Believe me when I say I was equally confounded by the arrangement when I arrived. They do seem like a bit of an odd couple, do they not? However, that had been the standing arrangement for some time, even all those months ago.

Now, it might be presumptuous of me to ask you this, but is that the only reason you messaged me about this matter?

[Hunk's just going to casually sidestep the entire first part of that message. Mostly because he's still not entirely sure what to think about the situation, and because he knows he sometimes has a habit of putting his foot in his mouth.]

Not quite. And it occurred to me as soon as I sent that first message that maybe this isn't really a text-appropriate conversation, but you're the first person I thought of, so here we are.
