[For those who happen to check into this particular Pokegear feed, they'll find a... bit of a mess at first. It's the awkward fumbling glitch of a person who has never used technology: random noises, constantly shifting camera views, going from selfie mode to camera mode... a mess! But eventually, after a few minutes of this mess, the scene finally stabilizes...]

[To a view of a video game loading screen. To be exact, Misty Mendacity.]

[After another second, a smaller screen pops up in the corner of the video - the camera of the Pokegear that's streaming this whole mess. And it's not a person, despite the name attached to this Pokegear being "Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd". Rather, it's.. a Rattata.]

[Yes, someone's Pokemon has learned how to use it before the actual owner.]

[Yes, a purple rat is streaming what the kids call a "let's play".]

[The head of a rather skeptical Shinx joins the Rattata as the game starts, leading through the opening scene with an ominous Mismagius explaining the story, and then the first level starts off with what looks like a hotel and way too much Aipom imagery scattered about. It seems to play sort of like a 3D Pacman, for those familiar with that game...]

[And, also, you know, murderous looking Aipom animatics with enormous teeth that lead to a jump scare and "death" screen.]

[The first time this happens, the Rattata shrieks and scurries off while the Shinx merely jolts in surprise before leaning forward with the glare of suspicious cats everywhere. After a few moments, the Rattata creeps back with morbid curiosity, and hits the 'continue' button.]

[Encourage the Rattata's endeavors? Or wait a few hours later until there's the sound of a door opening into what's clearly a hotel room behind the little Rattata and a confused (and deep, if you're into that) voice speaks up.]

What are you doing...?

[Not gonna lie, Jane kind of found this post on accident and just...has been watching it to destress from her Badgequest. It's been a long and eventful few months, and it's nowhere near finished, but moments like this? A cute lil Ratatta playing a video game, a kind of interesting one to boot? Very soothing.

Why yes, she does watch long enough to encounter mystery deep voice, just as she's in the middle of commenting-]

Try turning left at the - oh! Um, sorry? I guess you didn't know your Pokemon had gotten into an app, huh?

[There'd been a hand reaching down to take up the Pokegear right around the time Jane speaks up - ]

[And the Pokegear goes flying through the air - sorry for the motion sickness, Jane - before crashing very loudly into what is presumably a wall, and turning off.]

[After about ten minutes, the video feed reconnects, and there stands an incredibly awkward one eyed viking. The Rattata from before is draped across his shoulders, gently gnawing on the tips of his hair. Don't worry about it.]

...I am unfamiliar with this device. I owe... apologies.

[If it looks like he hasn't slept, it's fine, don't worry about it.]

Jane is just. Kind of pulled back a little, wide-eyed, not sure what prompted that sort of reaction, and then - oh my.

Sir you look like you need to faceplant in a bed.]

N-No, I'm...sorry? For...startling you? D-did I startle you, sir?

I did not know this.. is something the device could do.

Oh geez, I'm so sorry! Um...I guess you're not used to things like this then, huh?

[Does he need a quick rundown or...?]

No. But I am not surprised something like this exists in-

[And there's an awkward pause as he kind of fumbles over his own tongue and stops saying something he wanted to say. There's a child in the room, and he'd feel bad about, like... talking to them about how they're dead.]

[He tries again.]

...Exists in a place like this.

Well gosh! I suppose this is an awkward way to meet someone, then, but I guess it can't be helped now. Hello! My name is Jane, what's yours?

[So chipper......]

[Are people normally this chipper in death? His father certainly wasn't... but, maybe it's a sign of how long she's been here? Dimitri has also felt more miserable and depressed than raging... But, then again, it was never his regrets he was carrying.]

[This will require more thought.]

[For now, Dimitri just awkwardly stares before snapping out of his daze and realizing he's been asked a question.]

...I am Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd. This is Gremlin. I... have been informed that he was playing a- video game?

[He says it like it's a whole other language: pronunciation right, cadence kinda weird.]

It is lovely to meet you Dimitri. [Especially considering there is digital space between herself and...strange eyepatch man.] And yes, he was! It seems like you've got a clever Ratatta friend if he was able to get a game up and going, and to actually play it so deftly! I don't think his species even has thumbs for that sort of thing...

[Whatever Dimitri doesn't get, it's fine. Gremlin starts wildly flailing about, falling off of his shoulder and onto his lap, where he proceeds to continue smacking his little rat paws against the screen-]

[ok so the rat accidentally turned off the pokegear, but Dimitri knows how to turn it back on now so that's something! And when he does, a very exasperated looking Shinx is holding the Rattata in their mouth via the scruff of his little neck.]

[There's a moment of silence where Dimitri is clearly unaware that he's turned on the video, and he jolts a little when he does.]

... He uses his paws very quickly.

[Is the explanation Dimitri thinks he has gleamed from that outburst.]

So I see...he could probably teach you how to use your 'gear better than I could over a message, but if you do have any questions about it, I don't mind answering them.

....I do not understand what he is doing. Mostly, he.... hits it.

The strength of his paws probably resembles a normal person tapping it, which is the basic sort of thing that makes it do stuff.

[He's got them bitty rat paws after all]

...How strong is the material that these devices are made of?

Uh...fairly strong? I know I've dropped mine a couple times and it's just come out of that with a ding or two. Dropping it on its screen is likely a bad idea, though. But if they do break, it's fairly easy to get a replacement.

[So what Dimitri hears is that he's definitely going to break this thing.]

I think it would be best... if I gifted this to Gremlin.

Such a thing would only be wasted on a thing like me.

But how are you going to keep in contact with any friends you make? Or call for help? Or keep up to date on what's going on?

Well yes, of course, but these work much faster. For example, we're talking in real time as if we were in person right now. What if you were stuck somewhere and needed help immediately?
