Maya | Borderlands | OTA

[Maya is just having a blast now that her powers are back. Sure it's a limited time thing but still. You can find her around in a few places as wandering is strange during these weekends.]

A. Lessons

[There is a random pokemon, it is currently being held inside a bubble. Maya stands in front of it with her arm up and her tattoos glowing. Her pokemon are next to her. They seem to be mostly psychic ones and are all listening to her closely.]

Now you see, you concentrate on the control going through you. Not enough that you'll be too distracted to see another hit coming but just enough that you don't lose it.

[At least she's being educational?]

B. New bugs

[New snow pokemon are everywhere so you can find her around, looking at them.]

I wonder if these ones will stay.

[Korra is immediately interested in whatever it is Maya's doing. She knows the other woman has some kind of powers in her own world, they've talked about it a little, but she never asked for any details.]

That looks really cool! Whatcha doing?

[Maya lets the pokemon go and the creature flees before her pokemon can attack it. The tattoos on her arm stop glowing the moment the bubble vanishes.]

Hey. My powers are back so I'm having some fun with them and passing along some tips I've learnt when it comes to controlling weird mind powers.

[There's a small group of psychic type pokemon around her. A Meowstic, a Beheeyem, a Sigilyph and a Lunatone with a small Blipbug sitting on it. They have been enjoying the lesson.]

Yeah, that's the best part about these weekends!

[Grinning, Korra holds out her hands, palms up, and with a quick gesture bursts of flame appear in each.]

I do the same kinda thing! With my Pokemon who have elemental based abilities, like me.

It really is.

[She's getting used to not having them all the time, but these moments are always freeing.]

That's right, you've told me you have elemental powers. They must enjoy those. Mine seem to.

Oh yeah, we always have a lot of fun on these weekends. A lot of my Pokemon are elemental types.

[Which hadn't been something Korra planned on, exactly, it just sort of happened.]

So what else can you do?

My main power is Phaselocking. Even though it looks like I'm keeping an opponent in a bubble here. They're actually locked in another dimension. I can leech their health from them, cause additional damage, draw other people towards the trapped person, or cause them damage by various means.

Or I can just hold them in place.

Whoah, that's...that's some serious next level energy bending.

[Korra blinks, eyes wide. I mean, it's scary what Maya can apparently do, but also...really cool, in a purely theoretical sense.]

I wonder if I could do something like that. I can bend energy, in my Avatar State.

Possibly? I don't really know what I'm doing myself. It's just my siren power. In my universe all sirens have a unique power they can activate.

For example, Lilith can phasewalk. So she can walk through things, people. She's also been able to teleport people and places recently. I can't do that and she can't phaselock people.

I get what you mean. My powers manifested really early, and I only had a teacher for water bending when I was really little. But I just sort of...figured out fire and earth on my own.

[And then finally got training as she grew older, but for a while, it had all been intuitive.]

And I'm the first Avatar to energy bend, so that's...pretty much just me working it out as I go, to. But I definitely can't teleport people.

Are teachers for fire and earth harder to find in your world?

Working it out as you go along is something I'm used to. I had training for most of my life from the Order that I was given to as an infant. But...again, siren. They were as confused about what I was doing as anyone else.

Uh...where I grew up, yeah.

[Easiest way to put it.]

It's kind of a long story, for my 'own safety' I couldn't leave the place I grew up until I was sixteen. And there weren't exactly a bunch of fire and earth benders in the tundra.

[That gets a significant pause and she asks the next part carefully.]

Was...it actually for your own safety or just what they wanted you to think?

[Sorry that kind of hits incredibly close to home is all.]

It was, even if I don't think that was the best way to do it. Oh, there were absolutely people trying to get me since I was tiny. Not that...anybody bothered to tell me for a decade or so....

[The main point of contention Korra had with the whole thing.]

But it wasn't some creepy thing, my parents and teachers and everything were trying to keep me safe.

That's good to hear. Even if it could have been handled better.

Mine turned out to be the incredibly creepy, we lied about everything we told you. Also we've been using your very existence to scare an entire planet into obeying us.
