[The setting: Violet City. Estinien is near the gym, flanked by his Bronzor and his Vibrava, and his Vulpix draped around his shoulders like a furry scarf, which would be infinitely less tolerable in the late spring heat if she wasn't an ice type. His travel companions might also be lurking in the background.

He glances back at the gym, looking thoughtful. His first gym battle was a success, but there's something he can do now that...he actually needs help with.]

Succeeding in the challenge against the Violet City gym allows one to teach a capable Pokemon to fly, yet it requires a...machine? To do so.

[The question can be heard in his voice, he's really not sure how a machine will help this situation, but...]

Wouldst any in Goldenrod have access to said machine and be willing to allow me use of it? We shall be returning there by the end of the week.

Actually, yes, I got it a while ago, I live in Goldenrod.

And congratulations on your win, as well.

Well, well! What an intriguing turn of events! Allow me to be the first to congratulate you, Dragoon. Keep up the good work!

[Is he happy that Estinien got his badge, or is he just glad that this means they're not too far off? Either way, he seems rather chipper!]

Say, I do know of someone who recently got their hands upon such a machine, a mutual acquaintance of ours, as it turns out.

[Luckily Isis has gotten very adept at translating their particular turns of phrase. As much as they dislike Solus, he was good for that much.]

It's not really necessary. HMs, Hidden Machines, have no upper limit to the times they can be used. It's no skin off my back to lend it to you for the minutes it'll take to learn.

[He knows he likely wasn't actually the first, but that doesn't mean he won't claim it.]

Yes, your little creatures. Yet you are the one commanding them. It's all the same, regardless. Nevertheless, indeed I do, one must keep up with current affairs if they hope to accomplish aught at all. A skill you could benefit from learning.

Anyroad, Steven has recently obtained such a machine, and with how well the two of you got on...

[He doesn't sound annoyed, you sound annoyed!]

Well, it would stand to reason he may be more than glad to assist you.

While someone really should stop volunteering other people for things, especially when those other people don't even like him...

... it's true that I did get my Fly HM from Chuck and I'd be more or less pleased to use it to teach your Pokemon the move in question. Unless you'd rather go with Tyler.

Oh, my apologies, here I was under the impression you are overjoyed when it comes to helping others. Perchance I had been mistaken.

Ah, well Tyler is the far better option. If he wishes to assist you, then by all means seek his company.

[He knew Tyler's Pokémon could fly, but he absolutely had to pull that dick move in volunteering Steven. Openly and publicly.]

Mmm, a purely mortal issue, that. Glad am I all the same that we need not waste such time and energy.

[Who needs aether currents when you can just fly or teleport goddamn anywhere!

Just because I like helping people doesn't mean I want you volunteering me.

It does, though it's a different shift than my old one. I used to do eight-to-noon on the reception's desk and now I'm noon-to-six in the newsroom. I like it better, actually--I'm naturally more of a night-owl than an early riser.

[He hadn't always been but... it was kind of a Darkling thing. Even if he was fully human again.]

Tyler used to work longer hours than me, but he's scaled back a lot in preparation for Fight Club.

It's a club that Tyler and I are opening up soon, with Jack's help and backing. Uh, the upstairs is just going to be a fighting pokemon themed dive bar, but there's going to be a place for people to have physical brawls downstairs, where the Jennies can't see and disapprove.

We're calling it Fight Club as a nod to its true nature--since there's a movie from our world by the same name about these guys who set up a club for people to have fistfights for fun in basements.

[Solus has been pre-banned from the premises.]

It's a device that teaches the Pokemon the proper technique to use that particular move, though I admit I'm still at a loss as to why they call it a 'machine'.

That said, I imagine you can find someone with it easily enough, though you can also win it for yourself by defeating another of the gym leaders.

*he has it himself, of course, but being a gym leader means he probably shouldn't offer to teach it to just anyone, or something*

They do.

[He says almost proudly.]

But this has naught to do any perceived pettiness, after all, they do not dislike you, yes? If they are to deny you merely because it was I who had mentioned them in such a capacity, then 'tis not my pettiness you should worry yourself with.

[He shrugs.]

Regardless, I know I am lacking in such abilities, and the benefits of such means of travel. Mayhap I will eventually pursue such, but for now I am far too busy.

[And he has you, Estinien.]

So petty. 'Tis all the same in the end, is it not? You get ample people to assist to embolden that ego of yours, whether or not they were sent your way by me matters little.

This world does seem to run entirely on its own peculiar logic, yes. Though for that matter, congratulations on your gym victory, as well. Do you plan to challenge the others, as well?

Oh you wound me, Dragoon. I have naught more in my mind than simply sending you off towards those who are possessed that which you seek. That such persons are both Tyler and Steven are naught more than coincidence.

[Which is...surprisingly true. Well, true enough.]

But worry not, I do not plan to abuse your generosity, nor will it go unrewarded.

[He has a little gift for you once you've delivered Hythlodaeus to him!]
