victory_road | 15th Zapfish [Video, Mt. Mortar]

[So it's been a somewhat lazy summer for Thida, but finally it's about time for her to head out to the northeastern reaches of Johto - namely, first to Mahogany Town, and there's two paths there. You either go through the mountain or surf around it. And since Thida's still very, very wary of water despite having spent quite a lot of time on an island, her 'gear films the yawning entrance of the now extinct volcano.

She's been here twice before - once during one of the special weekends, and last summer when the Legendary Dogs ran amok. She's never actually gone through one of these caves fully before. There's a soft hum, and then a squeak from below, and the 'gear shifts down to look at a Tepig with an Everstone tied with twine around its neck.]

Back in your home, huh? Wanna find your mom?

[The Tepig looks up at the mountain thoughtfully, tilts its head.] Teh?

Could say hi if we find 'em. Would y'wanna stay with 'em?

[The bent tip of one ear twitches, and the Tepig shakes its head, and there's a soft sigh from Thida, relieved and a little saddened all in the same.]

'Kay. Well, we'll find 'em 'n say hi. [Finally, she turns the camera onto herself.] Anybody ever find a Pokemon's family before? When y'know where y'caught 'em? It can happen, right? Even in a big place...I'm gonna try, but...it's nice t'know if people've done it.

Mhm. Think so. Hope so. Don't think they'd move...

[Well, Thida, usually people or Pokemon move when cataclysm happens where they live, not just out of desperation to escape from severe isolation.]

Where were they last time?

Up pretty high, I think. Not on a ledge, but...sorta...y'go on a ledge, 'n there's a little cave? Somethin' like that.

Oh.

We're you near a town?

A while 'go, yeah, Ecruteak. 'S a nice place.

It is. I'm there now. I'm working on the scavenger hunt and then I have to meet someone in the next town over.

Ooh, yeah...the thingie.

[She met like. One of the people? But it's okay. She meets cool people through the network like Newt all the time.]

Th'people're nice, right? Not mean?

Most of them are. Or just kinda weird. There's a monk in Violet city that Hermione told me about. He's a jerk. He's not mean at first but apparently he won't let you leave without battling him.

So I'm going to sneak in, so I just see him.

[Thida grins and gives Newt a thumbs up.]

You can do it! You'll sneak, right? Sneakin's good!

[Newt smiles back and gives a thumbs up as well.]

I'm really good at sneaking. I wish more places had vents I could use, but I'm good at hiding outside them as well.

Yeah? Y'don't get stuck? That's good...was real good at sneakin' before here, too. If there was ink.

No. I'm small so I can get in places people and things can't reach. Back home we used to play in the ventilation shafts all the time and I spent weeks hiding in them from monsters. But sometimes I had to sneak out to get food and stuff so I got good at hiding and running really fast.

Oh yeah you'd be really good at hiding with ink around. ....I wonder why they won't let you do that here.

Dunno.

[She sighs and shrugs, though not really batting an eye at the idea of monsters. Uh?]

It's real good if y'go slow in ink? Don't make ripples. So, nobody sees you comin', 'specially if you're hidin' on a wall...on a tree...in a corner...y'go someplace tiny, they don't expect it.

[Newt has become accepting to her reality of monsters, so people finding it not odd, is less weird then others might think.]

[Also totally listening for hiding in ink advice even though it will probably never apply to her. Still. Information.]

Oh, that's smart. It kinda sounds like water but ....you can go on walls and stuff.

Yeah, it sticks. Can climb up walls that way, too. And in big sponges full of ink...anything that's inked.

Do you guys have to hide in ink a lot?

No. But if y'gotta...y'gotta.

[She had to, though. When you fight Octarians...sometimes a little puddle behind a wall is the only place you can recoop.]

[She nods.]

That makes sense.

I'm glad you don't have to hide all the time though.

Mm. Yeah, same...y'don't gotta hide lots here, either. Safe t'be out.
