Fair Weather Festival

Who: Everyone
Where: Olivine City
When: May 4th - May 11th
Summary: A week long festival honoring Lugia
Warnings: Mark your threads if necessary
Spring is in full force, and with it comes Olivine’s Fair Weather Festival. The week long festival started some time ago as a way to honor Lugia and ask for it to grant safe passage to travelers, and has grown to the jovial affair we see today. While the whole of Olivine is decorated in colorful bunting, spinning pinwheels, and other festive decorations, the festival is centered mainly around the harbor.
As with most festivals, there are plenty of foods and games. Festival food stalls line the streets with cuisine ranging from the normal to created from a fever dream, and even several of Olivine’s restaurants have limited time festival versions of their menus. When you aren’t looking for new foods to try, you may want to visit some of the games. From tests of skill to feats of luck, there’s a festival game out there for you! Most even allow Pokemon (within reason) to play, as long as their Trainer will pay for them. And of course, should you or your pokemon win there are prizes! Small trinkets and various plushies tend to be the main prizes, but some games have other little trinkets to offer as well.
There’s also several vendors boasting their handcrafted festival wares! Some common items that can be found (with each vendor’s take) are: safe travel charms based off of Silver Wings, pinwheels, bells, windchimes, and kites. Of course, there are other items that can be found, like jewelry, keychains, accessories, and woodcarvings (themed or not) can also be found in some of these stalls. There’s apparently even a Pokeball Seal stall somewhere in town this week!
There is also a small stage with some local talents performing their music over the week for folks to listen and dance to. And a bunch of folks will be flying their kites a bit away from the action of the harbor.
While this festival has become more lighthearted over the years, not everything is festival food and dancing. There is an organization dedicated to helping wild Pokemon who are working with the festival organizers in order to drum up some volunteers to help clean up the beach and heal some of the sick wild Pokemon living nearby. They’ve set up several tents on the beach, decorated in the festival theme, for volunteers to work out of. Most of the stalls have a little sign urging people to volunteer, as well as several members looking for volunteers out in the festival themselves. “We can’t ask Lugia for help without being willing to help others out in return,” Is their main point of persuasion.
On the Friday of the festival, right when most people are free of work and the festival is starting to ramp upward to its most crowded yet, something of particular note happens! As the sun begins to set and bathes everything in red and orange hues, a blur of a large white Pokemon comes soaring across the sky, tossing sea spray into the air and making bunting flap furiously.
It's gone as quickly as it came, even as people start to react, gasping and yelling.
Some curmudgeons are quick to insist that it can't have been Lugia - it was too small! Or shaped wrong! Must have been a... very very large Togekiss or something! And anyway, if it were Lugia, wouldn't the Legendary have stopped to acknowledge the festival somehow? Still, even they're hard-pressed not to admit that the huge Pokemon's passing left behind a scent of sea breeze and a feeling of warm air, as if L - sorry, the mysterious unidentified Pokemon - were intending to bless everyone with the fair weather that the festival is named for.
In its wake, festival-goers are just a little bit more enthusiastic and open, many excitedly chattering with strangers (now new friends) about the experience and going on to try out festival activities together.

Dolly Mancer | OC | OTA
The Fair Weather Festival was something that caught Dolly's attention on the PokeGear and figured it'd should be a nice way to meet others. Well, there was that and hoping to see Jack again after what happened back in March to see how he's holding up. The first thing Dolly was greeted to was the salt air breeze of Olivine City as she disembarks the UBird she booked for the trip, Curly bouncing ahead of Dolly while she pulled along the wheeled cooler where Babylon and Avalon are inside of.
Turns out, Alolan Vulpixes are heat sensitive little fluff balls and since they won't go for the Pokeballs like at all...Dolly had to get creative.
So you may encounter Dolly walking along with a wheeled cooler with Curly the Fidough ride on top of it, checking out the stalls and activities available. Maybe it's the curiosity of what's in the cooler or perhaps, you simply just bump into Dolly. Regardless of which...it's caught Dolly's attention, oops.
B. Time to Breathe and Time to Live~ (Shopping and Games)
It's been a few days since Dolly arrived for the festival, so far she's been very much enjoying the atmosphere there and since the Vulpixlings have been very well behaved, a nice treat is in order. Especially since both Babs and Ava have pretty much inadvertently turned the cooler into a natural AC unit.
If you're at the shopping area, you may spot Dolly looking over the bells, keychains, accessories, and the woodcarvings with her Pokemon, waffling on which ones to get. Though and if you have a sharp eye, you may notice that Dolly did purchase a kite that's shaped like a Butterfree.
Next stop after the shopping is the games area, Dolly picking the ones that allow Pokemon to play within reason, giving Babylon and Avalon some time to stretch their legs a little bit. Though, here comes the beast of it all...picking the game to let the Vulpixlings play in. So far, there's a marksmanship game for Pokemon to practice their aim with projectile moves and then there's the little Pokemon Maze that looks pretty adorable. Decisions, decisions, perhaps you may want to join in with Dolly in making a choice?
C. It's a Dream, It's Out of Reach~ (Kite Flying)
Butterfree in the sky~ I can fly twice as high~! Taking advantage of the option for flying a kite, Dolly and her Pokemon are off to fly that new Butterfree shaped kite she got. It's been a while since Dolly last flew a kite, she'd forgotten how relaxing it was as she checked out the others up above. There were some that Dolly recognized like a Dragonair or a Magikarp kite, but then, there were others that were completely new. What was that weird green dragon kite supposed to be?
Dolly goes to back up a bit more and more and...oops....
"Oh dear, I'm sorry, you alright? I didn't mean to back into you.."
D. When the Night Comes with the Action~ (Volunteering and Friday's Mysterious Pokemon Sighting)
Interesting...very interesting, that was a new one for Dolly to experience with a festival, volunteering to help local wild Pokemon. Dolly wasn't going to decline that at all, she was still very curious about the creatures here in this world, it could be a good learning experience. You may find Dolly working at one of the tents for healing sick or injured wild Pokemon.
Towards the end of the day with a good amount of volunteer hours put in, Dolly is free to enjoy Friday night and....what in the Stellar Sea was that white thing flying over head?
"That's supposed to be normal...right?" Dolly looks over to whoever is nearby her to ask, her Pokemon still watching the mysterious sight above.

Calliope Macabre | OC | OTA
April was very much a recovery month for Cali as well as help Rui clean up after attempting to create the ultimate performance out in the wilderness. March certainly was something else, that was something Cali couldn't deny so easily. Upside, it meant getting to stay a bit longer in Olivine Town and IT WAS WORTH IT.
Everything looked like magic to the neon Lisa Frank doctor as she checks out the festival that's been set up. Sure, Cali wasn't exactly sure what a Lugia was, but goodness, whatever Lugia was, they brought about a really neat festival big time. Sweet Sixteen could only huff at this as he follows Cali along with Alfinse and Chantilly getting ahead of the old apple dragon.
"Whiskey!" Oh dear...Sweets is using that weird call again for Cali's attention as she goes to pick him up.
....is this normal? Cali was still a bit stumped by it all...
B. There's a Fire Within my Soul~ (Volunteering/CW for injured Pokemon)
Moment Cali learned there was volunteering involved of the medical kind, it wasn't too hard to guess what she did shortly after. At this point, it wouldn't be much of a surprise, medical volunteer work is almost like something that's been hard programmed into Cali's instincts.
You may see Cali running about the tents delivering medical supplies for those running short or working at one tent helping out with a wild Pokemon they brought in needing attention. If you happen upon Cali doing supplies run, you may notice that she's recruited her own Pokemon in helping with with carrying boxes, much to Sweet Sixteen's disgruntled dismay. Should you be at the tent, however, you may want to join in with Cali in helping with an injured Marill.
Poor Marill must have had a rough encounter with Cramorant beforehand...
C. Mamma Mia, Does it Show Again? (Gaming)
Break time comes and goodness, Alfinse is eager to get some treats after that hard volunteering he's been doing. Cali couldn't help but giggle a bit as Alfinse eyes the food stalls eagerly and goodness, he couldn't make up his mind on which one to go to first. So many choices...so many choices a small Buizel to pick from. What to choose...
Something shiny and red catches Alfinse's attention, it had a candied apple like shine to it as his stomach rumbles...
In one second, not even, Alfinse was off like a bullet towards the shiny red thing, Cali with her other two Pokemon having to run after. It was definitely a good work out, that was for sure. Soon, Cali would find herself at the games stalls with Alfinse heading towards the pop a balloon stand...
Alfinse...no...don't attempt to eat the balloon...
D. And I can Hear a Bell Ring~ (Shopping and Mysterious Pokemon Sighting)
After a week of volunteering and chasing after her own Pokemon, Cali goes to enjoy some shopping with her Pokemon, checking out accessories to dress them up with. There are some PokeBall Seals in a bag for Cali to dress up some PokeBalls with that she's pretty thrilled about. A part of Cali did wonder if she could do a decoden PokeBall, that would be a lot of fun to try out someday...someday soon...
For now, if you walk into Cali, you may see her picking out bells and waffling a bit on seeing which one looks adorable on her Pokemon. Maybe you could help her choose between the floral or the starry bells?
However, if you catch her towards the tail end, you may notice Cali as well as her Pokemon looking out towards the sea. Just...what is that massive Pokemon that came out of the water? Surely it couldn't be...
"Was that Lugia?" Cali asks finally after a moment of silence to whoever is near her at this moment.

B.
The Azumarill is doing her best to provide a distraction for the poor Marill, singing gently to it and holding its paw if it's amenable to it.
Min, meanwhile, is fetching some potions and bandages so Cali can keep up treatment uninterrupted.
no subject
The Marill looks up at Killer Queen with wide eyes, getting to see what the little water mouse Pokemon will evolve into in the future. The little guy really did have a bit of a time as he got help from not only Cali, but Min-Gi too. From the gathering of potions and bandages, the Marill will make a full recovery as it rests a bit.
"Thank you Min-Gi, that helped a lot. How've you been? It's been a while since we last chatted." Cali finally catches a break to chat with Min-Gi as she smiles merrily behind her mask.
no subject
With everything now under control, Min-Gi smiles. "That's okay. Killer Queen seemed pretty worried."
He would have wanted the chance to catch up with Cali regardless, but probably would have saved it until she looked less busy if not for Killer Queen's insistence.
"I've been okay. We're hoping for a big Chicken Choice Judy tour later this year. How about you? What have you been up to?"
no subject
"I've been doing alright, Rui and I have been traveling together since October. We're currently planning on going out to Kanto after the festival, it's going to be super mega awesome and I'm looking forwards to it."
Cali is pretty bubbly as she gives the news, vibrating a bit with excitement with the upcoming travel that's to come for it. Sweet Sixteen just gives a huffy little grump in the background as if to go 'kids..'
"Oh man though, I'm excited to see your tour soon, I'm hoping things will be slow enough to see a concert."
no subject
"That's great! You should come visit us in Vermilion if you get the chance. I could show you around."
There are plenty of other exciting places in Kanto, but he's biased. Min loves the city he's adopted as his home. Of course he's going to push for a Vermilion trip above all else.
Of course, touring is also exciting, but will probably take a little longer before they're ready to finalize what they're doing there.
"I'll let you know when we have our final dates," he tells her. "I can get you tickets if you want them."
no subject
"Oh man I've been wanting to see Vermilion again, it looked really neat last time and I think Rui would enjoy that one too."
Cali perks up at the suggestion, sure her first visit was completely by accident, but she did end up scoring a fun workout outfit during it. She is fully onboard with a Vermillion City trip, there's no way of talking Cali out of it now.
If Cali still had her tail, that thing would be full on wagging upon hearing the offer.
"I'd love that big time and I think Rui would too, he's been so busy with his own productions that I think getting Rui to see a concert would be awesome for him."
no subject
Not that he's biased or anything...
"We'd love to hang out with you guys while you're there. It'd do us all good to take some time out from working by the sounds of it."
Min is definitely already planning a tour in his head. Hopefully Ryan gets the chance to refine it before they visit and make sure they prioritize the fun stuff.
no subject
It's definitely not bias at all as Cali smiles merrily behind her mask.
Cali thinks for a moment before remembering something she saw on her PokeGear not too long ago and was pretty interested. She gets the Gear out to get up the really super amazing summer treat up.
"You know, would you be up to trying out vodka soaked gummy Teddiursa this summer? It looked like a lot of fun to make and they're supposed to get really big after soaking in the alcohol."
no subject
"There are a lot of cool Pokémon out when the weather's that nice, and there are some super classy cafés by the port," Min tells her. "They like to catch the cruise crowd before the ships set out."
Though if Cali wants fun boozy options...
"We can try vodka gummies. Ryan and I play at a few bars that have some fun cocktails options too, if you wanted to check some of them out."
no subject
Then again...she still views the Team Rocket fiasco from last year as a really fun memory that scored her a nice new workout outfit.
"Dude that sounds like a fun idea, I think Sweets would love the cafe, I'd just have to fix him up a basket to lay in for his sunning time." Cali perks up at that cruise part. "Sweet, I wonder if we'll see a Turtwig? I was talking to Quatre about them back in February during the snow storm."
Sweet Sixteen lifts his head a bit from his spot as he briefly huffs out that weird new sound that vaguely sounds like, "Whiskey.."
"Sweets, they don't let Pokemon have whiskey silly. I would love to check out the bars big time, what was your favorite cocktail from there?"
no subject
He opts not the mention the turtle Pokémon they do have since the Squirtle are a whole other can of worms.
"Sometimes some of the Applin from Route 6 make their way into the city."
Whiskey is not a request he expects to hear even from Sweet Sixteen. Sometimes some of their more mischievous Pokémon will try and beg for more interesting drinks, but he's never been under the impression that's out of any actual desire for them. He. Opts to ignore that. And maybe keep a closer eye on him if he's out when they do visit bars.
"I normally let Ryan choose. He has more fun picking out cocktails than I do, but I like the Snow Cloak from Gotta Drink 'Em All's Eeveelution specials," he tells her after taking a moment to think it through. "They vary what they have on offer, but these are so popular they're on the permanent menu. Chlorophyll is kind of grody, but I bet you'd love the one they based off Sylveon. It's called Cute Charm and it's crazy sweet."
no subject
"I have a soft spot for Applin, they make me think of Sweets here when he was still an Applin."
Albeit a very old Applin, but that's besides the point. Thankfully, Cali has no clue about the Squirtles, though, chances are, she'd adore the little criminals big time without realizing the criminals part.
Though, Cali's eyes brighten big time as Min-Gi explains about the bars and Sweet Sixteen is clearly paying very close attention to the bars...he needs to be monitored for the bars big time. No whiskey for the old apple pie dragon...
"Oh man the Eeveelutions cocktails sound amazing! I'm definitely game for trying the Cute Charm, I love sweet cocktails, they're so good." Yep, she's sold on this one as Cali is up for getting the Cute Charm. "What's the Snow Cloak like?"
no subject
"Snow Cloak's pretty sweet, but there's soda water to cut it a bit and the peppermint schnapps leave your month feeling minty. It's different, but I like it. If I feel like something more traditional but still fun, I like the Inner Focus which is basically just a citrusy bourbon and coke."
no subject
"Oh man that's a classic combination for the Inner Focus, back home we had that as well a pineapple rum and coke. I definitely would love to try out the Snow Cloak too, that one sounds incredibly refreshing to have."
no subject
Ryan has definitely made that error, and has even managed to drag Min into his poor decision-making a time or two.
no subject
Cali, thankfully, has a two drinks limit, three if it's a special occasion, but that's about it. Sweet Sixteen though, he's definitely cooking up some ideas in order to get the forbidden alcohol.
Isabela Madrigal | Encanto (OTA)
(With how busy she has been for the last several months, Isabela is in need of some free time away from all the business planing and gym battle learning for once. So when she heard about the Fair Weather Festival, she got very interested and decided to visit there right away.
Once arrived, she takes the moment to take in the salty air breeze as Carmen (now a Roserade), Amarantha (now a Meowscarada), Camilo the Maractus, Snowball the Spheal, and Olive the Dolliv came out of their PokéBalls to stretch their limbs and have some fun. Say hello to them if you happen to be arriving at the festival too.)
Shopping, Foods and Games
(As soon as her Pokémon got up and running, Isabela takes them to the shopping and games areas to see what is available and try to figure which to go first. She isn’t going to go on a careless shopping spree if she can help it, but knowing most of her Pokémon and their desire to find nice stuff, she suspects that it might happen at a moment’s notice.
Then Camilo spots a game booth with plushies for prizes and he proceeds to yank on Isabela’s wrist in an attempt to get to her to said booth so they can play for a plushie.)
Hey, what’s going on right now, Camilo? What’s with the rush over a plushie?
(Camilo is huffing in dismay, seeing how slightly annoyed his Trainer is currently with his nagging. Isabela doesn’t really want to hurt her Maractus’ feelings but there is so much to do that she wants to manage their time wisely to her best ability. Carmen does her best to gently remind him to not rush things at the festival while Amarantha goes on to show off one of her new moves, Flower Trick, to wow the other festival goers for fun.
Snowball, well, he’s too busy staring at the food booths at the moment.)
Volunteer Work (cw: Pokémon illnesses and injuries)
(Isabela is no stranger to helping out: after all, she has spent almost her entire life using her Gift to the town’s well-being and she did her part in ferrying medical supplies during the ill Snorunts event, so she didn’t waste time in going out of her way to help with any volunteer work. As soon as she saw the volunteering section of the festival, she immediately goes right now.
Isa may not have her mother’s healing food making power but she sure can help in doing first aid and beach clean ups. You can see her either administering medicines to sick wild Pokémon, wrapping bandages to any injured Pokémon or picking up trash on the beaches. Her Pokémon are also there to assist her in any way they can regardless of the current task.)
Shopping, Food and Games
You too, huh?
[He stoops so he can detach the Pokémon attached to his legs, but it only lasts a fraction of a second before they're back to it. He sighs, closing his eyes as he tries to explain the odds of them scoring big yet again.]
You know these games are rigged, right? Even if you do everything right you might not win anything.
no subject
Oh Min-Gi! Hi. Oh yes, I’m also in this dilemma too. Camilo, please: there is no need to pout so much today.
(Camilo grumpily nods in response, his head hung low in sadness. Isabela really needs to sort this one eventually before he starts to throw a fit in public.)
Wait a minute, the games tend to get rigged all the time? Uh oh, that sounds horrible. I honestly wasn’t expecting to hear about this until but thank you for the head up.
Though I have a question: how am I supposed to tell Camilo that many of the games here are like this? He really wants a plushie from the booths very badly today.
Rose-Rade. Roserade, Rade.
no subject
It's okay to still let him play a little, but by the time you get to the big ticket items you're probably better off just buying a plushie.
[Ry yells in protest. Buying a plush is just not as fun.]
I know, I know...
no subject
(Carmen nods in agreement with her Trainer, also adding in that she is more than willing to let her (Isabela) to buy them souvenirs, thus sparing her so much grief from Camilo’s whinnying. Said Maractus is still being very persistent though.)
Rose-Rade, Roserade. Rose.
Wait a minute, Carmen. Are you suggesting that we could play a few games for his sake before he starts throwing another tantrum again and then we can just get the plushies on the market stalls?
Roserade, Rose. Rade.
no subject
[And judging from the yelling of the pair of them they think it's very unfair that Min-Gi won't let them.]
If you were happy with the small prizes we wouldn't have a problem. Playing for fun and then letting me buy you a plushie would make way more sense if you're that set on something bigger.
