[The pokegear shows a table, a torracat who doesn’t seem to understand yet that it has gotten a bit too big for this sleeping on the end of the table, paws and tail spilling over the edge. It’s not an accidental video though; it is focused on a chess board, a pale hand setting the pieces with the quick sort of ease that comes from having done this countless of times before.

Armin’s voice is quiet and a little thoughtful as he talks.]

It’s interesting to see how some things seem to be unique to certain worlds [like the titans of their own world] while other things seem to be known in almost all worlds. It makes me wonder what makes some things so common while others are so rare. I was surprised to find this in town, but it even has exactly the same rules as back home.

[It’s not visible on the camera, but Armin smiles as he adds:]

… The pieces look a little different, though.

[Rather than the standard pawns, rooks and knights, all of the chess pieces look like grass pokemon: little oddishes and bellsprouts for pawns, a pair of venusaurs for rooks on the black side stand across two meganiums on white’s side.

Armin sits, finally in view of the camera, his finger coming to rest on the white king (serperior), glancing at the camera as he addresses it.]

Would anyone be interested in a game? I know it’s not a pokemon battle, but it has been a while since I had a chance to play.

_{[Should he be sleeping and getting rest? He should probably be sleeping and getting rest, especially after all of the excitement with Blitz taking Jean's pokegear, right? On top of having a hard time sleeping thanks to being all stuffy, Bertolt should really be resting up.

[At the text, Armin glances over his shoulder at the bedroom door. Should he pop in there? Ah, but it sounds like Jean is finally sleeping. Or at least Armin assumes that he is considering he hasn't heard any whining in quite some time. He'd rather not wake him. Sleep is the best medicine, after all.]

Bertolt? Is something wrong?

_{[And frankly, he is tired of sitting in bed all day. Back home, on the rare chance he'd get sick, his body usually took care of most of it fairly quick. Here? Well, that's a different story.]}

It has been a while since we last played.

[Armin knows Bertolt is sick, but perhaps he is feeling a bit better. He can understand how bored he must be by now.]

_{[It'd be easy enough to call Marcel out of his ball and use him as support, but those paws like to make the floor creak in certain spots. He's not sure if he wants to put that burden on Freja either.]}

Right.

[Armin abandons his gear next to the board, crossing over to the bedroom door and opening it up very carefully. Yep, there is Jean, a mess patch of blond hair and snuffling snores coming from underneath a mountain of blankets. Trying to be as quiet as possible, Armin pads over to Bertolt's bed, trying not to trip over any of the possession scattered across the floor.]

Are you sure you are up for this?

[His voice is barely more than a whisper. He wants to play, but he doesn't want his friend getting sicker.]

_{[Bertolt coughs, already trying to sit up on his own before Armin comes in. Everything still aches and if he's honest, it feels like he had been thrown off a horse more than once with how stiff everything is. He can't remember the last time he had gotten this sick, even when he was living with his family back home.

When Armin speaks, Bertolt nods a little and grabs the corners of the thickest blanket on his bed.]}

Mm. _{[His own voice is hoarse and strained, barely there, but he can still speak as long as he keeps his voice soft.]} I'll be okay.

[Armin ducks in to move close to Bertolt's side.]

Here, you can lean on me. I can take it.

[He probably cannot. Bertolt is taller and heavier than him, but Armin still hates to be thought of as useless on account of how weak his body is. He may have gotten a little more confident, but he still doesn't want people to consider him a burden.]

Don't trip. There's a lot of stuff on the floor.

Are you sure?

_{[He's not doubting Armin - he knows that while he's not as strong as some of the others, he's strong enough to have made it as far as he has.

Using one hand to grip Armin's shoulder, Bertolt carefully and slowly hauls himself out of bed, but he doesn't put his full weight on him either. That'd be asking too much, and should he stumble, he doesn't want to risk taking Armin down with him.]}

I'll, um... I'll try and clean up in here later.

[Armin breathes in deeply --and immediately regrets it; sorry, Bertolt, you are a good guy but pretty sweaty right now-- when Bertolt leans on him, but he is not going to complain.

Armin's eyes flick at the heap of blankets that hides Jean at Bertolt's comment.]

You should wait until Jean can help out. Half this mess is his, after all.

_{[Granted it's not much - his backpack, pants he traded for his pajamas, and a couple shirts, sweaters and some socks, the mess is still partially his. He can navigate his side of the tornado fairly easily, but he has to step carefully over Jean's side of the room lest he step on something he shouldn't, or trip. Once they're at the door he relaxes a little, but he still keeps a grip on Armin's shoulder.]}

[Maybe Armin can ask Juniper to hose Bertolt down.

Armin breathes a little easier when they manages to make it out of the bedroom, easing the door shut behind them again.

He helps Bertolt the rest of the way to the table and into one of the chairs, before putting a bit of distance between them again. Yes, they are friends, but still, Bertolt smells a little ripe and Armin would rather not be the third victim of this cold.]

Do you want some tea before we start?

[Naturally, the evolved Magellan is what catches Anders' attention, but the chess board proves to interest him as well, in the same sort of quiet awe Armin seems to have.]

Would you look at that! [A black Meowth perched in his lap does indeed look, but with narrowed eyes at the Torracat rather than the board.] I can't say I'm any good, but I'll have a match if you need an opponent.

_{[Only if she warms the water up first. And gently. He has seen what some water types can do, and he would very much like to stay in one piece.

Once he settles into the chair, Bertolt pulls the blanket he dragged out with him around himself and buries his nose into it. It's big, soft, and warm, and for a moment he's content to sit like this. It beats staying in bed all day and all night, that's for sure.]}

If it's not too much trouble, please? And some of those pills for my head?

Of course. I'll have a cup too.

[Armin moves into the small kitchen, putting up a kettle to heat some water. While he waits for the water to heat, he puts out two mugs with tea bags, bringing Bertolt a glass of water with some of those wonderful painkillers they have in this world. Far better than the ones in their world for certain. And so cheap.

When the kettle starts whistling, Armin returns to the kitchen to pour out two cups for him and Bertolt, adding some of their dwindling store of honey to Bertolt's cup --best to save that for Bertolt and Jean right now--, before he carries both cups over to the table, setting them down as he settles into the chair across of Bertolt.]

[Magellan is twice the cat he was before. And if he was awake, he'd totally be showing off his new and improved self to Anders. So maybe it is a good thing he's happy to snooze right now.]

It's been so long, I might be a little rusty too.

[But then, what Armin might consider rusty and what other people consider rusty might not be... quite the same thing.]

Would you like to play as black or white?

[He can't help a chuckle. It's probably next to impossible to underestimate his talent for such games.]

Hopefully I'll have a fighting chance, then. White, I think, if that's alright.

_{[Maybe if they ever go home, they can bring this knowledge with them somehow. It'd make things so much easier for most people.

While Armin busies himself, Bertolt pops the pills into his mouth and settles back into the chair in an attempt to make himself comfortable. It'll take time for them to kick in, but he's hoping he can get a jump on the headaches that constantly come and go so he can get a little relief for the rest of the day. His tea on the other hand, he doesn't drink. It's best to let it cool just a little so he doesn't scorch his mouth, but it's not stopping him from picking the cup up and cradling it in his hands to soak up the warmth radiating from it.]}

Thanks. ...I, um... I'm not sure what we'd do without you looking after us.

Oh, that game looks familiar...! One of my friends back home is really good at it. I never really learned, though.

...I think this version looks pretty cute, though.

I'm not surprised the pieces are different. Pokemon are really important to the people here.

I'm sure you would've managed.

[Armin shrugs, a little self-conscious.]

I'm not doing much except making a lot of tea. I'm not really that good at nursing people back to health.

[Reiner used to be real good at it. Very good with the bedside manner too, but Armin doesn't think he needs to bring up Reiner to Bertolt. He's sure he has already thought about how his best friend used to fuss over anyone who caught as much as a cold in their barracks.]

I didn't even know I was sick until I fell off Marcel, though.

_{[Or more like, he refused to acknowledge that he was getting sick. It was a bad habit of his.]}

I haven't had something this bad in a really long time, so I'm... really glad you were there.

_{[Gods only know what might've happened to him if he had been on his own. Taking a careful sip from his cup, he winces a little - still too hot, but he'll have to suck it up. He'll take a blister on his tongue over his throat getting worse.]}

[Honestly, looking back on that, Armin feels like he made the wrong choice. He had already noticed Bertolt looking unusually flushed earlier in the day, but he had chalked it up to the wind. If he had been more like Reiner or Marco, he would've stepped in earlier, made Bertolt stop earlier before he had fallen off Marcel.]

We were lucky we found this cabin so close by.

[And then they broke into it. Like criminals. Whoops. It was for a good cause!]

But really, Eren knows as much about this as I do. Maybe more. His father was a doctor, after all.

[Even if Eren doesn't look like he knows a bunch about this stuff.]

That's right.

Though it doesn't sound like you are very familiar with it. Is this not something you have in your world?
