too much of a beat as he materializes before the Tyrantrum with a roar of his own. In the seconds it takes him to figure out what's going on? He's still a very solid wall of a pokemon. DINO FIGHT.

DINO FIGHT!

When Chimera comes bursting (seemingly) out of nowhere, the Tyrantrum wheels to a stop, turning sideways and puffing out her spiny throat in a hasty threat display. Not only has this prehistoric Pokemon never seen anything come out of a Pokeball before, she's also never seen a Tyranitar.

The shock is enough to put her on the defensive, because sizing up a potential threat is a higher priority than chasing after a little egg-thief.

Wrath, though, does not immediately stop running. It isn't until he clears some bushes and lands directly in waist-deep sludgy jungle water that he reluctantly has to slow down and wade to solid ground, still clutching the egg with grim determination.

Chimera, for all his tendency to be a big ol' softie, is a trained battler and knows when it's time to be intimidating. A sandstorm begins swirling out of the holes in his sides automatically, and he lets out a low, rumbling growl. After all, if he can be scary enough, that's likely to end the fight just as quickly. He's making it very clear that the little humans behind him are under his protection.

After all, here in the past, it's already become clear that the normal rules of neat, turn based combat and not attacking humans don't apply.

Envy, meanwhile, is keeping an eye on where Wrath's gone; he doesn't want his little brother vanishing into the brush while he's occupied with the battle. Both because of general concern and also because. Hey he's got some questions.

"Chimera, hit it with an Ice Fang, see if that scares it off!"

Here come those big icy teeth, mama Tyrantrum, watch out!

The whirling sand doesn't leave even a scratch on the Tyrantrum's rocky hide, but it does confuse her. This is the jungle, sandstorms aren't a thing here. Rumbling, she narrows her eyes at the other tyrant... and then when those frosty teeth light up in the haze, she decides this isn't worth it.

Whipping around, she lashes her heavy, muscular tail at Chimera (Dragon Tail) to take the brunt of the bite, and then she's fleeing the scene back in the direction she came.

She has hatched, healthy babies to get back to.

Meanwhile, Wrath is awkwardly clambering back onto dry land, his automail arm stuck with the brunt of the work as his organic one cradles the egg. He's huffing and puffing, but even with his face red from all the running and exertion, it's obvious that he's tearing up, too.

The Dragon Tail knocks Chimera back into his ball, so Envy's counting his blessings for the obscuring sandstorm and the Tyrantrum's unfamiliarity with Pokeballs. He doesn't really want to find out what would happen if he got bitten in half during all this time travel business.

But with the battle over, he's turned to jog over to Wrath as soon as he's sure the threat is actually gone, extending a hand down to help haul Wrath up if he still needs it. He doesn't even suggest the other homunculus hand him the egg instead, not after all that.

The brimming tears don't go unnoticed. Any complaints or grousing about getting them both into a life-or-death dinosaur chase over an egg die in his throat.

Now that they're not being chased...'she didn't want it' is something he knows the exact weight of, after all.

"C'mon, she's gone, we can sit down a while before we get back to everyone else. You're not hurt, right?"
