Anyone got a recommendation for good batteries in this damn place?

[ the video feed opens not on jack's face, but on a hotel room desk. he's got several batteries that look like they could fit into a flashlight or other types of utilities sitting on the desk, spread out. the only other things visible are his scarred hands and most of his upper body, wearing a black shirt. the feed cuts off at the shoulder.

his skitty, crybaby, is also in the shot, gently batting at some of the smaller batteries. ]

Every single one of these has died after an hour of use, maybe. Some were dead when I put them in.

Back in my world, batteries actually lasted for a decent amount of time.

[ jack makes a scoffing noise and leans down out of sight of the camera to get something. meanwhile, the skitty on camera stiffens, and then wiggles, running across the screen to chase something, clattering some of the batteries.

... that something being a joltik, bouncing across the screen as crybaby chases it to the other side.

jack can be seen looking up, a flash of a scarred face and white hair. ]

What are you --

[ he reaches up to turn off the gear as he gets up after his skitty. ]

I think most spider-like Pokemon are. I've got one as well, but he's part bug, part water type.

Electric and Bug is a good combination though. His Electric typing will help cover for the weakness against Flying types he'd otherwise would have had if he was a pure Bug type.

[Nice as he thinks spiders are when the Joltic suddenly launches himself at the camera, Armin can't help but yelp and jolt a bit. It's just! Very sudden. A lot of surprises. And up close, those mouthparts look pretty intimidating.

Thankfully, by the time Jack gets back to him, he's mostly managed to wipe the embarrassment off his face.]

It's all right. Did he damage your gear?

You seem to end up with a lot of unexpected pokemon.

[Slightly amused.]

Have you thought of a name yet?

Zeus was a god, wasn't he?

[Armin's got the feeling he's heard the name before somewhere. Not that he can place it exactly.]

Gizmo sounds pretty cute though. It seems very fitting.

Then Gizmo definitely seems like a safer choice than Zeus.

Have you been taking on any of the gyms yet? An electric type is going to be a good asset to your team for that. I can't even remember the countless of times Circinus has helped me out.

I've found it can be an advantage to have a few stronger pokemon on hand while training up new ones. Some people really do well in a mentoring role. Plus for the very young ones, training with another Pokemon you own, who you know will pull their punches can be a huge advantage.

My Incineroar Magellan has always had a knack for mentoring younger Pokemon too. Though he does get very theatrical about it.

He's got this habit of, well, getting very dramatic about their attacks. Even when you know they couldn't have hurt him at all, he'll roll over and play up his 'horrendous' defeat.

It's his way of encouraging them. I think.

[He hasn't really met her before. Unless he met her when she was a pup. Honestly, it's quite difficult to keep track of all those walking balls of fluff Bertolt keeps breeding.]

It looks like you've been pretty busy collecting pokemon.

Sometimes pokemon get like that. Did you catch her in the wild or was she hatched from an egg? People you hatch from an egg tend to be a little easier to handle, but there are some exceptions.

Well, in that case, she might just be testing you to see if you are up to her personal standard, so to speak.

Though if you ever want any more Growlithes in the future, you should contact a person called Bertolt Hoover. He breeds lots of them. Some of his even have gone on to be police dogs with the local Jennies.

I only offer it as a suggestion. I could be totally wrong. It is not like I can read her mind.

Though that might be an option. If you do have a psychic type pokemon. You could ask them to translate her thoughts for you. Maybe she'll listen to you better if you can communicate better.

[Or, you know, she is just a brat and Jack is a complete noob. Who'd listen to a noob? Not Laika, that's for sure.]
