Video (action possible at the Collegiate Gym)

It's come to my attention that it's been some time since I've properly addressed people here, so I am now seeking to remedy that. My name is Sion Astal, an Aurora League gym leader, and co-leader of the Collegiate Gym. Our gym is located on the route south of Ecruteak City, and places an emphasis on tactics, strategy, and having a solid understanding of how different types and moves interact with each other in battle.

Gym facilities include practice rooms with optional simulated weather effects, classrooms, and a growing library that includes both local information and a few contributions from people from other worlds like ourselves. Use of the facilities is free and open to all, though it's recommended to make reservations in advance. We offer various classes, both by myself and my co-leader Ryner Lute, as well as by others.

Additionally, we'd like to expand our collection of books on topics relating to other worlds. If you have anything you'd like to possibly contribute, please let us know. We'll be happy to assist should you need it, as well.

*there's a pause, as if he's essentially said everything he has to say... but then he gets a mischievous grin and adds:*

Oh, and by the way... my co-leader, Ryner, happens to be single, should there be any ladies out there looking.

*and that's what Ryner gets for letting Sion do the broadcast without any input from him!*

Ah, then the coup is for naught, for the usurper proves to be utterly incompetent.

Really, now, are you truly going to promote him so poorly? You could at least tell us if he likes long walks on the beach and romantic poetry.

That's better already! Now you just need to embroider a little. Add a few adjectives that came right out of a romance novel. Share a funny but charming anecdote that will catch a potential girlfriend's attention.

Excellent. You've already cast a line for interested partners, but that's the minimum you'll need to get them to bite.

Of course. I'll just have to wait and see what sort of responses there are. And vet any interested persons appropriately, of course.

Naturally. Wouldn't want to deal with an unsuitable person on a regular basis, right? There's no point in being the wingman if you're going to suffer after.

[Says the guy who totally would have hung out with an angry, stabby Vagan for his best friend's sake...]

Best friends usually do, unless they deserve someone just as terrible as they are. ...Which I'm 100% sure is not the case here.

Just checking- if we want to make a contribution to the library, does it have to be our own writing, or would you accept it if somebody donated another person's work? So long as they didn't take credit.

Any donations are welcome regardless of whether they're donated by the actual author. Though having the correct author listed would certainly be preferred, yes.

That's a relief. I mean, I wouldn't mind submitting something of my own if you've got a shortage on a subject I have experience with, but I'll admit it's been... Some Time since I've had a chance to exercise my writing chops. ["Some Time" being... roughly a decade but it's Fine.]

...though since you're putting priority on getting information on other worlds: are there any specific details you're looking for about our home dimensions, or is anything fair to submit if you can argue its significance?

Considering that, as far as we are aware, there exists no other collection of such information from and about other worlds, nearly any contribution would be welcome. Children's stories and collections of trivia no less so than histories and scientific texts. There have been people from countless other worlds living here for some years now, yet, there has been little to no record-keeping or study of that. One can go to a library or bookstore here and find books on the various legends and history of this world, but what of that of the others represented here? Simply because we outsiders are so small in number doesn't mean there need be no record of our worlds preserved here.

The only trouble I see with it is that- since we arrive in this world with little more than the clothes on our back, it's... Unlikely most of us would have any original manuscripts from our home on hand... so, that would mean a number of submissions would be transcribed copies based on the author's memory.

On its own? That's not so much a problem so long as it's made clear that these versions aren't exact replicas of the original works. Most fables and fairy tales are a multi-generational telephone game to begin with, and the details there are less important than the overall message.

...but when you bring up historical documents, that's when I start to get worried. It can be hard enough to fact-check accounts of the past when you actually live in a world that history created... is there even a way to verify what's true or not when we're in a dimension divorced from that context?

This is what I get for being a recluse for a while. Outta the loop, no idea where to start when it comes to establishing a niche. How'd you figure that stuff out?

You mean the theme, or how to implement it?

Kinda a bit of both, I guess? I'm not really the kinda guy to stick to one type, so the easy option's out the window already. But I also don't wanna be redundant and pick a gimmick someone else already grabbed.

[Heh. It's what he gets for dragging his feet, really. Now he's gotta factor in the existing gyms.]

Well in our case, we wanted to offer a challenge that really tested a challenger's knowledge not just of the various Pokemon types, but how a team can be used to work together. The best way to do that was then to control the options for what Pokemon could be used in the first place, though we did have a backup plan in case the League didn't approve the original idea.

As for the gym itself, it seemed appropriate to have it be in keeping with the theme of acquiring and using that knowledge, and we thought it would be worthwhile to establish a library as well as space that anyone utilize to train and learn. Which is why it's modeled after an academy of sorts.

Sure sounds a lot more interesting than some of the other gyms. But how do you guys handle that kinda control? Is it certain types? Levels?
