17th Run // St. Paddy's Day!
Top of the afternoon to ya, lads and lasses!
[ It's Ash! He's putting on a thick Irish accent and he's in the middle of Mt. Mortar it seems, kicking back by a spring with his Pokemon. Crash the Rhyhorn is serving as his back rest and is enjoying a snooze, while Inigo Montoya the Sneasel is curled beside him, tapping at his guitar with interest. Ash has his guitar in his lap (the case is by his feet, so he's not daft enough to just lug a guitar around...or rather, he is but at least he's brought some protection for it. He talks normally onwards, so you have to put up with his regular English (only slightly Irish touched) accent. ]
Man, I nearly lost track of the days but it's St. Patrick's Day! Again! It's kinda crazy to think it's my second one here. Still get a little homesick though, ya know? I know it doesn't mean anything to most of the folks here, so let me explain it like this. Back home it's a holiday about a place called Ireland and it's culture, and that's where my family came from. So for us it's a family holiday where we get together and hang out together. Maybe sing some songs, tell old stories, eat traditional food, all that kind of thing. Since I can't be home and I'm ya know, in the middle of a mountain with some of my mons, I figured I'd just share a little ditty with all of ya.
[ He began to tap his foot on the ground, rousing his Rhyhorn. As he sang and played on his guitar, Crash began to stomp his feet to the beat, clearly getting into it and whinnying along with Ash's vocals. Inigo listened and got into it too, clapping his paws along to the song. ]
Dúlamán na binne buí, dúlamán Gaelach
Dúlamán na farraige, 's é b'fhearr a bhí in Éirinn...~
[ Once he finished his song, he pet Crash with a grin and winked to the camera. ]
So you all have a great day, yeah? Slán!

[ He lifts up his cats, gathered lovingly into his arms to hold them in front of the 'gear camera. Potya did not look amused, while Pod didn't seem to understand what was happening. ]
SAINT GERTRUDE!! Patron saint of cats!! You know, today is her day too but no, you all just want to drink! Sure, fine, UNTIL MICE EAT ALL YOUR HOPS! That'll learn you!
no subject
I'm guessing you're deaf? Cos I said St. Patrick's Day was about my family and my culture. Not about getting fucking drunk.

[ Someone who knew something from his own world was rare. Oh well. There wasn't time travel here so nothing to be done now. ]

[ Inigo Montoya narrowed his eyes at the camera, growling. Who dares shame his Trainer's family's name?? ]
no subject
[ Potya growls back at Inigo, ears going back. You wanna growl? She'll growl back.
Yuri dumps her off his lap for the growling.]
Knock it off! Ugh, never mind. I don't feel like arguing when its not like I can do anything else to fix it so bye.

[Because he remembered! You taught him about it last year, Ash!~
Noct grins, currently seated at a cafe it looks like, a Lotad on his head making it look like he's wearing a strange looking hat. A hat that's bopping to the music even though they had finished playing.]
The song sounded great.
And thanks. It's just, an old folk song. [ But he noticed the Lotad and sat up, drawing Inigo into his lap. ] You been having a good day? And who's that? I haven't seen them before!
[Sorry, Ash. He can't help but tease.]
Old folk song or not, it was really nice, Ash. And yeah! Today's been pretty good! [His grin widens and he sits back carefully and lifts the 'gear so his boyfriend can get a better view of the Lotad in question.] This..is Christian, my Lotad. He's been with us since just before we made it to Violet and warped to Mahogany.
[Christian let out a happy noise, bopping about still. Hello, friend!]
And oh my god he's adorable. I want one! But wait...waaaaait a sec, you called him Christian? [ Raising an eyebrow cos. Yeah, he did rent out Moulin Rouge specifically to see what Noctis had watched before going all out to woo him. He totally didn't find it both kinda fitting and hilarious how they'd fit into the roles themselves. But he did have to deal with his Pokemon gathering round, half to take the piss and half utterly entranced by it with hearts in their eyes. ]
[It's said through a laugh because yeah that...in that case neither of them will ever qualify. Ever.]
Isn't he? He and Quay have been getting along great. I think he's got a thing for music. [Noct reaches up to scratch under Christian's chin, the Lotad chirping in delight. He glances at the 'gear at Ash's question, nodding slightly.] Yeah I--okay look, before you say anything, I really liked that movie even if it prompted me to act like an idiot! So yes, I named him Christian!

[Whatever it might be. Still, Armin will make sure to make a note of it. That way, if Ash is here for a third St. Patrick's day, Armin'll be able to wish him well without needing prompting.]
Is St. Patrick an important person where you are from?
no subject
There's a couple of stories I know about him; chasing all the snakes out of the country, meeting with a fabled hero from folktales, that kind of thing. That's why he got made a Saint.
no subject
[There is a lot to ask about, and he'll get to that, but that just catches Armin's attention first because... well, it sound so out there.]
no subject
[ You gotta love then fifteenth century saints and the shit they pull to be saints. ]
no subject
[Even figuratively, that seems like such a weird and random thing that Armin wonders if there is more behind it. Are snakes just a giant problem where Ash is from? Snakes aren't too common where Armin is from, and most are fairly benign and harmless. But perhaps it is a different story in his world?]

Oh, and what's Saint Patrick's Day? Is it an Irish holiday?
no subject
[ He nodded, sitting up straighter. ] Yeah! It's kind of a celebration of all things Ireland. Me and my family always tried to get together around St. Paddys, to hang out and eat traditional food and all that. Does Japan have anything like that?
no subject
What kinds of food do you eat? [Kazuki is always interested in nosh!] Sort of? I would say... Obon in the summer, when we honor our dead, and the New Year are the times we do really traditional stuff.
no subject
[ Oh, but food! ] Hearty stuff is like, the main thing with Irish food! So stews are massive over there. Lots of potatoes too. And like, there's quite a few dishes where you toss everything into a pot, let it cook for several hours and then dish it up. But my favourite thing is barmbrack. Oh man- [ Sorry his eyes are glazing over as he talks about it ] It's like a fruit loaf, so you get dried fruits and soak em in tea with a bit of Guinness overnight. Then you add the sugar and all the other parts to make it the loaf, put it in a tin and cook it. You serve it by cutting it into thick slices and spreading butter on top.
It's so good, but we only make it around the holidays. Like St. Paddy's day, or Halloween actually!
no subject
Fruit loaf? So it's bread? [Japan has only gotten into the baking scene recently compared to most countries on earth, so while they do make some good stuff, the selection is fairly limited.] But with dried fruits... [He's trying to think of how that might taste. He's had raisins before, at least!] And you soak it in tea? We definitely don't have anything like that! It sounds really interesting!
