cats, man

[As the Gear turns on, there's a loud rustling and scratching of claws against the ground. Not a whole lot of light, it's late after all, just the ambient light from the screen of the Gear itself. Just enough to cast a little light on Estinien's face, eyes open and lying on his back staring at the ceiling of his tent in tired resignation.

The scratching and shuffling comes rapidly closer to the camera, and a large shadow passes over--for those with quick eyes, it's the belly of a Perrserker, which is bouncing around the tent like a godsdamned maniac.

It's 3 AM. Cat's got the zoomies.

This has happened every night for the past two weeks.

Estinien grunts as the manic metal cat uses his stomach as a springboard to launch itself out of the tent, there's a yelp outside and for a split second the inside of the tent takes a reddish-orange cast as his Ninetales breathes fire at said crazy cat just outside. The crashing noises get distant for a little bit, but just as Estinien is sitting up to get his Gear and turn it off, he's knocked back flat on his back by the Return of the Cat, satisfied with its early, early morning chaos, and settling directly on his chest while making the most horrid noise.

Estinien just sighs as deeply as one possibly can with a 60 pound cat weighing you down.]

Truly, are you going to do this every night?

[He frowns and turns off the Gear. Goodnight everybody!]

It lost its trainer, a close companion and a regular source of activity not so long ago... That would explain this sudden burst of restlessness.

[It could also explain many behaviors that are far worse, so the restlessness may be a blessing in disguise.]

Do you have any Pokémon who would be willing to train with it, at least for a time?

That's a possibility. I've heard tales of trainers finding their friend's Pokémon in their PC days or weeks after the fact, as they'd not modified their team during that time.

[The thought of a Pokémon waiting so long in the PC after their trainer's disappearance is... upsetting, to say the least. Cecil frowns and chases it away.]

There's also the option of sending it out against fellow trainers more often, but this might not be the hour for it.

Necessity cares little for our plans or wishes, or even the needs of the creatures under our care.

[Cecil is lucky, in that his team have proven they can take care of themselves for weeks at a time if necessary, but that's unlikely to be the case for a Pokémon so recently left behind.]

I'd offer my team's services in keeping it active and tired, but we cannot leave route 7 at the moment.

Work. The Lunar Gym is open from dusk to dawn only, but I cannot go to sleep until the daily paperwork is taken care of. And that's if I'm not expecting deliveries during the day which, as it happens, is the case.

[Not that he can complain much about it, considering he chose his own schedule.]

It is the right of every person who defeats the Elite Four in battle... and also an excellent way to meet talented trainers. Besides, having the freedom to choose what sort of challenge we offer is opens up some delightful possibilities.

[Is he proud of the fact that his Gym tends to trap overly cocky trainers that only have levels on their side? Very much so.]
