[Kim is taking a break on the side of a route. You can tell because she's under a tree and there's an Espurr draped over her shoulder. Don't mind the pokemon, she's just going to stare at the screen as Kim brings the gear up in focus. Said Espurr will continue to stare throughout the post. Have fun with that. Why no she does not seem to be moving closer...]

This place takes a while to get used to. But I have to admit, the multiple radio stations are a nice perk. Back home we have.....two functional ones at the moment? And I think I have all the songs from the main one memorized. ....I really need to try and find Travis some new music holotapes....

I suppose there's three if you count the Minutemen one. Though it's mostly an alert system and despite being their general I've yet to convince them to play any other filler songs besides that same fiddle music on a loop. There's a few other stations but they're usually pre-war emergency signals that only play in certain areas so I don't think they count.

Anyway. I do have a question though. Does anyone know if there's a station here that has radio dramas? Like plays in radio format? There is one back home that has these old radio programs that I listened to as a kid, and while I know this place won't have the Silver Shroud or anything. I'm open to others. Does this place even have fictional superheros or detectives? I really should check to see if there's a place that sells comics here.

[Oh here's a post that catches Lust's attention immediately. Funnily enough, when she turns on the video, there's a pair of Espurr on her shoulders - one wearing a red bowtie and one wearing a green.]

I'm afraid there aren't any local radio dramas, or a widely broadcast network that carries any, however...

This very network, as well as a small local Goldenrod one, carry the Miss Fitz Story Hour, a currently unscheduled hour long program featuring a performed radio drama.

I'm Miss Fitz, and we're unscheduled as I need to replace a number of actors as well as my co-writer and co-producer. But I'd be happy to send you the recording files of our previous productions.

[They are adorable. Also that sounds really neat.]

Really? That's impressive. Do you do single stories or is a serial?

[Oh right, manners.]

Oh right. I'm Kim Nguyen. It's nice to meet you Miss Fitz. I'd love to hear your previous productions. Back home I travel a lot with my pipboy radio on when I can, and while the music is great. It's always nice to have a radio show too, now and then. Even if it's just the one.

[And not just to torture her friends, despite what some of them think. Looking at you Nick, that's not how crime fighting works, Valentine.]

[Also Mama Murphy is now staring at the two other Espurrs.]

Radio dramas?

[He taps his lip, thoughtfully.]

Unfortunately no. I can't say I've heard of any. They seem to lack a need for fictional heroes, as well.

Serial....? Oh, no, single stories.

A pleasure. I'll send you some files. I come from a place where radio is our predominant form of entertainment - I always enjoyed radio dramas.

What kind of stories? The radio station back home played a serial about a vigilante hero called the Silver Shroud. It's an old pre-war show and when it was first aired normally; every week you'd get a new part of the story, or a new story about the character. Now we just have those recordings.

[Also there were comics as well and that terrible tv show they were apparently trying to make.]

Thanks. At the moment it's our main form of entertainment as well. Unfortunately people don't seem to be making any new stuff, aside from a few singers here and there but I can't fault them for that. Most people are a bit more focused on just surviving. Maybe someday in the future.

Yeah. Like plays or tv shows but told over the radio. I grew up listening to them. And while there might be only one left back home, it's still a nice thing to listen to when you're walking the wasteland.

That's disappointing. I'll check to see if they have any comics anyway. Or right, I suppose they have books here as well. They'd better at least have detective stories.

Mostly mystery or spooky. Always a spooky one for Halloween.

Really? They must not have gained popularity yet where you're from. If they do. I'm still getting used to this everyone comes from different worlds thing. So far I've only met one guy from my world and he's a few years back from where I was and on the other side of the country.

Why not make stuff? Well there's the survival thing and most people don't know much about pre-war stuff. ...oh right. I'm from a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Well I ended up there after being frozen in an underground vault....it's a long strange story. Anyway, Most people spend their time trying to survive what with all the mutated creatures, raiders and just plain trying to find food and water. And a lot of pre-war knowledge has been lost.

I had to explain the rules of baseball to a guy once who thought it was a sport about killing people. I'm pretty sure he thought I was making it up.

No, they haven't. I'm from a place comparable to Earth's Europe at the beginning of the nineteen hundreds. Though with different science.

Do you mean Mr. Boone? We're travel companions. He's told me some about his world.

Yeah, that's him. He's from the West Coast, I'm East Coast. If you know about our world you can probably guess there isn't much travel between them. We've shared some stories ourselves. It might be the same country but there's a lot of differences.

[Stories like, what terrifying animal mutations do you guys have? And, wow all vaults suck.]

The place I'm from, the Boston Commonwealth, got a lot more bombs apparently. Also the coasts have different mutated animals. Though apparently Deathclaws are countrywide. ....much to my disappointment.

I know that it was ravaged by war, and was made close to uninhabitable for a very long time.

Deathclaws?

Yeah. We're more....isolated sections of what once used to be a giant country. I know there's a government over on the west coast but in Boston we have small settlements. Biggest city here- there, was in a former baseball stadium.

Oh, Deathclaws. I have no idea where they came from, or what they came from. Sadly I was lawyer not a biologist, pre-war. But just think giant monster from some horror program. Horns on the head, spikes on the back and fitting the name, really big claws. Also they run really fast because of course they do.

We've got lots of things like that. Honestly I think I've seen only a few animals not mutated. A few dogs, some cats....birds maybe? Those ones are hard to tell.

Mmhmm. I see. Such things are rare in my own world, as well. Television is far more prominent.

Books! Those I have seen in fair number. Perhaps they'll have something more to your liking, miss.

I see. That would make sense, with what I understand of what happened.

Ah. They sound formidable, to say the least.

Really? I thought there weren't any cats.

We used to have both, pre-war, actually. But now tv's are pretty much the things you take apart to use the parts for things that are actually useful.

Hopefully. I'll see if they have stores with them. It would be nice to see more books that aren't all charred paper garbage.

Oh and call me, Kim.

It does. It was a bit confusing to wake up to. But it makes sense and in my opinion probably the only decent thing to happen because of the bombs. The last thing we need is to be a large group with power. A lot of the ....comparatively smaller post-war groups have already shown they shouldn't have had the power they did have.

They're terrible and sadly only a small fraction of the worst things out there.

Wait, really? Does the west not have cats. ....wow that sucks. No, we have cats here. I've seen a few in my travels. Also, my home settlement. Sanctuary Hills? We've got a few running around when I got brought here. Had to bait them out of the wilderness with mirelurk meat but they've decided to stay.

[Hello, other Espurr! Negora waves her little paw from Newt's shoulder. Her thousand-yard stare is noticeably less unnerving than Mama Murphy's, but she doesn't really appear to blink at all in the video. Not that Newt notices.]

I'll be honest, I haven't really looked into the radio stuff they've got here yet. But I'll let you know if I hear anything- and, shit, dude, you gotta tell me if you find a comic store somewhere.

It's really strange to see real stores, with lots of things you can buy. It's not something I've ever experienced.

[His head tilts. Curious. War isn't something he's familiar with. Not in his world, at least. He knows the concept. But that's it.]

You've never seen real stores? Is your world, like, some post-capitalist utopia? Or a dystopia, I guess, there's always a fine line there.

[Sorry that just makes her laugh for a moment.]

Sorry. No, my world's a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

And, I've seen some stores. Pre-War though they were always pricey and nearly empty because of all the shortages we had due to the wars. There were food riots a lot.

Post War, and I got to see this because, long story involving being tricked into cryogenics. Twp centuries later, most, or all of the stores left are looted husks and the places to actually buy things are the travelling traders or the small market like stores people set up in settlements. And even then their selection is a bit random and limited.

Yeah, it's kind of a misnomer considering how there were wars going on around the world anyway. But when the 'Great War' is the one where every country decides, hey let's all use our nukes, this is a great plan? Then you tend to divide the timeline up into pre and post....that.

[She shrugs.]

Don't be. The only people who should be sorry are long dead by now. And nuclear wasteland or not, it's been my home for over a year now. There are good people there. People who deserve better. I live there, well I did. So I make the most of it and try to help as much as I can.

It certainly is, quite the world though.

All of humanity is always the same, no matter the world and no matter what path it's taken. One way or another, humankind finds some way to wage war until there's nothing left to war for.

I don't think it does. Mr. Boone doesn't think so.

I don't recall hearing of any major wars occurring in my home world. Perhaps they had all subsided by the time I was brought online? As I understand it, we come from wildly differing universes here.

[Then again, there could have been wars, but no one ever told Shadowmaru about them.]

If there's anything I've learnt from my life it's that, war...war never changes.

Still. People are not humanity. I'm from what most people would consider the worst type of world. And they're probably right, it can be downright horrific and prejudiced and terrible. But there are good people there. Trying to help others. And as long as those people exist....then it's worth it, to keep trying.

My best friend and partner...detective partner back home, once said that if all he had to show for existing was the good that we managed to do in the world then it was enough for him. And this is a guy who gets treated like dirt because some people don't think he's human enough.

People can be stupid.

[She misses Nick a lot.]

Well, we have cats on the east coast. That's strange. I wonder where else they are.
