[video / action for pewter city pokemon center]
[When the feed turns on, Ford isn't immediately visible. This is because the entirety of the frame is taken up by Roswell the Beheeyem, who has only recently rejoined his team from the box and is very excited to have her official role of camera-mon again. The lights on her hands flash in a rapid pattern (she doesn't need those to hold the Pokégear, not with her psychic powers). Clearly she's very excited about something.
The camera shifts and it becomes apparent what that something is. Six Pokémon eggs are settled comfortably in a chair, wrapped in one of the complementary Pokémon Center blankets. Next to the chair stands Alice the Gothitelle, looking about as proud of himself as he can with his deadpan Gothitelle expression. Ford kneels on the other side, notebook open, apparently making a sketch. Roswell floats over and bops him on the shoulder with one hand as though to say hey, dumbass, you're on camera.]
What-- ah.
[He closes the notebook. He still has marked bags under his eyes from the events of the past weeks but they're fainter than they could be.]
Hello, everyone. As you can see, I once again have eggs on offer. According to their mother-- [Roswell waves.] -- there are four Elgyem and two Gothita, and she and Alice assure me they can tell which is which even if they won't tell me how.
[Apparently this is a point of contention. Alice and Roswell both look very smug about it. Roswell giggles, or at the very least lets out a soft beh-hee-hee-hee that can be read as a giggle.]
I am asking for P1500 for each egg, though I am open to lowering the price for new arrivals. Should anyone like to pick them up in person, I'm planning to stay in Pewter City for a while.

[Anna presses her hand over her mouth, eyes switching left to right as if trying to convince herself that she doesn't need another Pokémon. But the problem is, she wants one.]
Do you think I could buy one of the Gothita eggs from you?
no subject
[Alice turns up the nose he doesn't have.]
And you may, of course. Alice--?
[Alice un-turns his nose and looks at the eggs thoughtfully, making a big show of it apparently entirely for Ford's benefit, before gently patting one of the six near the back of the chair.]

Wonderful! Oh—congratulations, Alice, you must be a very proud mother!
[don't misgender the pokemon anna]

Alice is male.
Gothi!
[Yeah that sure is a very male voice. Kind of scratchy even.]
no subject
[Aaand Anna's face is turning red. Oops.]
I'm so sorry, Alice! I...gosh. That was dumb.
no subject
It's alright. Many Pokémon don't adhere to human gender norms. Consider Primarina, which can be both male and female and in fact skews male despite looking very feminine indeed from a human perspective.
[Roswell, in the background, is still doing the Beheeyem equivalent of wheezing.]
Gothitelle as a species are overwhelmingly female, in fact. Alice is a rarity.

[She shrugs, clearly perplexed.]
Though it's not a very common name in my part of the world. Not as much as, say, Bjorn, or Astrid, or Ilse!
no subject
[She's not a modern girl, she's from fantasy Scandinavia. Duh.]
Alice is the name of a male musician in my time. He and my Alice both have a particular attitude and similar dress sense, so I felt the name was fitting.

Something like that, yes. Though this Alice doesn't sing, or at least he never has in front of me.

[You know, like a nice rich baritone!]

[Hi Ford, Jane is here, and the little Zorua she'd gotten from you is in her arms, curled up and sleeping. They're on the outskirts of Goldenrod, so it's likely there's been training going on and this is a rest time.]
How do you manage to keep track of them when they pop up? I...haven't encountered any egg surprises of my own yet, but the more people talk about it, the more worried I am...
no subject
[Roswell and Alice were a sort of love-at-first-sight situation. Which... yeah, that tracks. A boy covered in ribbons and an alien with glowing hands make a good pair.]
The easiest way to cut down on potential surprises is to keep in mind the gender and egg group of the Pokémon you have with you; if they can't produce eggs, then they won't.
I don't work too hard to head it off, myself.

[He reaches into the bag near the chair and pulls out a book.]
I found the provided breeding guide lacking. Much like the Pokédex, it was a good beginner's guide but didn't have nearly enough in-depth information for my tastes. I've been working from The Ideal Egg for some time now, supplemented with The Expanded Encyclopedia of Pokémon Moves to help double check what will be passed on by each parent. Of course in the case of Roswell and Alice it was more checking after the fact, but my point still stands. You can never cross-reference enough.
no subject
Oh, that sounds perfect! Um, hm, I'm going to have to make note of both of those and check them out...even as someone who's not a breeder, you'd think they'd let you have some kind of information on hand that's useful...
no subject
You would think, yes, but in my experience this universe and its people take a very fast and loose approach to things. New arrivals from other dimensions are simply given a Pokémon, some basic supplies and turned loose.

[Okay, so they've talked about the game she played a little, but, uh. Nobody's actually told him about this yet. In over a year. Wild, huh?]

What sort of psychic ability does an Elgyem have? I have encountered one before, but I did not learn how they apply their powers.
no subject
Having raised one from level five all the way to level one-hundred, I can tell you with confidence Elgyem are excellent as Psychic Types go. They can levitate, teleport, communicate via telepathy, and manipulate objects with telekinesis. Roswell at least was also very strong-willed; the first thing she did once we mastered mental communication was tell me to change the name I had originally given her.
no subject
My Xatu is capable of several of those skills. Can they see the future, or into a person's soul?
no subject
[He kind of wonders why she hasn't, actually, except that she has a habit of being secretive just to annoy him.]
They also have a visual color-based language all their own that has yet to be deciphered by humans, and they are one of the few Pokémon that is almost certainly confirmed to be extraterrestrial in nature.
no subject
I see. And what are the parents like?
[Newt looks amused. Everyone he knows is ending up with eggs as of late.]
Would it be alright if I took on one of the Elgyem eggs? Having another psychic type around would be very helpful considering how many new arrivals we've had as of late. It would make communicating much easier.
[The wizard winces and glances over his right shoulder, starting to reach back then pauses as a purple head appears, opal eyes peering at the 'gear.
Niffler the Sableye.]
Ah, yes, say hello Niffler.
[The Sableye just stares for a moment before she hauls herself up a bit more, reaching out with a clawed hand to wave and mouth the word hi.]
no subject
[The moment Niffler pops up, though, all his attention's on her. Now who's easily-distractable?]
Hello! Aren't you friendly.
no subject
Cornelius has been practicing as well, though I have a feeling he's far more interested in sign language.
[He reaches up to gently pet Niffler, the Sableye's opal eyes narrowing contently as she rests her head down on his shoulder--though she was still peering directly at Ford.]
She's definitely becoming friendlier since we began traveling together. Sometimes I worry she's plotting a bit too much mischief, though.
But then she does. Way to go.]
Wow, uh... congratulations on all of the eggs, Mister Pines?
no subject
Oh, thank you, though I can't claim credit for most of the work.
[Right on cue, Roswell giggles again.]
For a Breeder I realize I haven't actually been doing all that much breeding as of late.
no subject
Well I guess it is what you're supposed to do - I mean, the job you got when you came here, not that you have to do it, but, er...
[Baaaaackpedaling....!]
I um, like your pokemon?
