[Video] An Announcement!

[When the Gear starts up, Matt can be seen framed against the outside of the observatory. He's wearing a lab coat, his red-blonde hair a mess, but he's obviously thrilled. He waves, as he starts to speak.]

Hi everyone out there! For those of you who might not know, I'm Matt Holt, and, well, I guess you could say that I run the Sevii Observatory. I wanted to invite everyone to come to the observatory this week for a spectacular sight.

Starting tonight, and going for about a week, there is going to be a large Minior Shower after dark. From the research I've done, it looks like it's going to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This weekend, there's going to be even more Miniors, and possibly other pokemon that will appear. It's going to be fantastic.

I'll be at the observatory all night to answer any questions people have, and to help people use our telescopes to see the Miniors, planets, and stars.

If anyone wants to join me, or set up some kind of booth... please, only things like food and education opportunities, let me know! I do have some tables and a couple tents I could set up.

[The Gear shuts off as Matt leans against the building behind him, looking like he just ran a marathon. Boy doesn't like talking to lots of people.]

A Minior Shower?! You mean there's going to be a whole bunch of Little Dippers raining down from the sky?!

[Someone is extremely excited about this!!

Mabel is hugging her Minior close as she vibrates at the prospect, the Pokemon thrumming in delight.]

Is it just going to be on the island or is it going to be everywhere? I want to get one of every color!!!

Yup.

[Matt grins. He's quickly becoming quite fond of Mabel.]

From what I can tell, it's just going to be on the island. I've been talking to the ferries, and they're going to make extra trips for this.

Omigoshomigosh--I have to tell Dipper! We have to come back to visit because we totally have to be there for it!!

[She hasn't a feeling it won't be hard to convince her brother because ALIEN POKEMON ARE GOING TO BE FALLING FROM THE SKY!!!]

This is going to be so cool! Little Dipper we're going to get you some new friends that are just like you!!

[Her Minior thrums again and Mabel giggles, turning her 10,000 watt smile on Matt.]

We're definitely going to come visit!!

Awesome. It'll be a great time, I promise.

[Really, Matt's as excited as anyone else over this whole thing. He loves sharing Space with people.]

[That gets a snort out of Mabel as she playfully rolls her eyes, smile unwavering.]

Of course it will be! Alien Pokemon are going to be falling from the sky and we get to see our friends! Sounds totally awesome to me!!

A Minior shower, you say? ...And you are completely, absolutely certain it involves no soil-corroding meteors or falling moons?

[Probably not, but better safe than sorry.]

Completely certain. The only moons falling are Lunatones, and those won't be destructive. Minior are just fun little hovering creatures.

...Being hit by a falling Lunatone would be unpleasant, but far less than the alternative.

[Once was enough, thank you very much.]

Perhaps I'll visit later in the week, then. The species has caught my attention previously, but I've not yet had the opportunity to observe it in person.

Ok, fair. Being hit by a falling anything is not fun, but yes. No actual moons will be falling. I can't imagine what that would do to the tides.

[A wide grin crosses his face.]

Please do! From what I've read, it promises to be a fantastic experience.

The tides would be the least of our problems, believe me.

[But a risk-free meteor-viewing party does sound interesting.]

What kind of accomodations does the island offer? Is there any equipment you'd recommend bringing?

Oh, yeah. I'm not in the mood to find out anything about that.

One of the neighboring islands has a resort that has rooms for rent if you wanted to stay over, and there are plenty of places for camping if that's more your thing.

As for equipment, don't worry. We've got everything you can hope to need here.

Perhaps I'll set camp, then, if there is space for it. What better way to encourage spontaneous stargazing than to sleep beneath them? besides, I doubt any Minior would be rude enough to strike a tent as it falls.

[He's totally been listening this whole time. Proudly. Leaning against the wall of the observatory. And grinning. Like his face is going to crack.]

You did a great job with the announcement.

[Marshmallow, who was holding the Gear, puts it down to shuffle over to Matt and hug him before stepping back to let Shiro do the same.]

Thanks. I hate making big announcements. There was one time at the Garrison that I had to lead comms for an attack drill, and I almost puked.

I don't think anyone noticed. You did just fine.

[Yeah, it's hug time now. A big crushing one.]

I didn't notice then, either. [He really didn't.] Is there anything I can do to help set up?

[Matt melts into Shiro's hug, sighing a bit.]

I just want to share space and space things with people. This is... an awesome way to do it and I hope I don't fuck it up.

You won't, okay? You haven't done one thing wrong this whole time, Matt.

You're great. You can do this.

[Fight him.]

Oh wow, that sounds really cool!

I am definitely heading over!

It'll be great to have you!

Yeah, I'm really hoping that it'll be as fantastic as I've read it can be.

How could it not be? You know, I've never actually seen a Minior even sort of in real life or close or anything.

And hey, I already live in the islands!

[Halley, Matt's own Minior floats up above him and twirls cheerfully.]

Well, it looks like Halley wanted to say hi. That's my Minior. I've had him for a while now, but they're just really neat little Pokemon. Rock and Flying, but they never really learn any flying moves. Oops?

Well hi there!

Ha, that's like Gyarados. Sure, they're a dual flying type...that can't fly...

[He's very painfully new, but after listening to the announcement it was honestly a really nice distraction from his thoughts. Not that he knew what Minior were but it sounded like meteor only it might actually a pokemon just like the Minccino on his head?]

Excuse me but... would these be visible as far back as New Bark Town? I... only just arrived. I don't know my way around, however... witnessing a Minior shower would actually be a pleasant distraction for now.

[He felt like a child, acting like this. Shy, reserved, and completely unsure of himself. He wondered if it was a side effect of physically being fourteen again, and being himself now. Not a puppet of God.]

If not, would you be able to tell me how I can get there?

[Matt thinks for a moment, as Halley, his own Minior floats up to hover just above his shoulder. See, human! Halley is a good Pokemon, and friend to nutty professor trainer.]

Um. To be honest, I'm not sure how far around things will be visible. At home, a meteor shower would be visible for thousands of miles, but some things about pokemon make sense, some don't.

As to how to get here, I am so awful at directions. If you can get to one of the larger towns or cities, they have information kiosks. Just ask how to get to the Sevii Island ferry.

[The Minior made him blink and then smile a little. So that's what they look like.]

That's three days to Cherrygrove, or so I'm told. But then, there's the ferry in the other direction.

[He only had a week to do this, too. He didn't want to get his hopes up. But it was something to try. He shifted suddenly and Minccino climbed up his clothes and settled on his shoulder, he nuzzled his cheek with a large ear.]

You want to try it? Alright, I guess we will. Ah, thank you Matt Holt. My name is Hope Estheim.

It's good to meet you, Hope, and welcome to the area.

It takes a bit of getting used to, but honestly it's really awesome once you get your head around everything.

Mm. [A nod.] It certainly is a lot to take in. Thank you for the information.

[Is Armin going to come? Of course, Armin is going to come, like he'd ever turn down an opportunity like this.]

Otherwise, really, whatever you'd like to do. I'm totally not turning down any help at all. Besides, we haven't talked much lately.

Do you think people will be interested in that? We don't really have any links to space.

[After Mabel has alerted him to the alien pokemon falling from the sky. Um yes, he is here for this.]

That's amazing! Do you have any idea of what other pokemon might show up?

[Pidge is smirking at him over the video feed, looking simultaneously impressed and surprised.]

Are you throwing a work party?

[She's never pegged Matt as the Throwing Parties type. They're both nerds, after all. But a lot has changed since they both left Earth, and maybe this is just one more way that's manifested.]
