[video / action for around route 36]
[Ford hasn't been around much recently: he's been busy with quite a few new baby Pokemon, continued gym challenges and, now, this unexpected and almost supernaturally-violent storm. Unlike anyone with half a shred of common sense, Ford is outside. He's holding his 'gear up and it shakes as he moves. Raindrops and shakycam make it difficult to make out too much, but there are trees visible behind him along with the back end of the Drampa he's riding. Occasionally the flashes of lightning will illuminate things a little better, but only a little.
One might expect his expression to be disgruntled, or perhaps even afraid. One would be wrong. He looks like he's having the time of his life. He isn't even wearing a hat or a raincoat. His usually-fluffy hair is soaked and so is his brown trenchcoat. When he speaks into the gear he has to shout to be heard over the thunder and the patter of the rain and the roar of the wind.]
Look! Over there!
[He turns the gear. What is he asking you to look at? Hard to tell with how low visibility is. Particularly-interesting tree? Nice cloud? That third of Falkor the Drampa's head that's swimming in and out of frame?]
RAIKOU IS OUT HERE!
[Oh. Sure, grandpa. It's probably just, like, a real big growlithe-- if there's anything out there at all.]

[Video]
And it's said storm that has him inside. Where it's safe. Like a sane person, Ford.
Which would explain the slightly worried, and perhaps scared, look on his face.]
Are you..certain it's wise to be outside? Legendary at the root of this storm or not.
[Video]
Oh, please. It's just a bit of rain.
[Lightning strikes a tree not twenty feet behind him and it goes over with a groan that's almost entirely drowned out by the storm.]
[Video]
[Sure Newt has traveled through worse but that's not the point.]
Are you certain what you're chasing is a legendary?
[Video]
[Video]
[Video]
Son, I've spent most of my life studying things most people don't believe exist. Waiting for something to be certain just means losing valuable time.
[Video]
Video;
[Slightly squeaked, very oh shit oh fuck oh no.]
I really don't think that's a good idea.
Video;
[It's a great idea, Armin, shush!]
Video;
I'm not really sure if you can call this an adventure...
[More like a death wish!]
Video;
Being out in a potentially-supernatural storm in search of a great legendary beast? That screams adventure. I think I played a DDnmD campaign exactly like --
[THUNDERCLAP. Ford's mouth keeps moving but the last half of that sentence is just Gone.]
Video;
Also, what the heck is DDNmD. Must be the line breaking up slightly. That can't even be a word.]
I don't think you'll ever be able to find a legendary pokemon if you get injured out here.
[Or worse,
expelleddead. Actually. How had Ford even managed to survive until this age?]Video;
It's just rain, Armin. I'll be fine, I assure you.
Video;
... I'm not sure you can call this storm just a bit of rain, Mr Pines. It's dangerous to be out in a thunderstorm like this. Lightning could strike any one of those trees.
[Trees don't respond well to being struck by a ton of electricity. Sounds dubious, but true. Armin read it in a book.
Like, okay, they had certainly occasionally trained during weather like this back home, but that was because their commanding officers had had no regard for their lives. Not because it was a bright idea!]
no subject
[It has a couple times now, in fact. And the part of him that remembers being chained up and repeatedly subjected to five hundred volts of electricity isn't exactly happy about that, but the clouds aren't Bill and they don't have it out for him specifically. He's just amped up because he's excited, that's all.]
But I've survived worse! Nothing ventured nothing gained, as they say-- woah!
[A branch nearly smacks him in the mouth. He ducks.]
Falkor, avoid the trees, please!
[The Drampa bugels apologetically.]

[Sometimes risks were just too great, the pay off too little. You couldn't always just throw yourself 100% into a situation and hope for the best.]
Besides, even if you don't get injured, staying out in this weather could leave you sick.
[And, you know, Ford is old. Probably already on death's door, lets be real here. He's like what, at least sixty? Where Armin comes from, that's practically with one foot in the grave.]
[video]
[Cecil should probably not be encouraging this. Cecil doesn't care.]
[video]
I'll bear it in mind!
[...WAIT]
Have you met Entei?
[video]
[A worse storm, but time has softened its memory.]
He enjoyed the meat greatly; I doubt Raikou's tastes are different.
[video]
[Which is his own fault, honestly, why doesn't he. Gosh.]
[video]
[Raikou could just open its jaw for a few seconds and drink a week's worth of water, probably.]
[video]
[He is taking this entirely seriously. If you're going to talk to a literal god you probably want to at least try to go about it the right way.]
This is all supposing I do actually catch up --
[A particularly intense whoosh of wind nearly knocks his glasses off his face. He reaches up to pull them securely back on, smudging the lenses as he does. As if they weren't hard enough to see out of with the rain.]
But I'm certain I will. Falkor is very speedy. You can still see him, right, Falkor?
[There is an affirmative dragony roar from offscreen.]
[video]
[Cecil do not encourage this.]
Do be careful. We might not be at risk of dying, but being hit by electricity is never pleasant.
[Video]
[Ryner's not about to tell you to abandon what you're doing and get to shelter. Raikou himself knows, first-hand even, that Ryner has been out in similar storms before (though not intentionally). But a certain level of awareness and attempted safety can at least be a thing, right?]
[Video]
Of course I will be! I've survived much worse than this.
['Surviving' is probably the goal but like. Sure. Okay.]
[Video]
[experience tells him that being out in storms like that is not fun and one would be better avoiding it, but then again, experience tells him he'd much rather sleep than do anything, and he's aware that's not the best metric, so]
As long as you don't piss Raikou off if you do run into him, then.
[Video]
[I mean granted it went really bad for him that one time but that was one time.]
[video]
While someone like Rakka
who is sanechose to spend the day camped out in her hotel room with her friends, she still wanted to see what the outside world was doing.and what the heckie world.]
Um... maybe you should be careful out there, sir?
[video]
Well actually you could make a pretty strong argument for that]
I'm being just as careful as the situation requires.
[Look. This is careful for him. He could be on foot instead of riding a big soft friend who'll probably be able to get him out from under a tree if it decides to fall on him.]
[video]
Well, actually she could think of like, one reason. But that's it!]
But... that still doesn't mean you should be out there! Think about how dangerous it could be!
[There is literal lightning literally everywhere!]
no subject
I have thought about it and I think the potential to meet a legendary beast is far more important! Imagine how much we could learn from just a short interaction!
no subject
But... what if it... eats you?!
Video
Video
[Blown away, psh. He's a solid boy.]

[After you experience the actual apocalypse, everything seems sort of tame in comparison.]
