19th Match // video // Goldenrod
[Today's home video features Adorababy the Sylveon and an unknown Eevee. 'Dora is sitting on his haunches, front paws and back toes all lined up in a neat little row. He looks mildly confused (but not unhappy) as the Eevee circles around him, headbutting him and rubbing against him like a fluffy kitten. This adorable video is accompanied at first only by the adoring "Veeee!"s enunciated by the worshiping Eevee, but after about twenty seconds of cuteness overload, the cameraman speaks up.]
Is anybody missing a puppycat?
[Whaddup, it's ya boi, Krieg. He sounds just as confused as 'Dora looks. The Eevee is oblivious to all of the confusion it's causing, completely and utterly absorbed as it is in its worshipful adulations.]
It followed us home from Goldenrod and won't go away.

[Where else are you going to keep all your books? These are the important questions in life.]
And if you have a place like that, you could leave the pokemon you can't bring with you there. Then they'd be able to run around freely while you are gone. That's what I do with my Wailords. I never put them in the PC. I just let them swim freely out in the ocean. They've even picked up a wild friend out there.
Video;
[He can't crash at Shiro's place forever.
Well, he could but like. He probably shouldn't.
Also if he were really going to settle somewhere it'd be closer to the place his friends might turn up. Speedy trips from the Islands back to New Bark are rough.]
I guess I can find it a home.
[And...back to the original problem of what to do with this Eevee?
The Eevee is in his lap, now. Peeking at the 'Gear screen. Oh! There's someone there! Hello!]
Video;
Well, if you really think you can't take care of it, there is no shame in rehoming a pokemon. And it is an Eevee. They are pretty popular, so you shouldn't run into any trouble finding someone willing to take it.
[Armin can't help but smile at the scrappy little eevee peering at him via the camera.]
He's awfully cute, after all.
Video;
He's a punk.
[The Eevee in his lap looks up at him and voices a questioning "Bweeee?"
....So he begrudgingly scratches it between its ears. The resulting "Bweee!" is one of pure delight.
Ugh. Punk.]
You never had one, did you?
Video;
He was incredibly shy and anxious, so I'm not surprised you never ended up meeting him.
[Phobos hadn't done very well with strangers at the best of times. And Krieg was... stranger than most. Also louder than most.]
Video;
I didn't know that!
[...Like Armin just said, Krieg. Try to keep up, buddy.]
They can grow up a ton of different ways, right?
Video;
[Krieg is responsible for the noisiness half of the time!]
Newt is the one taking care of him now. She is able to give him a much calmer environment to live in.
[And also isn't juggling a job, and personal research, and a pod of Lapras to take care of. Armin loves every bit of everything he does, but it does mean he needs his pokemon to have a certain level of independence if he wants to manage it all.]
And yes. They are known as the Evolution Pokemon. Something about its genetic make-up is just incredibly malleable. Right now, we know of eight ways they can evolve, but honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if we discovered more.
Video;
[Ripley is an A+ Arcanine, a good mother-figure to both Newt and all Newt's 'mons.]
I know the pink one.
[As if that were an invitation, here, too, is Adorababy, popping up over Krieg's shoulder to see who his trainer is talking to. When he spots Armin, he trills a polite greeting.]
What are the other kinds?
Video;
[Which... on second thought, might be a bit too much information all at once.]
Wait, give me a moment.
[Armin sets down his gear for a moment, though he soon returns, this time with a Vaporeon, who has managed to drape himself on Armin's lap in a manner that looks artful and casual and definitely is taking a good amount of effort.]
This is a Vaporeon. It's what happened with Eevee evolves into a water type. I caught this one on Victory Road.
[The Vaporeon's ears twitch for a moment as he thrills his own greeting, partially at Krieg, but mostly at the Sylveon he can see over the large man's shoulder.]
Video;
When the Vaporeon is displayed for viewing, Krieg gets a good long squint. That is one fishy-looking cat!]
It's a Purr-maid! It suits you!
[Of course it suits him, Krieg, it's a water type.
Adorababy, meanwhile, is also delighted. He's always pleased to meet new Eeveeloutions. Hello! My name's Adorababy! What's yours?]
Is there a fire one?
[Look, Krieg's definitely not considering keeping the little punk face, but it never hurts to learn new things about stuff, right? Right!]
Video;
Nailed it.]
There is! It's called Flareon. To get one, you need to give your Eevee a Fire Stone. Its fur is supposed to be incredibly fluffy which makes it pretty popular, even with people who don't battle.
Video;
It's nice to meet you, Leon!
Krieg, meanwhile, tilts his head. He's seen Evolutionary Stones, and has even given a few out as gifts during the holidays. He's never had a Pokemon that needed one to help it grow up, though.
...Which just makes him think of another question.]
Mnn. What kind of rock do you need to use to get a Fairy?
[Not that he's interested in another Sylveon, (a super fluffy fire puppycat sounds much more his speed) but he is curious. He doesn't remember Angel using anything to help Adorababy evolve, but his memory is crap, so that's not exactly surprising.]
Video;
Video;
Oh.
That makes so much depressing, distressing sense. Of course Sylveon evolves the way it does because it loves its trainer. How else would such a loving and affectionate creature grow up?
Thankfully, the aforesaid Sylveon distracts him from the looming Bad Feels by draping over his shoulder and sliding down his front to join the Punk-faced Eevee in his lap. Adorababy's tail smacks him in the face on the way down, which coaxes a snicker out of him, before he goes back to grilling Armin with questions.]
Did you use a rock on yours?
Video;
No, I didn't need to. I already caught him like this. Victory Road is not the sort of environment you see a lot of unevolved pokemon. All the pokemon I met there were incredibly strong.
Video;
Sounds like a good place for cockfights.
[And not just for the Murder Chicken!]
But you gotta have all the badges to get in, right?
Video;
Video;
[Although those places can be accessed with enough eridium. He suspects security around Victory Road is a little tighter than the gate to access Terramorphous.]
Guess I'll have to flatten the last gyms faster, huh?
Video;
How many badges do you have left to get?
Video;
But the Pretty Lady needs them all so it's still gonna be a while.
[Like hell he would go to the Forbidden Victory Road alone, without his bestie.]
Video;
[Armin has to agree, she is a pretty lady, but he would never publically call her that.]
Are those six badges you still need all from one region? Because if so, you'll be running into elite challenges now. Those are definitely a lot more, well, challenging than the regular ones. They take a lot more preparation.
Video;
[Krieg has some vague idea that Maya is completely bemused by his nickname for her, but she's never actually objected, and anyway, it's the complete truth (she is the prettiest), so like...yup.]
Really? They haven't seemed any harder.
video;
[Or maybe Armin just naturally overthinks everything ever.]
video;
[Are there special teams he should be asking for? How does this work? He thought he knew but maybe he doesn't. What a mystery!]
