[The video is actually
a little dark, kind of stuttery, like Botan is broadcasting from somewhere with a spotty signal.
And actually, she is, she's in the Goldenrod Underground, in front of an empty stall where a little...thing is sitting looking quite pleased with itself.]
I.
[The screen isn't actually stuttering this time, Botan is genuinely at a loss for words.]
He just...jumped into the teapot...when the woman was here. And she demanded money. And now she's gone.

M-my dex says this is a Polteageist.
[Well, so?]
I had a dream about this exact thing, I thought our abilities were nerfed when we got here?!
[Yes she just said "nerfed" when she meant "gotten rid of" like a nerd that plays video games, because she is one on the down low, but leave her alone she's in a state of shock.]
...Er. Sorry. Happy February?
[The Polteageist waves its little arms in agreement, yes, happy February!]

That looks like a Class II roaming animator, from how it seems to be possessing that tea pot. I've never seen such a creature before--it seems like it's come with the wave of "new" Pokémon that have been appearing throughout the region. What other behavior have you observed from this spirit?
[There's the barest hint of excitement in his voice, which is the Egon equivalent of him practically jumping up and down in his seat. Ah, the thrill of discovering new species and types of ghosts in a new dimension!]
Does that mean the PokéDex already had its classification and name when you took it out?
[SUP EGON. She waves and the Polteageist mimics the movement.]
Before I came down here, my little ghost enjoyed jumping around from cup to cup at my shop, then he moved onto jumping into my teapots. It was a little like a hermit crab trying to find a suitable shell for itself as a home? And yes, the PokeDex had no issue with recording what it was and telling me, whoever does the software seems to be more on the ball than we realize.
[Egon leans closer towards the screen, trying to see as many details as he can.]
Have you seen the poltergeist inhabit any other objects beyond tea cups and tea pots? If not, then this particular species must be inclined towards ceramic objects for some reason.

[At Egon's inspection, Polteageist sort of makes a face and bubbles up.
Quite like an offended crab.]
Don't be rude, he's a doctor. --Anyway, I'm sure his offspring might have different traits.
do you ever. forget. you have a thread
[He means that in a genuine way, despite his completely flat delivery. He raises an eyebrow, watching the Polteageist's behavior.]
You've been here for some time, yes? How often have you seen these waves of newly discovered Pokémon? It seems that there was one a few years back, as well.
I have been there way way way more times than I can count gkdjlfg adhd life
[It's a lot of information but it's not like Botan has ever hid that she's a chatterbox anyway!]
I guess I can say for sure Arceus likes playing games with us.
video
[Like "Rockruff" isn't. Like so, so many aren't.]
You have a little ghost friend, that's so cool~. What're you gonna name him?
video
Oh yes~ a lot of Pokemon names are! It's fun trying to figure out what each one means!
[talk about a mood shift, okay then!]
I haven't decided yet, I suppose I could call him "Yuukicha" since, well, "yuu" sounds like ghost.
[As if literally naming your tea ghost "organic green tea" isn't dorky as hell already.]
no subject
And it's a teapot, so that's a huge bonus. ☆ I just named my partner after my dog from home. She's just like him too, it's crazy~.
no subject
[Botan has been in Johto for six years and here she is talking like it's still brand new, for pity's sake.]
I have...quite a few ghosts, so while they can be cute in their own way they're certainly not on the level of a dog.
no subject
Subaru'll let his Rockruff at the PokéGear though, letting her sniff and paw at it until she sees A Person and her fluffy tail wags.]
This kind! A Rockruff, it called her? Her name's Daikichi. Do you like ghosts, or do you just attract them?
no subject
Aww, hello Dai-chan! What a sweetie. I believe her kind was introduced fairly recently--she actually hails from some lovely islands and can evolve differently depending on the time of day.
[Just, you know, Ms. Encyclopedia.]
Mmm...it's a little bit of both, I guess? I don't mind them at all and they're somewhat my job, I acted as a medium back in my own world.
no subject
GONNA GET BACK TO DAIKICHI IN A SECOND because he wants to ask about the evolutions but first.]
That's so cool!! Have you ever been possessed before?
[Because that's what happens in movies.]
no subject
Not quite, ghosts can only "possess" a person in the way you understand it when someone is unconscious, depending on how powerful they are and how weak the vessel is. They can also only interact with most people through their dreams. It's just people like me that they can speak to directly and be seen by.
[Now, what she's saying is actually fact for her world, but there is a slight, very slight lie in there in that she isn't actually a human but what Subaru might understand as a shinigami, not that she will tell him that since it might very well destroy his perception of what shinigami look and act like. (After all, it did to Yusuke when she first met him!)]
The ones who can possess a person any time and actively control them aren't actually ghosts but demonic, which you should probably steer clear of. Troublesome little buggers like these Pokemon here, some of them can possess or control the minds of people, which leads me to believe they're more like youkai.
Actually, there's quite a number of ghost specialists here besides me, they're from America. [Yes the American part is novel enough to her to mention.] They might have some interesting stories, too, they've certainly mentioned a couple to me when we swapped experiences!
video;
It's a teapot.

[Goddammit.]

[Rimshot.]

How are things? Have you all been getting oolong over there?
no subject
Can't complain. Things are pretty brew-tea-ful here.
no subject
[Holy cupcakes, anniversary. That's so weird for her to think of.]
And we've been talking about getting our own place just, in between, so we can be less long distance.
no subject
Really? Botan, that's great! Congratulations! To everything!
no subject
[Botan it's been ten thousand years stop deflecting goddammit.]
...Actually, our anniversary is the same week as your wedding was. Shared anniversaries!
no subject
[Hahahaha...]
Really? Hey, how'd we pull that one off?
no subject
[If anybody did!!]
I'm not sure, honestly I didn't think we'd end up as friends either. I was certain you thought I was a weirdo, I mean not that it offended me, lots of people think that.
no subject
[Just gonna. Steer the subject away from himself.]
Hey, I'm not exactly completely normal, either.
no subject
Which means never. She just softly sighs, shaking her head a little.]
Actually, your hair, the white tuft, it reminded me a lot of a...not a friend, an ally of circumstance back at home. Except you were taller than him and had never threatened to murder me, so good sign that you were nicer.
...Also he was a demon so, no, in comparison to many people I knew at home, you're definitely normal.
no subject
Botan, I'm really not sure how I feel about being compared to someone who wanted to murder you.
no subject
[NOT REALLY?!]
And it's just the hair, nothing about your personality is like that little gremlin in any way.

Out of curiosity, did you happen to get the original Pokemon before it became a Polteageist from an egg that appeared around Christmastime?
no subject
[Polteageist still has that cute little smile going on, he is a very happy thing.]
no subject
[But just because it didn't happen to Jane doesn't mean it isn't a valid and interesting thing.]
I mean, there are already so many Pokemon that are actual objects, I'm not too surprised that food and drink can turn out to be an actual Pokemon too...
no subject
It had a tendency to hide in her coffee, I noticed, poor dear seemed startled.
[Poor Carly, indeed.]
It's very strange that new Pokemon are showing up again, I wonder if we'll see many more after this?
no subject
[Jane nods.] I don't think there's any doubt - if that's the pattern to how they arrive, then we're likely in to meet many more species soon!
vidya
[Adorable little ghost thing.]
And- they are, I think? Our powers.
[She definitely feels human again.]
Do your abilities- could a Pokemon not normally live in a little teapot without your powers?
[She is missing something.]
no subject
Oh, no sweetie, back in my own world I used to have premonitions and do fortunes.
[Well. She didn't actually have premonitions though she did tell fortunes, it's just easy to know what's going to happen when you have the roadmap of every human's life in your journal. Which she doesn't have, and shouldn't have, and shouldn't be having dreams like that.]
no subject
[Okay that makes a lot more sense.]
[Relatively.]
Maybe it was something to do with that weekend where everything got weird- ...er than usual?
no subject
Maybe so! It would explain why the name even came to mind, too. [Except no it really really wouldn't.]
