5th Match // [video] Ecruteak

[The video feed switches on, focused on a piece of paper containing a simple line drawing of, presumably, a Grimer. There really isn't much else around that looks like one of those little guys.

Krieg is out of view behind the camera, for once, as the feed remains focused on his drawing. As usual, he just has a simple question for anyone who may be watching, and that question is this:]

Where do the slag stacks live?

That is... a grimer, isn't it?

[You know, that looks about as well artistically as he was expecting of Krieg, but it doesn't look like it was drawn in blood or other bodily fluids, so he gets points for that.]

There is supposed to be a regional variant that lives on the Sevii Islands, but those look a little differently. Otherwise, I think they congregate in areas with heavy pollution.

[ Walter looks at the picture carefully, frowning. He'd never seen one of those before. ]

Grimer, yeah.

[The Sevii Islands are too far for practicality right now, but Armin's remark about "heavy pollution" makes him pause. Do the people on this planet even know how to create pollution? Maybe he's just been in Ecruteak for too long.]

Saw some during the Bloody Harvest! They all left with the Skull losers after.

[The worst form of pollution Armin has encountered were those unwashed and unclaimed underpants on the floor of the boy's barracks back in training.]

Mr Pines says industry is a big source of pollution, though you will also find some in and around the bigger cities.

[Why, yes, Ford Pines has been nerding at Armin about his living trash heap pokemon.]

...I don't really recall seeing any of them around Goldenrod though. And I think that's the biggest city around here.

[ Well that explained why he couldn't ask whoever he saw them with. None of Team Skull had used one of these Pokemon on Walter however; only the strange Rattatas and Houndours. ]

Hmm. Did you get it onto your PokeGear? They usually have information on Pokemon species.

[ Behind Walter, someone's noticed the picture Krieg is holding up and pops up beside their trainer to get a good look. It's Assumption! But much bigger and different looking tot he Cubone Krieg probably remembers. ]

I see...a purple blob. Is that what it's supposed to be?

Mnn...Even the big city is squeaky clean.

[At least all the parts of Goldenrod that Krieg has seen, are. Especially in comparison to some of the pits that can be found on Pandora...]

Probably gonna have to travel more.

[Which isn't actually out of the question; the Pandorans have been planning to leave Ecruteak for a while, now, they just...somehow, haven't managed to, yet.]

[In all honesty, Armin is still terrified of Krieg. But Angel had spoken so highly of him and she seems to trust him so deeply, it has made Armin wonder if there is perhaps more to Krieg that meets the (terrified) eye. In any case, this conversation is going pretty well so far.]

Probably.

Unless, perhaps, it would be possible to lure one...

[The Pokedex function on Krieg's 'Gear is the most underutilized application of them all.]

[Thanks for the suggestion, though, Walter - he'll try that now!

...It takes a few minutes, but he finally finds the entry, and after reading the (very sparse) information therein, he turns his attention back to Walter to report that the 'Dex entry doesn't actually provide a location, but he's immediately distracted by Assumption.]

...Did you get a new Skull Hat?

[ The 'New Skull Hat' recognised Krieg and gave a smile and a wave! He didn't know Krieg liked to draw too! Walter smiled fondly at his Pokemon. ]

No. Assumption evolved a few weeks ago. Would you like to show him your fire? [ Assumption nodded and took a step back, so he wouldn't set anything alight. He touched one end of his club to his forehead, setting it on fire. With a twirl, both ends of the bone were ablaze as Assumption spun it around fiercely. Walter watched with undeniable pride on his face. ]

Isn't he divine?

[Look, Cecil, Krieg likes mass quantities of guns and loot just like any other Vault Hunter, but even he knows carrying more than one or two weapons with the same elemental damage type is a pointless waste of precious inventory space.]

They keep killing my garden and poisoning my pond. Besides, their smell is terribly unpleasant, especially in the summer.

[Yeah, okay, he can...kind of see that. Tannis had a garden. A weird garden, but a garden nonetheless. She wouldn't have wanted it all slagged up, either.]

Why do they do that?
