[pursuit]

[ What first appears on the feed is a teenage boy's face, expression set in a thoughtful frown as he evidently fiddles with his device. At least, that's what one is left to assume as his hands appear to be moving just out of frame. What's most prominent, however, is the black spade set over his right eye.

Distracting as that might be, it's certainly not what Deuce intends to talk about as he props his gear up and angles it just so, revealing a small, floating cream-colored creature behind him. Just for emphasis, he points right at it. ]

This thing isn't really cream, is it? I don't know any spells that could do something like that. [ He pauses, bringing a hand to his chin as he considers this. ] I mean, I've heard of bread-and-butterflies, but... Just cream, with a face...?

[ The more he thinks about it, the more puzzled he seems, brows knitting together in confusion. ]

[The cream behind him looks adorable. Too cute to eat, really.]

I think it might be a Pokémon. Mine is, well, this.

[He shows off Gum the Goomy with the camera, though it takes a while for it to focus since Malleus doesn't know how to do it. The Pokémon just looks up, then goes back to being stationary on Malleus' legs.]

You thought it wasn't me?

[ That's cause for evident puzzlement on Deuce's face... Though it would be there regardless, as he takes in the sight of Malleus bereft of horns. It doesn't look natural, seeing him without them, and he's struck by the impression that his head looks quite bare in the absence of those features.

The gooey creature on his schoolmate's lap is, thus, a welcome distraction from what would otherwise be some incredibly overt gawking. ]

I've never heard of it before, but this device I got said something about them too.

That and some strange woman claimed to be my mom.

[ He might look just a little offended by this in particular.

Sure, he's not the best in academics, but he absolutely knows his own mother's face. ]

Not seeing your face made me--

[Wait, mom?]

So someone pretended to be your mother too?

[Does that mean they're in the same place? Malleus looks around, without moving from his sitting position.]

By any chance... Are you in New Bark Town?

[pursuit]

Someone really-

[ Someone tried to pull something like that with Malleus?

Especially in a place where horns were removed by some unknown force... Deuce can't help but find it unsettling. ]

I think that's what the sign said...

[ He glances over his shoulder, at some unseen point behind him. ]

[tsunotarou]

We're in the same place.

[Malleus actually looks around. Maybe he's after the tall grass?]

There's a tree near the tall grass, can you see it?

We are!?

[ Just... Just give him a moment, it actually hadn't occurred to him that this could be the case. ]

[pursuit]

[ But okay, right, a tree...

Deuce glances around, and the way his eyes light up in recognition, yes, he must have spotted- ]

I think I see it!

[ Sure there's a building in the way, but he sees a tree and some tall grass. ]

I'm sitting right under it.

[With his Gum the Goomy on his legs, stationary.]

[pursuit]

Oh- in that case, I'll come meet you then.

[ And so the scenery behind him will begin to move, his odd, creamy creature drifting along behind him. ]

[Malleus wonders why Spade decided to leave the video on as he moves, but it's not too bad, considering he can see where the other is pretty well.]

Turn left there, you'll see me.

Oh, is it a Milcery? I had one before it evolved into Alcremie!

[pursuit]

That'd what this gadget I've got called i-

[ Wait, hold on a second... ]

Did you just say evolve? Doesn't that kind of thing take a long time?

[ Sure he's behind in school, but he thinks he knows this. ]

Oh wow, you're really new, Uh...

Evolution, with Pokemon, it's really sudden and happens all at once. Sometimes it's when they reach a certain level, or if they're really happy, or if you give them an item. They turn into an entirely different Pokemon!

[pursuit]

Wait, seriously?

[ There's no helping it, he looks genuinely shocked because he is, goggle-eyed and everything. ]

What kind of magic can do that?

It feels like magic, right? But that's just how Pokemon work. Nobody here finds it odd at all.

[pursuit]

But if it's not magic, how's that even possible?

[ He glances over his shoulder toward Milcery as he speaks, his tone making evident that he's pondering this deep mystery for whatever little good it will do him. ]

[forsaintcecilia]

Hmm... I think there's some deep research on the subject somewhere, but I've never looked at any of it. You'd have to ask someone more bookish.

I mean, you could think of it as magic and it probably wouldn't matter very much!

[pursuit]

Huh...

[ It's not like he's a great academic himself, so he's the last person to give anyone a hard time for not knowing something. ]

Guess they're sort of the only magic in this world then. Mine sure isn't working.

...Bread-and-butterflies?

[Cue one skeptical look from this young man- 25 after spending a decade in this weird world.

After a pause, he adds.]

...Y'know, with all the other weird creatures around here, maybe that's not so weird after all.

[pursuit]

You h- [ Deuce starts to ask, only to halt himself. It shouldn't be that surprising amid everything else. ] There're stories about them in my home country. A dog with a broom for a face, too, even.

[ Which still sounds pretty useful to him. ]

Guess they don't have anything like that around here, huh?

[Man, that sounds stupid. So silly, in fact, that Riku briefly covers his face with his hand. ]

Heh. Guess it depends. We've got living trashbags and keys, so it's not like a broom dog's that outta the ordinary. Just not the first thing that pops into my head is all. But I've heard enough about other worlds to know that we can't just expect every one to make sense.

Heck, one of my best friends was a talking unicorn before she came here.

[ That's a lot to digest, and Deuce isn't quite sure how to parse some of it. He opens his mouth to ask what the guy means, but the sentence lodges somewhere in his throat at the mention of a unicorn.

Now that right there? That's got his attention. ]

Really? Did she lose her horn, too? [ He asks so hastily he almost doesn't catch himself, but he does with some delay. ] Er, this guy from my school's here, his horns are just...gone.

[ He gestures with his free hand, pointing right over his head, in a gesture that seems far more like he's miming rabbit ears than anything else. ]

Lost all her horse-like traits. Only thing she kept was the purple hair.

[He snickers, tugging on a lock of his own hair.]

But I guess here, that's not so weird. Definitely not any weirder than silver.

[He pauses.]

Sucks about the horns, though. You'd think something that minor could stick around- could easily just pass it as a costume.

I guess he'd...sort of stand out. Personally, I find it a lot more distracting that his horns are just gone.

[ The guy looks bare, not that he'd say that. Might make him feel worse about the whole thing. ]

Seems like they don't get injured, at least. Had me worried at first.
