Are there any of you out there who have found yourself afflicted by attracting a certain sort of pokemon? Despite your best efforts?

I should dearly like to know one one deals with this situation.

technically five birds if you count the extra heads as their own birds

Aah, I see.
Well, the first thing to ask is, are you frequenting places with bodies of water?
While some can live on land or fly, you're usually not going to find a Water Pokemon unless you're fishing or Surfing, or if you're near enough to the beach or a river.

As in I've somehow managed to acquire another of the same type, despite my best efforts.

I wouldn't exactly say despite my best efforts, but I do seem drawn to one particular type of pokemon, yes. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. If anything, the more you focus on one particular type, the more specialised and knowledgable you can become. Or, at least, that is how I see it.

That is a shame. What type of pokemon is it? Perhaps there is someone else who is willing to trade you.

I ended up with a pretty good mix and I usually end up keeping the ones that have fur, but for a while I was favoring dark and fire pokemon for whatever reason.

I must say, I would hardly mind adding more dark types to the roster over the current set.
