EV news Broadcast
[There's that familiar jingle of yet another EV News broadcast! This time the reporter is not in the studio, but out on location; the cityscape of Celadon is immediately recognizable. The reporter smiles, sporting a cute set of purple Rattata ears on a headband, while an elderly gentleman stands next to her, leaning heavily on a cane. He has an impressive beard, not too long but very well groomed.]
Hello and welcome everybody, to a special edition of EV News! Kanto correspondant Audrey here, live from Celadon City, where celebrations for the Lunar New Year have kicked off today. Here with me, [She turns and gestures to the elderly man, whose face lights up with a beaming smile,] is Mr. Roden, one of the organizers behind the festival. Now, Mr. Roden, can you tell the viewers at home a little more about this festival?
[Mr. Roden nods, shifting his grip on his cane.] Certainly, certainly. You see, we here in Kanto like to celebrate the new Lunar year in a bit more of a...subdued, personal fashion. But after everything that happened last year, we felt-- rightly so, I believe-- that what our region needs is a little pick me up. Something to start off the new year with a bit of a spark, to celebrate that we are all still here and that the Legendary Pokemon we treasure have been returned to good health. One big celebration to chase away the last bits of grey, if you will. [He broadly gestures around them.] So here we are.
Here we are, indeed. Now, I believe we are now entering the year of the Rattata?
Right you are, my dear. As you likely know, Rattata is associated with renewal and new beginnings, which fits perfectly with the advent of a new decade. Furthermore, this particular year will be associated with the Steel type, promising good health and success to all, as long as you are willing to take a chance. A fine thing to celebrate.
[Audrey nods enthusiastically, reaching up to make sure that Rattata ear headband of hers doesn't come flopping off.] That's certainly true. Could you tell us a bit more about the specifics of the celebration?
Ah, yes, of course. [Mr. Roden brings a hand to his beard, tugging it thoughtfully.] Though the biggest celebration will be happening here in our fine city of Celadon, smaller celebrations and festivals will be going up in all cities around the region. We wanted everyone in Kanto to have a chance to celebrate this new year in a...perhaps less usual way than most are used to seeing. To have the chance to taste some of our traditional foods, perhaps catch one of several plays depicting the Zodiac story, or even go and get your fortune read...indulging in such carefree pastimes should be something open to all.
[There's a pause, and Audrey opens her mouth to continue her coverage, but Mr. Roden's head jerks up slightly, as if he's remembered something important.] Ah, yes, and in addition to all of that, there are a few major events going on that I'd like to highlight.
O-Oh, really? And, er, what might these events be, Mr Roden?
Well! First of all, we've gotten word from Pokemon League officials that gyms in Kanto will be closing down for the remainder of the month. After everything that's happened, our gym leaders should deserve a chance to celebrate and rest too. But, for all of you who'd like to ring in the new year with a new victory, our friends at the DBB, that is, the Double Battle Band, have organized a special time-limited double battle challenge for you all to partake in!
Secondly, on the 22nd of February, Vermillion City will be hosting a Pokemon Obstacle Race, inspired by the old legend of the origins of the Lunar New Year's cycle. If you think you've got what it takes to come in first like our friend Rattata did, then bring your Pokemon to Vermillion City to test your mettle!
Lastly, we'll be wrapping up our Lunar Festival celebrations right here in Celadon City on the 29th. Now, I can't give away too much on the details yet, but let me assure you that it is one party you won't want to miss.
[There's another pause, and Audrey waits this time, anticipating that Mr. Roden will continue...but, well, he doesn't. She gives him about thirty seconds before she lets out a little awkward laugh.] Ahah! Well, I certainly won't miss any of that! [She turns back to the camera.] There you have it, dear viewers! If you're not already in Kanto, get on the Magnet Train and head on down to enjoy these celebrations! They may be an entire month long, but even on a leap year, February comes and goes in the blink of an eye, so be sure not to miss a thing! With that, this is EV News, signing off!
