[Video]
[This video thing isn't much different from using the stones of far speech, just with... video capabilities. This is fine, it's fine. But Johann's fiddling around a bit to set the gear up somewhere so it can get a good shot of him and... that's a lapras behind him in the water.
Don't question it.]
So, like. I get the gist of what's going on, I guess. These Pokemon or whatever. But I have a genuine question about this thing behind me [he's just gesturing to said lapras who's just seeming pleased as punch] what the hell does it eat? Gotta say the last sea creature with magical powers I dealt with ate some stuff I'd rather not talk about.
[He's just holding up a paper, it... that's some kind of musical composition, sure.] Stuff like this, mind you. And I just want to make sure that's not it ag-[He suddenly gets cut off by the lapras leaning over and snatching half that page into her mouth.
Johann, uh. Looks mightily concerned and immediately taking several huge steps towards the gear and away from the creature.]
You cannot be fucking serious right now. [He's grabbing the gear to quickly turn it off, at least. Oops.]

Re: voice
This is the first time she's tried to eat any paper! [Wait, right, no. Calm down. It's... probably fine.]
Between her and the... newer ones that have come along, I'm starting to wonder if I'm just cursed with brightly colored hyperactive... things.
Re: voice
video;
...Well, 'twould seem the beast has answered your query for us, hm? [Jokes aside, he finds it interesting the man had sheet music, and in the wake of its untimely demise he cannot help but ask:] Forgive my forwardness, but perchance might you be a bard?
video;
I doubt she eats paper. Or, well, I'd hope she doesn't. [Otherwise that's a hell of a problem he's not looking forward to dealing with. Though at the question, he raises a brow slowly. Though it's not... judging or anything, just not a whole lot of emotion to be put into much of anything.]
Was my trade before I got here, yeah. Can't be much of a bard without an instrument and my singing voice isn't really... up to the task of taking on that kind of work. Why?
video;
She certainly would need to eat quite a lot of it, considering her size. [If he hazarded a guess, he'd peg her for a wavekin eater, but he doesn't offer that. It'd be far too useful.]
Merely a fan of the musical arts. Pity you are without your instrument—which is your preferred?
video;
You'd be surprised. [He's not offering more than that.]
Can't take shit with you when you die, I guess. Primarily violin, though I also was pretty good with a lyre and lute as well. I was pretty much the greatest violinist basically ever back home. Can back that shit up, too. [God. Which makes being here all the worse in hindsight. Given his expression goes from slightly interested to a little more than baseline depressed looking.]
Had a gorgeous rosewood violin, too. A right fucking shame that didn't get to come along with me.
video;
My condolences, I cannot imagine it's easy suffering your demise to only be brought here. Particularly to be robbed of your earthly treasures. My truest sympathies.
[His expression seems genuine and solemn as he states such.]
Mayhap there is yet hope, I cannot imagine this world bereft of instruments in which you might indulge your craft. If you desire it, I shall keep an eye out for aught of the sort for you?
[How...uncharacteristically generous... Certainly not suspicious for someone who doesn't know him, but for someone who does...]
video;
Well, it wasn't really suffering. Despite... everything, really, at least I got some sort of legacy in the end and helped where I could. Kinda sucks that it happened after I got kicked into the astral plane, but it's better than I thought I'd get. [Which was to be completely forgotten and that's really it. Beggars can't be choosers and all that.]
... Wait. You'd do that? Like, I appreciate it and all but usually someone wants something in return when they offer something like that. I can probably figure out most instruments, that's kind of a given with the whole bard business, but still...
video;
All the same, 'tis a tragedy, but I am glad to know you have something of a legacy to leave behind. Ever does that help the soul make peace, I've found.
[Hm, odd comment, but with how he continues on, who knows if it was purposeful of not. Regardless, he smiles at him.]
As for the instrument: yes. I require no payment beyond the privilege of hearing your masterful talents at work. Surely that is a fair bargain, yes?
Re: video;
Got yourself a deal on that end, sounds pretty weighted in my favor. [An audience and an instrument? Yeah, he's here for that shit. And is pretty easy to win favor with, obviously.]
Johann, by the way.
video;
[As he says such, he gives a polite bow of his head.]
As for our arrangement, there is little limit to the value of fine music—particularly when we are made to suffer the constant and monotonous melody this world produces. If you can do aught at all to spare me even a moment of its tedium, I would ever be in your debt.

That's. Certainly a thing.
Please do pardon this mid-20's dude boggling at what he just saw.
Ugh. It shouldn't even surprise him. His own team have eaten some weird stuff before.
Cue a sympathetic sigh, as Riku rubs one of his temples.]
Okay, for what it's worth, you might be able to bribe it with berries. Otherwise... hm. Maybe you could find some kind of scent or fragrance to keep it away from your work? Though with paper, that might be a bit rough...
[Wouldn't want to damage the pages, anyway.]

Even if his default state seems to just be...
Kind of depressed.
It's probably fine.]
There's ways around destroying paper depending on what the form of the scent is. People do it for letters and such all the time, it's just... finding what might deter her. Can't say I had much luck with that kind of shit before, you know?
bah, sorry about being late here- RL (and mostly) work got kinda hectic
[Oh! Lightbulb. Riku snaps his fingers as a recollection hits.]
Maybe you could pick up some Repel in the next town over. I forget if they sell it in Cherrygrove, but that stuff works like a charm as a Pokemon deterrent.

Though he has to bite his lip when the Lapras leans over and chomps down on the paper. It's clear this one is still pretty young, and Armin knows all about the weird things they will eat at that age.]
If It is any comfort, I think your Lapras was acting more out of curiosity than actual hunger. When they are young, they'll try eating almost anything.
[His fond expression grows a bit more serious.]
They are omnivorous to some degree, but the bulk of their diet in the wild is made up of plants -- seaweed, kelp, that sort of thing. They aren't particularly picky about the marine plants they eat. Of course, they will also eat the poke-feed that you can get in the store, but you'll need to make sure you get one with a high mineral content to support healthy shell growth. I can recommend you some brands, if you want.

And...
That's a lot of information, what the hell.]
You got experience with these kinds of creatures, then? Last time I dealt with a weird magical sea creature it was more... jellyfish in nature, so something more tangible and with eyes is kind of a new thing in general.
At least she's more willing to help me out than the other one was. Or, well, more capable of doing so with the whole surviving out of water thing.
Marine plants and poke-feed... [It's more muttered to himself than anything else, just committing that to memory.]
I mean, I guess I'll take the recommendations? Not like I know what in the five hundred hells I'm doing, after all.

[So yes, he's got some experience.]
Really, they are wonderful pokemon. They are incredibly smart and kind. And their songs are beautiful.
[Just... don't listen to their perish song.]
I'll compile a list and send it to you as soon as I have it.
