text! And action for New Bark

[Appearing over everyone's 'gears is a text message. There are signs that the person isn't overly familiar with either texting, technology, or both.]

Kiri remembers her pretty bird friend Chatot when she wakes up, even if it seems kind of like a weird dream. She also remembers being very lost and a lot of people trying to help but not being very good at it. Chatot is back though, so it wasn't a dream! She's warm and in a bed too, this time. That's nice. Kiri starts sitting up and then spots her hands.

Outside of "Mom"'s house, any locals, visitors or recent new arrivals can probably hear the almost hoarse-sounding screaming. Not long after, it stops, and not long after that a clearly upset little girl, no older than ten, is pushed out of the door which closes tightly behind her. That's when the screams start again, more coherent and angry this time, and the girl starts pounding on the door. "Go fuck yourself! Go fuck yourself! Go fuck yourself!"

There's a Chatot awkwardly trying to give comfort and not succeeding very well.

Once Kiri has released her frustration and fear out onto the door, she dries her tears, picks up the pack, and after accepting a hug from Chatot, starts looking for someone who will listen. It's obvious that she's trying to imitate a man's voice, and pretty well too, when she asks the question. "Where are we, exactly?"

[From the extreme closeup of a Chatot that begins the response, it seems like the Pokemon might have been the one to initiate the video. It shows a young girl, no older than ten, with fluffy, wild black hair and a dirty face that's tear-streaked. She's not crying right now, but she's been crying, and recently. Some of the buildings of New Bark are clearly visible in the background.

Also the words she says aren't in a little girl's voice, but a man's. In fact... she kind of sounds like Shiro? Or at least a very good imitation of him.]

For a certain sort of okay, I'd imagine.

Ah...you've just arrived, of course, of course...I can come meet you if you need someone to help you out, but it will take me a bit of time to get to your location.

[It looks like he's moving anyway.]

[This man seems nice. He's trying to help, and maybe he can help her get a knife (she knows how traveling works; there are monsters and thieves and crocodiles) since no one seemed to understand in this town when she tried to ask. The voice she uses for her response is that of a bubbly woman, still not a child's voice.]

I don't know if it's smart. Be careful.

[Odd. Very odd, the way her voice does that. He's still not going to press the issue.]

[There is absolutely some false bravado there; he's dealing with a scared child so of course he isn't going to show any doubts or anything. His Cinderace seems less than impressed by his response and runs a paw down its face.]

[Kiri's face cracks into a little smile. This imitation is a bit rougher than the others, but still not too bad. It gets even better once she's repeated it a few times (which she does)]

Everything I do is smart by definition!

[After that Kiri turns to her Chatot and apparently has a conversation in... Chatot-ese? At the very least, they both just say Chatot back and forth at each other. Finally, she nods, and in yet another, different voice (also a woman's this time, lightly accented.)]

After some hopping and flapping, the Chatot gets the 'gear back to a small girl, no older than ten, who seems to be wiping away what might be a set of frustrated tears. Not the first set she's cried recently, from the tracks down her dirty cheeks.]

I've never done this before.

[That's in a voice different in intonation and everything from the fuck before. The only point in common is that they're both female sounding voices. Kiri does remember to nod at the question though.]

This place and how it works are a lot to take in, especially at first. You're still in the village with the fake mother, right?

[That liar woman was bad and needs to be stabbed. Kiri realizes a second later that there wasn't the usual guesswork involved in figuring out what she meant. Even Jester guessed a bit. In a man's voice with a faint accent, she says:]

[It takes some time for the return text, several minutes of it spent frustrated. Kiri isn't quite sure how it all works, but Chatot does show her the button that sends it kind of like one of Jester's messages? Except words and not sounds.]

Yes, if you weren't human before, you will have become one upon your arrival. Even if you were human to start with, if you had any magic or such, you won't be able to use it here.

[Unfortunately, her spelling isn't all that great, so many of those names are misspelled but she's trying!]
