Bubblegum knows how to play, by the way, if you see him and have nothing else to do. Just don't let SID eat the pawns, we're running out of replacements.

I guess if you're THAT confident in your other Pokemon... you think if someone tried to steal them they'd be able to protect themselves?

I mean... a shiny AND an exclusive brand new super rare Pokemon...

Oh yeah, that's true. I mean, stealing them back wouldn't be that much of a problem, but avoiding it would be even better.

I could send my birds to keep an eye on them from above. They're at a high enough level to take care of most threats.

I don't really let my Pokemon wander much.... not that it stops some of them from doing it anyway

The way I figure, they're going to do it sooner or later. At least this way I know when they're gone, why they're gone, and that they've listened to all my safety tips. It's not like I could stop them without being an extreme hypocrite, anyway.

Besides, I kinda suck at chess, and Bubblegum needs better opponents.

It's really interesting how this world works like that, sustaining itself completely around travelers while still keeping the permanent stuff going.

Yeah. It's like those cities on Earth that still have well-defined seasons, where the population grows during the summer and leaves during the winter, except with less regularity. And with a pool of potential Pokémon employees and customers, which might explain why it remains so stable.

Thinking about economics makes my brain overheat but clearly this place has figured out something that works.

This whole 'no waging wars that last decades' things they've got going on helps a lot, I bet. Doesn't explain where those kids on the road get all that post-loss money, but maybe they just work at a Pokémon Center one month or two a year.

I've seen more than one kid go skulking home after getting beaten out on the road.

If I kept giving away most of my allowance by losing pet fights at that age, my parents would have cut off my funds after a week. Not sure enabling them is such a good idea in the long term.

Well, this world is pretty different!

I guess kids can decide whether they wanna go spend it on candy, or go spend it trying to make it big as a Pokemon trainer.

Makes me wonder how many bother to set it aside to pay for college someday. Though those who do make it big as trainers can probably afford whatever education they want later.

Check with the locals first. By their standards, what you consider too long might just be worth a Master's degree. Unless you've got like five dogs, in which case refuse to settle for anything less than the big prize.

It's so fun to be alive to enjoy it, though. The shocked gasps, the uncertain glances, the mild alarm if you address them directly!

You'd never be able to find an unsuspecting dog sitter for your canine army again, though. Fame has its downsides.
