19th Match // video // Goldenrod

[Today's home video features Adorababy the Sylveon and an unknown Eevee. 'Dora is sitting on his haunches, front paws and back toes all lined up in a neat little row. He looks mildly confused (but not unhappy) as the Eevee circles around him, headbutting him and rubbing against him like a fluffy kitten. This adorable video is accompanied at first only by the adoring "Veeee!"s enunciated by the worshiping Eevee, but after about twenty seconds of cuteness overload, the cameraman speaks up.]

Is anybody missing a puppycat?

[Whaddup, it's ya boi, Krieg. He sounds just as confused as 'Dora looks. The Eevee is oblivious to all of the confusion it's causing, completely and utterly absorbed as it is in its worshipful adulations.]

It followed us home from Goldenrod and won't go away.

[He easily falls into step beside her, and 'Dora and his new little Eevee admirer follow closely behind them both.]

Mngh...Maybe the nurses will know how to help it find a home.

[He just got an unexpected egg, he can't take on another baby! This is madness!]

You're not going to keep her?

[Yeah, time to try and figure out why he's acting odd about this.]

I have too many and I can't have all of them out all the time.

[....There you go, Maya, mystery solved. The PC really bothers him, despite Fe Fe's reassurances that it's actually very nice.]

I thought they were fine with the PC? Mine seem to be.

[She's somehow missed this thing that bothers him.]

[Krieg shrugs. He's glad they're walking somewhere together, instead of talking face to face. It's uncomfortable to think about and also not easy to admit. Not having to look into her face while he confesses this makes it a little easier.]

...If someone tried to put me in there I'd kill them.

[Is he projecting his ~~fear~~ dislike of confinement onto his 'mons? Probably.

....Definitely.]

The Robot Arm says nobody hates it but I still do.

I would too but then again, I'm not a pokemon.

[However she's thinking this over.]

On one hand I'd say you should trust your pokemon but on the other....

[Well things are hard to get over.]

Is there anyway to leave pokemon outside the PC? Or is that just a rule, you can only ever have six with you?

[Some things you never get over, even when you forget them.

...But damn it's vindicating to hear Maya say "Me, too."]

Mnnn...People with houses can let all of them run around. But if you try to take more than six with you in the balls, the extras just go to the box.

[Maya has her own strong feelings about confinement. She's not a fan and if any of her pokemon didn't want to go into the pc, well then they wouldn't and she'd work with that.]

Okay, well that gives us something to work with. Can you leave the pokemon at a house when you travel?

I could, but I don't wanna bother Sugar any more. I already leave the Mud Pony with him.

[All of his monsters are shockingly well-behaved, considering who their trainer is, but he doesn't want to dump them on his friends, all of whom already have plenty of monsters of their own.]

...Maybe I could ask the Squid Girl? She has Jim Dear's house all to herself now...

[That's a yes, then. Good.]

Asking her sounds like a good idea then.

Mmkay. I'll ask.

[Once he settles the problem of this little stray Eevee.

Speaking of, he glances back over his shoulder at Adorababy and Adorababy's new friend. 'Dora is walking along right behind him, and there's actually some pep in his step. It seems he's over his confusion and is warming up to the company of his new admirer. The little Eevee is walking along right beside 'Dora, trilling and chattering away, obviously in very good spirits.

It's more than enough to ping Krieg with a generous heaping of guilt. Is rehoming the little guy really the right thing to do?]

...Do you want a Puppycat?

[She'll glance back at that.]

It looks like it's your pokemon they're becoming friends with.

Maybe...if they don't belong to anyone else, and we can figure out a place for your pokemon to stay that's not in the pc. You can keep this one too.

[He wants to protest that 'Dora is Angel's Pokemon, and he's just looking after him, but that would involve bringing Angel up, and that is still a giant gaping emotional wound he is all too happy to ignore.]

Pfff! Your scared bunny is friends with the Zen Doll!

[Maya's Scorbunny also seems to be scared of Krieg, unlike this Eevee, but, details.

That aside, though, he glances back again, consideringly.]

Mmn. Maybe.

[It's not like he'd mind keeping the little guy around. He seems very sweet, and also 'Dora is really warming up to him. It's just. The PC storage.]

They're starting to open up a bit more. I'm not sure how it decides which pokemon to be less afraid of, though.

[It's a work in progress, Scorch is.]

Just...think about. It's not like you have to make any decisions right now. And if the whole PC thing is a thing you can't do. We'll find something to work around it.

Zen Doll is the least scary.

[Krieg may be biased, but his statement also isn't entirely untrue. If a Pokemon exists that's less threatening than Dolly, he sure hasn't seen it.

In regard to Maya's suggestion, he responds easily enough:]

Mnng. Okay.

[He's unspeakably grateful every day for her presence, but some days he feels it even more strongly than usual - and this is one of those days. Her ability to blend logic and reassurance together is second to none, as far as he's concerned. He's already feeling better about the situation, and more positive about its eventual resolution.]

That is true.

[It's hard to beat Dolly at being nonthreatening.]

I have noted they seem to like quiet.

[Loud noises like say, the Voltorb, tend to startle the poor strange pokemon.]

Pfff! I'm the least quiet!

[Which is true...a lot of the time, but Krieg is also quiet a lot more often than he realizes, too. Dolly has had a lot to do with that.]

But I don't want to scare the monsters.

[Also: that. Who would have guessed that this big meaty murder machine has an equally big but surprisingly soft heart?]

[Krieg, ever the surprise. Though considering this is Maya, it's probably not as big of a surprise as it would be to others.]

Yeah. You're pretty good with pokemon.

They're easier than people.

[Because people don't always tell you when they're upset, or hurting, or if they need something. They also don't always tell you when you've upset them, or hurt them. Pokemon - at least the ones he's met - don't play that game. Artifice is an entirely human art, and it's not one he understands.]

[She almost responds and then thinks it over for a moment.]

They are, aren't they.

[Huh, that's actually true. People lie and trick you. Pokemon seem to be pretty straightforward. And if there's anything Maya hates it's being betrayed or used.]

Yeah.

[Well, most people. Present company excluded. He knows he'll never have to worry about Maya hiding anything from him, or playing games with him, or...anything, really.]

...I'm really glad you're here.

[Most people. After all she does trust Krieg. A lot. To the point where him betraying her isn't really a thing she worries about.]

....You know. I think I am too.

[It's taken a lot of time and she misses her powers everyday but...]

It's not so bad here.

[Not that he really has the capacity for betrayal, but if he did he would die before betraying Maya.

He brightens considerably when she admits it's not so bad here.]

Yeah! I knew you'd like it!

[She resists a smirk at that.]

Well it took me a while to buy into this place.

[Honestly despite everything, she was expecting Jack to try something. She is very glad she was mistaken.]

But it grows on you.
