(terribly belated) April 1st, post-battle

[The battle was long, drawn-out, and involved a full week's worth of potions, but by the time it ends Cecil hardly looks tired. If anything, he seems even livelier than he did when the battle started. When he speaks, his words are full of energy.]

That was wonderful! I must admit that the format you chose for your battles surprised me at first, and I'd lying if I said Rosie and the others are not disappointed, but adapting to a limited selection and moveset was a delightful challenge!

If there was a way to temporarily change a Pokémon's level, perhaps trainers could select participants from their own teams intead. Though the movesets could still be unfair...

[He shakes that thought out of his head. Few people spend as much money as he has on TMs, after all.]

Why, thank you. For both the congratulations and the best battle I've had in years.

Different it is indeed, though I've no doubt many trainers will mourn the opportunity to test their strength against a Dark- or Fairy-type team. Or the opportunity to crush their opponents with fully-raised companions, as people often do.

[Which he understands when battling the Elite teams, but against Falkner or Brock at their weakest...]

Later, perhaps? I'd love to see what you've done with the place. How much time did the building's construction take?

So little time, for such a large building? How amazing! I knew the local technology and Pokémon would make a difference, but to think it'd progress so quickly...

[He looks up at the ceiling. Such work would have taken years back home...]

Then again, considering the number of Gyms throughout the land, the local architects must be prepared for that sort of great project.

They carry that risk, yet it seems to not become a problem nearly as often as it should. Battles against, say, Team Rocket tend to cause damage, but I've never seen a Gym needing reconstruction without external, usually legendary factors.

...Perhaps I should walk by Celadon's Gym more often, and keep an eye out for the occasional builder. It'd be interesting to know how often such incidents occur.

Avoiding major damage might even be a point of pride, the proof that you have great control over your Gym and all that happens within.

[Ryner was, naturally, present for the battle. Something something obligation, something something milestone, something something he was admittedly curious whether this would, in fact, work out the way they'd hoped.

That curious part of him is not disappointed.

But he'll just sort of wander over eventually, after everything is finished.]

Ahh, congratulations.

Thank you very much!

[One drawn out fight later, and there's still a spring in his step and not a single hair out of place. Isn't that unfair?]

It's obvious you've both put a lot of work into planning this system. I never felt overly advantaged or disadvantaged, even though the team selection was mostly out of my hands.
tearsofademon: (I'll be content with my share)

[Some people have that kind of energy. If Cecil is one of them, good for him.]

Glad to hear it. Theory's one thing, but I'm glad it worked out like we hoped in practice.

Was this the first trial run, then? I'm glad my challenge proved your theoritical plans right.

[And, you know, glad he won and all.]
