Video

[This time when Jimmy pops on the Network, he's looking thrilled. He's in his living room. The TV can be heard in the background. There's a scattering of Pokemon about, but Jimmy's only interested in showing off one thing.]

Ayyyy, Krieg! Look who's been busy, big guy!

[The 'gear shifts to show Jimmy's Blaziken...and a pair of eggs tucked between her feet. Those hadn't been there, yesterday. In fact, those have never ever been here before. Jimmy had to take a few minutes to even figure out what had happened.]

We're gonna be grandpas!

I ain't never had eggs before!

[Which is why all of Pokeworld gets to hear about it.]

[Krieg's got the device right up against his face when he flicks the video on to respond, because clearly that's the best way to get a good look at those eggs. ~~Even though it's actually not~~]

Two tiny chicken eggs!

[While he may have no interest in the subject of "reproduction" and all that it entails, he does still possess some knowledge of the Facts of Life - a left-over from his distant, mostly forgotten past.]

That was fast!

[Well, not really...it took several meet-ups over the course of a few months, but with his tenuous-at-best grasp on the passing of time, to Krieg it seems like the two Blazikens got super busy, super quick.]

A perfect pair! We gotta celebrate!

And I guess so...I dunno how long it takes for Pokemon, but I didn't realize Annie and Murder Chicken were going steady!

Mnahahahaha! Yes yes yes yes! Soon, yeah?

[Murder Chicken, on hearing Jimmy's voice from the 'Gear, chooses this moment to unceremoniously shove in next to Krieg. The Blaziken would undoubtedly push a smaller person entirely aside, but all he accomplishes by crashing into his trainer is to crowd his personal space. Not that Krieg cares - he just laughs again and angles the device so that MC can get a better view of the screen.]

Look at your eggs!

Yeah! I gotta get us some cigars!

[Jimmy tries to angle his gear to give M.C - and Krieg - a good look at the eggs.]

Be proud, you two! You're gonna be parents!

[Murder Chicken is glad to see the eggs, but he's even more glad to see Annie. He squawks a bright, cheerful "Hello!" at the love of his life over the network, a mixture of pride and joy practically radiating outward from his whole form.

Krieg, meanwhile, laughs again, both at his chicken buddy's good cheer and at Jimmy's remark about proud parents.]

It's gonna be a pair of super badass baby chickens! Wanna go see?

[That question was addressed to MC, who turns shining eyes to his trainer and squawks a very definite affirmative. The sooner the better!]

Come on over! You guys know where it is!

And I know Annie'd like to see M.C!

[MC squawks in excitement and agreement - he's definitely eager to see Annie again, as well their eggs - while Krieg's laughter quiets down to a prolonged giggle before he speaks again, his voice a rumbling croon.]

Mngh! See you sooooon!

[And it is soon, too - as soon as Krieg shuts off the communication feed, he's on his feet with Murder Chicken at his heels. It's less than an hour before Jimmy might hear the telltale pounding of heavy feet on his front porch, just prior to the pounding of a heavy fist against his front door.]

Knock knock! It's the Pyscho Express and the incredible fearsome Murder Chicken!!

Hey Big Guy!

[Jimmy flings open the door, a cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth. He's in a sweater and jeans, and he's got the heat cranked up in the house. The usual assortment of Pokemon are scattered about the house, but Annie and the eggs are right in the living room.]

[Annie squawks a greeting from behind Jimmy.]

Come on in! Get outta the cold!

Hey Jim Dear!

[Krieg is only too happy to comply with Jimmy's invitation to enter. He has very grudgingly begun to wear a shirt and a sweater outdoors (the shirt is pale blue and the sweater is green, and neither particularly compliment the other, or Krieg's orange pants). He prefers wearing more clothes and going out to staying inside the tiny Ecruteak Inn, though, so he's been making the best of it.

Once over the threshold, MC very politely greets Jimmy before making a beeline to Annie's side, where he immediately begins to fuss proudly over both her and their eggs.]

Staying warm?

Trying to! Not that it's too hard...

[He's got plenty of fire pokemon to bundle up with.]

Hey, I got a pot of cocoa on for us! [Since booze is a big no, Jimmy figures hot cocoa is a perfectly acceptable substitute.]

[Annie simply preens and fluffs over the eggs with a chirped 'blaze', moving a bit to the side to let Murder Chicken curl up with them, as well.]

[Krieg's glad to hear it! Because:]

Cold sucks!

[Murder Chicken immediately accepts Annie's invitation, folding up his long limbs into a compact little shape ideal for snuggling.

Krieg, meanwhile, ambles a little closer to Annie and MC and their eggs, because he wants to see, too! But he doesn't get too close, because the two Blazikens looks super cozy and he doesn't want to intrude.]

Chocolate's better, best when hot!

[There are so many amazing foods in such plentiful quantities here, Krieg is still a little in awe of it all. Not that he'd ever turn his nose up at a well-seasoned skag chew - especially since he hasn't had one in months - but the variety and options available here are sometimes overwhelming. It's nice to know someone who's more familiar with the variety.]

Damn right it does. Hate the cold. We always used to make sure we were down in the tropics, when winter came. One time though, we got stuck up north. It was so shitty and so freezing...

[Jimmy shivers in the memory.]

We had uh...one of our people, Ma Petite, she was tiny. Like....

[Jimmy crouches down and holds his hand around his kneed.]

Smallest woman in the world. She...she was always so cold. I killed a rabbit for dinner one night, and I made her a kinda hooded cape out of the skin. Left the head on and everything, it was the funniest thing, seeing her run around in it...

[He listens to Jimmy talk as he looks over the eggs nestled between their proud parents, then blinks and looks over at him when he starts to talk about one of his people. He's especially interested when he indicates Ma Petite's height. Since arriving in Johto, Krieg has noticed what he considers a surprising lack of...well…variety...among the people here. Pandora was full of midgets and giants, men and women living with the after-effects of Dahl's corporate greed or Hyperion's massively unethical human experimentation. Adjusting to living in a place like Johto where everyone is more or less…homogenous...had been an interesting experience.

Given the context, he figures that a rabbit is a small animal of some kind, but even though the word is sort of familiar, he can't actually picture what Jimmy's talking about.]

What's a rabbit?

Uh...kinda like a buneary or a bunnelby. They're little, they've got long ears and big back feet. They got real soft fur, and they ain't bad eating.

[Even if it had gotten a little tiring, that winter, eating it all the time.]

[If Jimmy knew Krieg's thoughts, he'd echo the sentiment. He's gone from being the most normal looking guy in a freak show to the weirdest dude in a whole region.

[ Walter's taking a break at Azalea Town right now. He's seated somewhere with low, soft lighting and in the background there's gentle, quiet jazz playing. He's got a cup of coffee in front of him and a round Rowlet is bobbing it's head on his shoulder, in beat to the music. ]

It is good you found the eggs. I didn't realise until it was too late. [ Before they hatched and the parent bred again... ]

Annie was practically showing'em off to me when I came downstairs! She's pretty proud!

Ha, surprise Pokemon? I hearda that! Always figured it'd happen with my Pyroars...

You heard about that? [ He doesn't remember telling Jimmy about it? Or maybe Envy mentioned it to him. Althought if that was the case, Jimmy would presumably be threatening him over Henry right now. ]

Darkness was proud. When he introduced me to his hatched children. [ There's nothing quite like having your Honchkrow summon a murder of Murkrows for the first time... ]

Oh yeah, I've had buddies who wake up and suddenly they got two, three new Pokemon they never seen before! Never happened to me, though.

[Despite his number of Pokemon, and how many could conceivably breed together. He's only aware of the phenomena being a possibility.]

Ha, he's been busy too, huh?

Yes. He had eleven children before he decided to let me know. [ He doesn't know if it was in one clutch of eggs or more. Darkness and Lyra had been an item for several months, so they probably had time to reproduce as many times as they wanted to. He shook his head. ]

The trainer who owned the mother was not happy.

Holy shit, Walter! That's a lot of Pokemon!

I don't really blame the mom's trainer...

Thankfully Darkness can summon them and keep them in line. And I made it clear I would accept responsibility. [ As much as he could, since it had turned out there was a grudge to be held against him by Lyra's trainer and he didn't have a residence yet. ]

I don't think they had them all at once. We just found out about them when there were so many.

Hey, that's good on you! That's the honorable thing to do, stepping up and taking responsibility!

Damn! Give Darkness a cigar or five!

Goodness! Congratulations! Will you be...keeping them both?

[He isn't at all sure he approves of this apparent practice of selling Pokemon eggs off, but it seems to be a very common practice...]

I was thinking I'd keep one, and the dad's Trainer'll get the other! Kinda seems right, y'know?

I mean, we ain't breeders or anything, our Blazikens just fell for each other.

Ah, that seems fair! They can both stay with their family that way.

I am meant to be a breeder myself, but I have never done any of it. It does not seem right to sell off their children like that...

Exactly!

I dunno if I could do it. I mean, I know plenty of Pokemon are okay with it, it's how it works, but...

I'm glad I ain't a breeder.

[Says the man who's never caught himself a single Pokemon, but adopted a plethora of 'mons who's trainers had left this world.]

Mmmm. [He nods.] I cannot say I would enjoy being a Trainer either, to be honest. Some of my Pokemon enjoy battling, so I train them, but it's hard to imagine that all of them do.

It has been much easier since settling in one place. I suppose Pokemon battles are one of the few ways to win an income, for travelers.

The ones that don't make it pretty clear if they're not into it. I battle with mine that like it - and some of'em love it! - and just don't make the rest do any battling.

But it's a lot of fun, and it always feels really great to win a battle with my team. 'Cause we were all in it together.

I have trained many fighters before, back home. It's similar - but that was not for sport.

[He's contemplative for a moment.]

To tell the truth, I think I might enjoy this more if I still had my magic. I'm not used to sparring without it. [It's hard to say he takes pleasure, really, in fighting, but he likes training others just fine.]

Honestly I'd rather be doing it for sport. Play fighting's better'n real fighting.

Oh yeah? We don't got that in my world...

I agree.

Humans in my world do not commonly have magic, but it is possible. More often than they think. I believe there are some who can practice it and simply never realize.

Seems like every place is different, huh? Kinda cool, that we get to hear all about it. Most folks don't ever.

I wonder if anyone has ever tried to write it all down? It wouldn't help us much here, but I think it would be fun to learn about everyone's homes.

I dunno, sounds like something somebody might have done. I think there was somebody here a while ago, who was taking notes about all that stuff...

Gone now, though.

[He smiles, a touch sadly.]

Hey, are those Murder Chicken eggs?

[Logically yes, of course they are, Jean, it's not like Krieg has ten thousand Blazikens wandering around and making eggs for him.]

That's really cool! Those babies are going to be powerful!

They sure are! Apparently he and my Annie have been going steady for a bit now!

Is Annie a badass like Murder Chicken?

[With a name like that, Jean kind of assumes she would be.]

You bet she is! She's at max levels!

Nice! I'm still working at getting mine to max.

It takes a hell of a long time! I ain't Annie's first trainer, so I can't take the credit.

Really? Who'd she come from before?

Oh, uh, a long time ago there was a girl here...just a kid. She was like my little sister, we shared a house and everything. Annie was hers.

'Annie' ain't even her whole name but I dunno how to pronounce it and it starts with 'An'. Annie don't seem to mind.

Oh.

[Good job, Jean, stumbling onto the sensitive topic right away.]

It's a good thing you're here to take care of Annie for her then, isn't it?

Yeah, it's kinda what I do, I guess? I mean, it wasn't on purpose, but I kinda got a Home For Orphan Pokemon. All mine but my starter were somebody else's, first.

Really? That's a really great idea!

Ha, well, it wasn't really my idea.

I just...knew a lot of people who left and left me their Pokemon. Like all their Pokemon!

Bu it means I'm never alone, and that's pretty cool.
