how 2 roflstomp ur rival
Who: Alphonse Elric and Envy
Where: Viridian City
When: July 15
Summary: Envy has a No Good, Very Bad Day
Rating: PG13 for bad words
Log:
The trip hadn't been bad so far. The sudden swarm of Spinda when he'd arrived in Pallet had been...interesting, but not anything that had impeded Alphonse's travels. Overall, it's been pretty nice to be out on the road again. A little lonely, maybe, but he has his Pokemon with him, and it's not like he can't send messages off to his friends when he needs to.
Or snap back at the taunts Envy's been sending, but who's counting?
He finally makes it to Viridian City early in the day, and makes a bee-line straight for the Center. It might not have been too bad of a hike, but he needs a shower and to put his feet up for at least a few hours.

That hadn't happened. To put it mildly.
Envy hasn't fought a gym in years, and none of those were the advanced teams. Most of his training and battling since then has been...well, mostly against the random trainers he finds on the outskirts of the city. And Heather, lately, but that's still only fighting against one person's strategies. So, putting it not so mildly? He'd gotten flattened. At least he hadn't been alone in losing, but that didn't make it much better.
So by the time they've gotten back to the Center and turned their Pokemon in to get healed up, Envy's in a less than stellar mood. Heather's stepped out to go grab some snacks for them to console themselves with, leaving him unsupervised in the Center when he spots Alphonse over by the PC counter.
This is clearly his chance to make up for earlier with a battle that he'll win. His main team might be getting healed, but he's got plenty of other good Pokemon! So he sidles right on over to where Al is standing, a confident smirk on his face that shows no hint of the loss he'd suffered just earlier.
"Finally managed to get to town, did you? I was wondering if you'd gone and gotten lost."

A little tic starts up at the corner of Al's mouth, and he grimaces as he selects the Pokemon to swap out from his PC, all without turning to look at Envy. "I didn't take any longer than you did to get here and you know it."
Not like he hadn't sent an incredibly rude video yesterday mocking Al from the comfort of the air-conditioned Center at the hottest point of the day.
"I only left one day after you two did!"

Which is the story he'll stick to no matter what the real reason was. Either way, it's unimportant.
"But since you were so much more prepared coming out, why don't we have a little battle? I could use an easy warm-up."

Snatching his Pokeballs out of the transfer tray, he shoves a finger right into Envy's face. "Three Pokemon each. And we're doing this out on the route."
He does not want Envy to find a way to make Al foot the bill for property damages.
no subject
"Fine, it'll be even easier for me."
Going to go withdraw three of his backup team from the box RIGHT NOW. It's too bad his best fighters are down for the count right now, but it shouldn't be a problem.

Once Envy catches up, he'll find Al waiting cross-armed off to the side of the main road, just far enough out of town that they shouldn't raise too much of a fuss. A few youngsters are hovering nearby and whispering to each other excitedly, and point at Envy when he appears--Al had warned them about the high-leveled battle, and they decided to stick around and watch rather than clear out entirely.

He's distracted enough picking Pokemon and hurrying out the door that he completely forgets that maybe he should look around for Heather to tell her where he's running off to. BUT NO TIME FOR THAT. He's got a half-brother to stomp.
He keeps his chosen team in their balls for now, not wanting to give anything away, and saunters on over to the opposite end of the road when he spots Al, leaving enough space between them for the battle, and pulls out one of the balls. The audience is just fine with him, he can win with people watching!
"Ready to get started?"
no subject
"Oh, I've been ready."
Al tosses his ball into the air, letting Jemma out to land with a heavy thud on the road. The Garchomp snorts and lifts her head slowly, looking at Envy for a long moment before glancing back to her trainer.
A battle with him? ...about time. Jemma shakes herself all over, then stands braced and ready to fight.
