Video [backdated to Feb 26!]
*The video opens to a shot of a large room, panning around to take in a view of a high ceiling, rows of seats to the sides, and a packed-dirt floor in the middle marked in the familiar pattern of an area used for a pokemon match. In fact... all this looks an awful lot like the inside of a gym, doesn't it? Except it doesn't match any of the gyms found in Kanto or Johto, nor even the glimpse of the Indigo Plateau some might have seen in Sion's video from there... But in any case, after a brief look around the mystery gym, the video finally settles on a shot showing Sion and Ryner, Sion grinning and Ryner looking maybe kind of pleased with himself but not actually wanting to admit it. Sion speaks up first:*
As some of you may already know, I, Sion Astal, and my friend, Ryner Lute, successfully challenged and defeated the Elite Four at Indigo Plateau a few months ago. One of the rewards was authorization to create a gym of our own, in the newly-formed Aurora League, and, well, as you can see...
*he shrugs, gesturing at the room, which probably speaks for itself at this point, really*
This is the Collegiate Gym. It's scheduled to open on the first of next month, barring any unexpected delays. It's located along Route 37, just a bit south of Ecruteak City. I believe there's supposed to be signs going up, but if not, take the path heading west that you'll find before you reach the city. The gym will be open from eight in the morning to seven in the evening daily, and If you want to try your hand at challenging us, you can either schedule a match, or come in any time between three and six in the afternoon any day but Sunday for a match on a first come, first served basis. If you win, you'll receive a Tactician Badge, as well as, well, let's leave the rest of it as a surprise for.
Of course, matches here are a bit different from what you'll find in the Indigo League; rather than pitting your best against a fixed team of ours, both sides will be randomly assigned a team to use. You'll have to choose your final team from that, and come up with a strategy with what you end up with to defeat the team the gym leader is given. Which I can assure you, won't be as simple as choosing based on type advantages.
*that last part is said dryly*
So while you're welcome to give it a try at any time, we'd suggest taking some time to challenge other gyms and learn from their strategies first.
Aside from that, the gym has a number of training halls that can be reserved and used for practice or matches. Most of them are equipped to simulate weather effects, and two can handle terrains as well.
*there's a reason the gym took extra-long to build, after all... In any case, Ryner speaks up next*
We've got a library upstairs, too. Ahh, well, we're still filling it, and new books are always welcome... But it's open to everybody, even if you aren't coming for a challenge. The classrooms, too. We'll be running some classes, once things settle down, but you can reserve them for your own events, if you want.
*aaand then it's back to Sion*
So really, everyone ought to come visit when they get the chance, whether to battle or not. We'll look forward to seeing you!
((Replies may come from both Sion and Ryner!))

video;
This is a pretty big deal here, isn't it? ] Is it the first of its kind?
Re: video;
*he... might admittedly be a tiny bit proud of this, yes, though he's trying not to show it*
video;
That's wonderful. You'll be able to witness firsthand the skill of the talented trainers of this world.
Re: video;
And hopefully have a chance to help teach them a few things, as well.
video;
Yes, of course. Learning is an important part of being a trainer, or so I'm led to believe.
Re: video;
I'd certainly say so. Just memorizing all the types and their strengths and weaknesses can take some time, let alone everything else that goes into one's strategy...
*but he does definitely seem to like the idea of helping other people out, at least?*
video;
That's a task all on its own, I must admit.
Though I do recall hearing that at one point, the types of certain Pokemon shifted a few moons back. If that were to occur once more, it'd take quite the vigilant trainer to remain well versed.
Re: video;
It was certainly some work to relearn what was what, yes. Though hopefully it won't happen again.
video;
May I ask what inspired the name? [ The gyms and their badges have been mostly self-explanatory from her reading. She's curious as to the purpose of theirs. ]
Re: video;
*though as for the other question...*
Well, we had the badge name first, really. We'd wanted to make battles a different sort of challenge from the other gyms. For those, learning the strengths and weaknesses of a single type and preparing to face it usually is plenty, where we wanted to test somewhat more advanced strategies. Hence the system of choosing random teams from a fixed pool for both participants. Aside from the need to come up with a strategy on the fly, all the available pokemon are limited to eight moves each, which were chosen to have multiple possible strategies depending on what you end up with.
So, we called the badge the Tactician Badge, as it tests one's knowledge of strategy and tactics in a pokemon match.
As for the gym, well, we could hardly call it the Ecruteak Gym, but since we wanted to include the library and classrooms, something "school"-themed seemd appropriate.
video; sorry for the delay as usual... botw release + sickness = DISAPPEARS FOR TWO WEEKS
A different challenge is always welcoming. I look forward to hearing of trainers who venture through your halls. Have you any challengers yet?
Man I wish I could play botw... but FEEL BETTER!!!
I suppose you could try to be the first, if you wanted.
*some Fly and the magnet train would make it possible to reach Ecruteak from Celadon in that time, right?*
I underestimated March in general lol
[ She doesn't seem offended by the offer though. ]
No doubt Cecil will want to pay it a visit.
*pats*
*though he is amused, when you put it that way.
I take it you'll come with if he does?
no subject
[ Of course if he wants his privacy, she will grant him that... but she doubts he'd want to travel while leaving her all alone at home. ]
no subject
Does that mean I should consider him lucky? Or the opposite?
*he's teasing*
video;
Rose, his Clefairy, shows no such awkwardness, however, and cheerfully pops up with a hand-written sign.]
Everyone worked really hard!
video;
That hard work really shows. [ She smiles, leaning in a bit. ] I haven't met with you before, have I? My name's Rosa. Just who might you be?
video;
She pulls her sign down quickly to write more - yes she's the one who wrote it - and then lifts it back up.]
I'm Rose! Your name sounds like mine!
video;
I hope that someday we can meet face to face, Rose. I'm certain that you are a delight to be around.
Maybe you could become friends with my Caine. He's a little rough around the edges, but he means well. [ Plus he's a dragon so easy bully material... ]
video;
write write write]
You can come visit the gym! I won't be fighting but I'll be there! Meeting Caine would be good!
video;
That would be nice. Hopefully I can accept your invitation here soon. [ That's something she has to discuss with her partner first after all. ]
text.
[ She actually thinks this is pretty awesome, but the joke route is much easier than asking more about it and commenting on the fine details. It really is interesting how some people have settled in here, but she supposes if she were here as long as Sion or Heather, she might feel the same. ]
Video
Clearly you ought to get to work.
*he'll gladly tease right back, though*

Guess so! Already at four, so the last two are a pretty important decision...
I'd ask for recommendations on how to even it out, but I wouldn't want to give you a head's up. I'm going to come for you. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow or next week, but I'm coming.
[ BECAUSE THE CREAM ALWAYS RISES TO THE TOP. ]

You can have more than six pokemon, you know, just that's the limit of how many you can carry with you at a time.
*Sion has... well, a lot*
And I wouldn't worry about any heads up if I were you; our gym is using a rather different format for battles to make it a bit more of a challenge...
*specifically, using a random team from a fixed roster for both participants*
no subject
You aren't selling it to me you know. At this point I'll never be able to take you on.
Got a cool badge, at least?
no subject
*not that that stopped him from acquiring more than six and just... constantly rotating his roster at every opportunity*
And I'm sure you'll manage eventually. Think of it as something to work towards, perhaps.
*now, taking him on in a non-gym battle, on the other hand....*
We do, actually. Though I don't know if I should spoil the surprise...
sorry! i'm getting over the flu so slooooow up in here.
Up to you if you wanna, just remember someone might blab before you do...
Aww, well hopefully you're feeling better now!
Though of course, you'll have to win against one of us if you want to keep it.
i'm feelin' a-ok pardner! :>
Just messing with you, but yeah. I'm interested in both. Maybe a warm-up battle? Don't think we're ready for any bigger battles yet, though. Eevee's the only one with substantial power and he's just a marshmallow most of the time.
Yay! \o/

With any luck, we're not going anywhere. So you don't have to rush or anything.

Guess I've got the time for now, but it's a bit frustrating knowing I'll have to go back around later, when my team's strong enough...

Haa, this place's really come together well.
