[Video] Eighth Curse

[As the video clicks on it appears to be pointed at a old, battered looking TV. The kind of boxy TVs you can't even buy anymore. It has a built in VHS which has an unmarked tape in it. Long slender fingers push the tape in and the screen crackles to life.

It's a plain enough image. A well in a stark and empty looking field with some twisted, gnarled trees in the back round. The footage is grainy at best and you are watching it through a pokegear recording after all. If there's any audio to be had it's drowned out over the hum of electricity and the breathing of whoever is recording this.

Just when it feels like the video may have frozen or glitched, a bulbous, gloved hand suddenly reaches out of the well clinging to the edge.

Then another one.

The swollen, puffy fingers seem to throb for a moment before straining as long, skeletal arms start to appear.

A dripping, shiny, wet set of horn like flaps sitting atop a shiny head.

Those wide eyes.

That placid smile.

It hauls it's rounded torso out of the well and slops onto the grass in a tangle of spider-like limbs and muck from the depths of the well.

And as Mr. Mime rises to it's hands and knees, crawling towards the screen...it's looking right at you!!!

Then the video cuts to static and Jinx sighs in relief.]

I've either just broken the curse or doomed us all. Either way it'll be an interesting week till we know for sure!

Well, looks like you're having fun.

I'm finding ways to entertain myself yes.

I mean mostly this was just because one of my Pokemon brought it home and I didn't know what to do with it.

Did any of your pokemon get out?

I'd ask why you watched a suspicious tape it the first place but I'm sure the temptation of curiosity was just too much.

Just a couple. They presented me with their own gifts upon their return.

Honestly what self respecting young adult could resist?

I mean don't get me wrong I'm not the type to push a button that tells me not to...unless I'm in the mood. But I figured it was Halloween for a few more hours and well, here we are.

See I got a couple gifts too...other then this creepy tape.

[She produces a top hat and places it at a jaunty angle on her head. It is a little tattered.]

Well my Absol, Honchkrow and Purrloin were all with me that night and just took off running. Two of them popped out of their pokeballs to do it!

Then while I was trying to keep track of them I spotted one of my meowths, my sneasel and my Deino who were all in the computer so...I honestly have no idea how that worked.

I lost track of the sneasel pretty fast but I followed my Deino because he's still young and...well let's just say there's some property damage I'm not taking responsibility for.

Seems like you lost an entire team for the night.

Should you be admitting that publicly?

At least they came back. I think that's proof they care about me.

I'm not even entirely sure it matters. I've seen how effective the Jennys are at their jobs. Even the police from our world occasionally make themselves useful don't they?

Very true. And they did bring you gifts.

To be fair the police in our world are woefully unprepared. And, given I lived in Gotham, incredibly corrupt.

So I guess all that talk about GCPD getting cleaned up never took huh?

Jump City contracts out to the science police. You know those swat guys from Star Labs? It never actually helps them when it comes to heavy hitters but they try their best.

I'm just saying if we had our powers? It'd be like "Team Rocket who?"

Well, you know what they say about polishing a crap.

They've tried creating specialist teams before. It doesn't always end up well.

[A wistful sigh.] Goddess I miss my powers.

Heh...it's so weird sometimes when I realize I'm talking with THE Pamela Isley and you're just so...relatable.

Is this world as bad as ours when it comes to like...pollution and mistreating plant life?

[Ivy gives a hum of thought.] Mmm, I am more human in this world I suppose, that may be why.

It's... different. There's more of a conscious effort I believe to preserve and protect. But there's also creatures like Grimer and Trubbish which speaks volumes to the other side of the issue.

It wasn't like...fifty fifty back home?

That's a fair point. Have you gotten an Alola style Grimer yet? They seem...healthier?

No. More like 80 to 20.

I'm afraid not. I only own a regular Grimer. I've not had time to visit the islands yet.

I just got back from there actually and if you're interested I'd be happy to bring one for you to have a look at.

I suppose when I say "Healthy" that's not really like...a scientific observation. Honestly I just like the coloring better. But I guess the islands brought them in to help with the garbage and they've done too good of a job?

Mostly I just wanted to see a rainbow colored muk with hyper concentrated poison crystals. And my shiny Muk now has a new friend.

My honchkrow brought it to me a few days ago and it's been really eating at me. Like I swear I can see the Mime everywhere I go....even in my room at night

what's supposed to happen in a week?? is it going to happen to everyone now?

I mean, probably something terrible. Can't you feel it all around you? Right behind you?

I haven't had this tape for a whole week so...

Dare I even ask what that was about?

That really is the question is isn't it?

A powerful Honchkrow brought this tape to me on Halloween night and I was...compelled to share it.

What are your thoughts?

It looks like it's supposed to be some sort of... "horror" sort of thing, right?

*it's not nearly enough to even begin to compare with some of the stuff he dealt with back home, though, so this is a purely academic assumption*

I guess that depends on your definition of "horror". Some people might call it art.

I've seen Mr. Mimes before. They may be creepy but this one?

There's something...not right about it.

I mean look at it's eyes right? And the way it moves?

Egh.

I'm sure you could get the same effect from anything, though, with a few tricks with acting and lighting and such.

I mean yes I suppose?

But in a world like this one where reality itself sometimes breaks, can we really rule out demonic monsters from beyond?

Well, there were those strange ones that came out of that rift that one time...

Not to sound like those Legend seekers but I refuse to believe that we've discovered everything paranatural or abnormal about this world.

I'd say that it can't all be science but most the "science" around here operates like magic anyway.

Usually though, whenever something new is discovered, it's in the form of entirely new species, or new evolutions or such of existing ones...

I hope that Mr. Mime is okay. Falling down a well can lead to some pretty bad injuries if you're not lucky.

[Doreen had been on a team with an Angel of Death. She had also fought the devil. In hell. Something like this didn't really register as being scary anymore.]

I mean maybe? But he's also a pokemon and these guys can take ridiculous levels of damage sometimes.
