I had heard quite about shiny variations in Pokemon but I didn't realize they could be quite this drastic.
[Cissnei sounds overly amused and as she turns her gear to focus on the newest addition to her team, it's obvious why.
The Riolu that hatched out of the egg she'd received looks nothing like the Pokedex entry. Rather than the normal dark blue coat, it's got a vibrant yellow one. The little pup doesn't seem phased by the fact that he's on camera, sitting cross legged next to Cissnei's backpack just staring calmly at his trainer and the gear.]
Are there any others that have this big of a change between coloration?
[Because honestly? She wants more terribly vibrant Pokemon in her party.]

Blue to yellow? That's a bit more drastic if you ask me. [She grins a bit.] Entertaining but drastic.
Re: Video
Though perhaps one of the more unusual ones I've seen is that shiny ponyta and rapidash, while their bodies are the same color as their ordinary counterparts, the flames that comprise their manes and tails are blueish silver instead.
Video
The shiny variation actually sounds quite lovely. I'd love to see one in person. It may be worth keeping an eye out for.
Re: Video
Oh? I have one, actually, so if you happen to be in the area of Ecruteak, you could certainly stop by and see...
Video
If I ever end up in the Johto region, I'll make a point to stop by. If you're still there when I finally make it over that way, I mean.

[Armin adjust his gear to show her the voltorb leaning against his side. The blue-and-white voltorb.]
They are normally supposed to be red and white.

[Which is... Armin doesn't actually know. That sort of thing, genetics and DNA and all, is not something they are familiar with in the world he is from.]
Re: Video;
So genetics, which is something that is out of my league. I'll have to pay a visit to a library next time I get a chance.

[Obivously they've noticed that brown haired people tend to have kids with brown hair, and everybody gossips when a woman gives birth to a child that doesn't look at all like the father, but what exactly causes that is still unknown.]
Video;
Yes, genetics are what determine the different variations in individuals and then their offspring if they have them. I'm not a scientist so I don't know everything about the subject but it is pretty fascinating.

Guess who [ text]
I've seen a different Riolu with that colouring before.
[ text] OH HELLO THERE
I'm guessing the shiny variations are always the same sorts of colors, then. No real variation there.

No. And some are not as drastic in variation from their standard colouring. Such as Claudia.

Funny how some can be so vibrant in comparison to the normal variations while others are so incredibly subtle you almost can't tell.

[ At his side is none other than Claudia, along with her little pack consisting of Bonfire and Jennifer, Walter's Flareon. ]

May be worth trying to put together a study on. Just for curiosity's sake.
[Got a thing for fire Pokemon do we?]

[When the video comes on, Heather's got her own golden Riolu perched in her lap.]
Shinies can be... pretty intense, yeah.
I have two Murkrows-- one's black. The other is hot magenta.
[Her Riolu peers curiously at the camera now, head tilted just the slightest bit as he watches the other Riolu.]
[SHE DOESN'T BRING THEM INTO STORES ANYMORE.]
[The Riolu in her lap pulls his paw from his mouth (where he'd been sucking on it) and gives a shy wave. He seems like a quiet little guy.]
[Sometimes she feels like she's at the center of a growing Pokemon mafia, okay.
Tseng doesn't respond immediately, staring at the other Riolu before lifting a paw finally in a wave. Hello, shy friend.]
Has yours learned to talk too, or is that just my bad luck?
[... She says, as though she didn't spend at least two afternoons teaching Wren the nastiest swear-words she could think of.]
[The quiet Riolu says nothing, but perks when his greeting is returned. His tail bounces slightly behind him and he pushes himself up a little bit to get a better view.]
