AETHER VS. ULTRA
Who: The Aether Foundation, the Ultra Beasts, and YOU!
Where: Aether Headquarters on the Sevii Islands.
When: October 30th-31st, immediately after the Emergency News Bulletin
Summary: Showdown at the Aether HQ! The Ultra Beasts have found what they were looking for...
Rating: PG for action violence.
Log:
If there's one thing that can be said about several weeks straight of chaos, it's made the general response-time of rescue teams and emergency services across Johto and Kanto alike extremely quick. Within moments of the urgent news bulletin regarding the Aether HQ going live, relief efforts start taking off from every feasible point. With volunteers eager towatch the Aether Foundation go down in flames help any way they can hopping on board with the rescue forces, aid is coming, and fast.
... But not as fast as them.
At the exact moment of the broadcast, almost as though heralded by some unknown frequency, every Ultra Beast in land, sea, or sky drops whatever they're doing and turns their heads (or... headlike appendages, in most cases) to the south. And then they'll take off, pausing ONLY if they happen to have befriended a human or two over the weeks. These ones will gesture-- beckoning, dancing, even dabbing (because you KNOW at least one person taught one to dab)-- anything at all that they may have picked up throughout the month in order to communicate with the "aliens" they've met in this world.
Wherever they're headed, they want their strange allies to come with them.
And, if their invitation is accepted, they will sweep a trainer or two right off their feet and shoot off for the Sevii Islands.
_______
The temporary Aether Foundation HQ, a rather advanced building considering it went up in a matter of weeks after they first arrived that year-and-a-half-or-so ago, sits on the water's edge with its floating Pokemon sanctuary (which many consider to be the Foundation's crown jewel) neatly attached.
It's normally a pretty peaceful place, with volunteers coming and going as they please. While no small amount of property damage and general chaos has gone down on the mainland over the course of October, at no point had the marauding Beasts launched a concentrated, or indeed deliberate-seeming, attack against any one location at all.
This is clearly no longer the case.
An explosion sends billowing smoke (and a fancy white golf-cart) high into the air above the palm trees surrounding the building. Local islanders and wild Pokemon spill onto the beach to escape what has seemingly become an all-out warzone between Aether agents and Ultra Beasts of all shapes and sizes...
But while there is definitely fighting going on, taking a closer look will tell anyone that the Beasts are focused mainly on the building... and not just destroying it, either. The battering they're delivering seems to be with the intent to find a way inside, only stopping to attack humans and Pokemon who try to get in the way.
But why?
What's in there?
Whatever it is... those Aether agents who haven't already fled aren't keen to let anyone, human or Ultra Beast, too close!

OTA
[Shadowmaru is not here for a fight. He's notoriously terrible at them, when it comes to his pokemon. He's much more comfortable being the one to fight, then let someone else do it for him. Though, really. He's unable to keep from venturing to the Islands to help.]
[His dogs are with him -- a Growlithe and a Rockruff. They're the ones running around, trying to lead the smaller, frightened pokemon to safety. The ones who may be guiding the volunteers toward the exits.]
So much for some simple tricks and treats, hm?
[His hair is tied back. His clothes far more muted than his usual flashy attire. An angry looking Venipede sticks to his shoulder.]
[An Aether employee appears to be resisting evacuation, despite the pokemon with them following Shadowmaru's Rockruff along willingly. So, Shadowmaru, who looks to be more leg than anything, darts behind them, catching up their arm and shoving them forward before they have a chance to protest.]
Come now, come now! Your guests are growing tired of waiting! They're bringing down the house!
[Do you help him? Or ask him what the hell he's doing.]
wildcard;
[For the most part, Shadowmaru's going to be helping with evacuation. He will need help in a fight, so, if you want to thread out something like that, go for it! His pokemon roster is here!]
EVACUATION
[He'll just help out with this.]
[The moment he sees Shadowmaru helping, he calls out to him.] Shadowmaru! Over here!
[And then Hank quickly starts making his way from 'over here' to 'over there', supply of rescue pokemon trailing.]
You need some back up, big guy? I figure the other fighters got this. [And Hank has his heavy-hitting rescuers. They can carry them as needed.] I can help be your escort.
no subject
Officer! [It's said with the most cheerful of smiles. Which is... odd. Considering the situation. But on the other hand, Shadowmaru's the one who wears glitter as a common accessory, so.] Coming!
[He ends up having to drag the Aether employee with him, since the unfortunate person seems to want to bolt.]
I wouldn't say no. Some of these people have very strange ideas of safety.
no subject
[If he heard they were 'volunteers', he'd honestly doubt it. Volunteers might run into danger, but this is firefighter level volunteering and these guys are not at that level of training. They're casual, if anything.]
[He reaches out to help Shadowmaru drag his new friend.]
Come on! You'll feel better if you sleep it off!
[Tubbs stands protectively over the Rockruff and Growlithe, ready to defend them if necessary.]
no subject
[There's humor in the question. Like he's about to laugh as he asks it. The gravity of the situation does not seem to faze the AI in the least. On the outside, anyway.]
[Venipede chatters, waggling its antennae threateningly at the Aether mook. Scooting to Shadowmaru's other shoulder to better antagonize the person. It seems to share Hank's opinion.]
Perhaps they simply adore pokemon this much.
[Growlithe wiggles out ahead, determined to stand on her own. But Rockruff doesn't seem to mind Tubb's assistance.]
no subject
Come on, it's for the best. [Hank assures the guy.] It's a bad situation out there and we need to know what's going on.
[Though, honestly, with all the sporadic giant alien pokemon and the wild-ass surprisingly strong things he's surprised, it really seems like Aether should have been more honest to keep this from happening. This isn't a place where secrets matter all that much.]
[When they get to the doors, Luann nudges one of them open.]
We gotta get these guys to go to the nearest pokecenter. It's gonna be hectic but they're getting trashed out here.
no subject
[After all, maybe they thought the general populace were more like Shadowmaru himself. Not accomplished battle veterans.]
[Shadowmaru's Growlithe grabs the man's jacket hem. Tugging him toward the door and outside. There's a few firm, muffled barks. But it looks like she's got this one handled.]
Perhaps if we collect more of these individuals, my team can shepherd them to safety.
no subject
[That's a good idea, though.] I'm down. [He'll absolutely help Shadowmaru drag these fuckin' idiots out of here. They're going to get their asses beat (their pokemon too) if they insist on safety.]
Hate to suggest it but- [He lets go as the Growlithe takes over.] -think it might be easier just to hogtie them until they're outside.
[He pulls Connie out of his pocket. She beams happily at Shadowmaru, despite the obvious chaos happening inside and the uneasy feelings around. Hello! Guess what tiny demon being is fearless.]
She's got vinewhip.
no subject
[Or maybe the volunteers are just THAT determined. He doesn't know. It just seems best to get the people somewhere safe before they decide to launch themselves more into the fray than before.]
[If they stick around, they might be injured, too.]
Hog... tie? [Well there's a new term. He gives the older man an incredulous look, once he clarifies via Vine Whip.]
That cannot possibly be legal.
no subject
[Without having to knock them out.]
[Man the Jennies are probably going to be fed up with the entire lot of them after this fucking mess, aren't they? Oh well.]
Maybe they got some potions around here we can help out with. I keep some on me for my rescue work. Not a whole lot, but I could patch up a couple that had it especially bad.
no subject
[Or Shadowmaru just got yanked along for the ride by his over-eager bug. How a Venipede managed to do that, we will never know. Or ask.]
[He can't be arrested he has a spotless record!]
I see. I'll attempt to ... scrounge for supplies among the fallen, or detained.
no subject
[But he's a little charmed that Shadowmaru has a fear of an arrest record.]
Don't worry, I think we can make a run for it when the po-po shows up. [He jokes wryly as he pulls out some of his potions and a couple of hyper potions. He should probably hang onto those. He tucks those away again, and gives three potions to Shadowmaru out of his personal stock. It'll be enough to get some pokemon fit to leave.]
no subject
[Of course he's concerned. When an AI goes rogue, when it stops following the law... nothing good happens to them.]
[He's seen it. First hand.]
Hysterical, thank you. [He'd find it funnier about literally any other topic. But accepts the potions, regardless.] You're certain you won't need these?
no subject
[He knows about rogue AIs fearing their doom. He lays off 'cause that concern looks very real, and would understand if he knew the fear.]
I won't. Hold onto 'em and we'll probably find some more while we're at it.
no subject
[But he still sounds uncertain. Chewing at his lip slightly. Maybe it is something he should talk about sometime. But for now, no. He'll just put it aside.]
Perhaps in some abandoned cabinet, hm?
[Time to round up some more Aether goons.]
no subject
[He sees at least one that seems more concerned with his already beaten pokemon than with staying to fight.]
Here, that one seems ready to go. [He points over at them, cradling a battered Wingull.]
no subject
[He's glad of a change in subject, anyway. Moving fairly quickly around any fallen debris. There's something he didn't lose in his human transformation.]
[And loops an arm around the agent, starting to usher them forward.]
Come, come. The exit is this way -- should you become lost... Follow the Venipede!
[Who leaps from his shoulder, chomping gently on the agent's shoe to tug them forward.]
no subject
Come on, come on. If you ride the Arcanine he can get you to the Pokecenter. I trust him to make it.
[He won't be using Tubbs to fight here today. He might as well have him on rescue duty.]
Your little buddy there looks like he had the fight taken out of him.
no subject
[He chimes in when the volunteer seems a little less than thrilled at the idea of leaving... but relents.]
[... Shadowmaru once again reins in his Venipede.]
May we offer a potion in this trying time?
