So this might sound a little bit weird, but....

Does anyone want to go on a treasure hunt?

[Korra is broadcasting from the beach - the one outside her home, specifically - and looks to have settled right back into island life.]

I found an old treasure map during prom, when I was poking around the spooky parts of the castle. And I compared it to some actual maps and...I'm pretty sure it's the real deal. There's an X marks the spot and everything.

I have no idea if it's guarded or hidden or booby trapped or anything, but that's half the fun. And I figure for one thing, it's a lot more fun to go on an treasure hunt with other people and two...I might need help getting to it.

So who's up for some good old fashioned adventure?

I don't know if I can spare the time to go on an adventure per say, but that map...does it have any landmarks that might indicate the area in which the treasure might be? Either way, that's an incredible find!

Yeah! I haven't traced out the exact route yet, but it's in Johto.

It really was! Poking around was worth it, I found a fossil, too.

Ooh, how lucky! I came up short on the discovery front myself, but it was an awfully big castle, so it's likely I was just looking in the wrong places.

Do you know what kind of fossil it is?

It looks like a turtle shell.

A turtle shell...hm, I don't know my fossils too well, but I have heard reviving them is a thing that is done. Have you considered doing so?

Oh yeah, I'm gonna get this revived. Seems kind of mean not to.

Hm...now that you say that, I do happen to have my own fossil that I never got around to reviving...maybe that should be my project this summer.

I dunno what we're in for, so be prepared for anything!

I think we can do that! Me and Connie are in Ecruteak right now, so she can challenge the Gym there, so it's not hard to Warp back! I need to Warp back anyway because I'm finally ready to challenge Bugsy and Falkner.

Maybe after we find the treasure I can go after Whitney.

I could bring my usual team? T-chan's fire, H-kun is grass and flying, Q-no is water and ground and being stupid, S-chan is a lightning lion and I can ride on him, R-ko is an esper and does fairy stuff now, and G-kun protects me from ghosts by punching them.

[Akane has an almost Rose Quartz sense of appropriate Pokemon names.]

Not to toot my own horn, but I'm fairly experienced with adventuring. [He literally just got back from an extended one but, yknow, more is always good. Being around people might do him good.] I'd be more than willing to come along.

Okay, it looks like we're getting a pretty good little expedition going here! We're gonna want to meet in Johto, so...Goldenrod?

Sensible. A hub city is easiest for everyone to get to and will probably have the best selection of supplies.

Not that I imagine we'll be dealing with anything too perilous. This universe isn't built that way.

That's what I figure, pretty much everybody can get to Goldenrod easy.

Hey, you never know! There could be puzzles and tough Pokemon set to guard the treasure! Which counts as perilous here.

Something like the Ruins of Alph, I imagine. If there's a large group of us then solving potential puzzles should go quickly.

This depends very strongly on the heads involved, but listen, let him believe.]

If you say so! That's usually the number of people going on an adventure in the movies.

I'm not sure...I was thinking everyone bring a pretty varied team, to try and cover everything.

I, um, mostly have elemental type Pokemon. Lots of water and fire.

I tend toward fairy, psychic and ghost types personally.

[He has a smattering of everything (except Electric), but he can admit to himself that he's developed a particular aesthetic as time has gone on.]

I know my Cofagrigus will want to be involved. She was an adventurer herself before, ah. Before she was a Pokémon.

So that's one.

And I'll definitely have my Arcanine and my Floatzel. Iqniq and Ra go pretty much everywhere with me.

I'm not sure about everybody else's teams.

If all five of us bring full teams of six, that's thirty Pokémon, which is half again the total number of types. Statistically it's likely we'll have some repeats considering the type distribution across all nine-hundred or so species is uneven, but we're also likely to have a wide spread just based on numbers alone.

[Which is a very over-complicated way of saying 'we probably don't have to coordinate it too hard.]

Speaking of numbers, would you believe that I've never met a Floatzel in person? In nearly four years here?

You're right. We should be pretty well set, I'm telling everyone to bring a varied team.

Well, now you'll get to! Ra works with me in the islands on lifeguard duty.

Ah! Is that what you do when you're not adventuring?

It's always fascinating to me the way there's almost always a Pokémon suited for a typically 'human' job. They're masters at finding a niche.

[bent_the_world]

Yeah, I live down on the islands. 'Lifeguard' doesn't cover everything I do, there's a lot of giving tourists information and taking them on nature hikes and boat tours, but plenty of actually pulling people out of the water.

It's amazing how many people come to the beach without knowing how to swim. But Floatzel is pretty perfect for water rescue, and plenty of them do it in the wild without training.

Honestly that doesn't surprise me. Humans are often phenomenally bad at self-preservation, particularly when having fun.

[He's speaking from decades of experience being a complete dumbass.]

And it gives you something to do! There's nothing worse than boring work.

They really, really do.

Ha, you're right about that! It took me a while to find something I liked and felt good doing, but I've been doing this for a couple of years now. And now that Botan moved in and we put an addition on the house, I'm not going anywhere else anytime soon.
