Day at the races!
Who: Everyone!
Where: Moo Moo Farms
When: Saturday, March 20th
Summary:
The day is as lovely as you can expect any early spring day to be. You'll need a coat, yes, and there is a bit of a breeze, but the sun shines happily onto the wooden buildings that make up the Moo Moo Farms where we have all gathered today.
The various farm workers have worked hard to make their farm presentable to the public. Cheerful banners hang between the various sheds, stables and barns, which all have been given a bit of a cleaning (and perhaps a new coat of paint here and there). Of course, it is still a farm, so perhaps don't wear your very best shoes, but as far as farms go, it's been made as neat as can be.
And while the main draws of the day may be releasing the Miltank herd out onto the pasture again after a long winter inside -- whimsically called 'Cow Ballet' on the info sign -- and the Great Tauros Race, Moo Moo Farms has set up various little events and booths to entertain their guests, and perhaps teach them a thing or two about farm life.
A large information sign stands at the gate to the farm, letting visitors know what sort of events are taking place, as well as where and when these are happening. The two big ones -- the Miltank Ballet and the Tauros Race -- are spaced in such a way that people can easily attend both, and most of the other little events are available throughout the entire day.
The Miltank Ballet will be taking place at 1PM over by the big barn. There is little you can do to participate in this (unless you are a cow?), but if you want to watch some ecstatic Miltank dance through the mud and grass after a long winter inside, you should definitely come check this out.
The Tauros Race will start at 4PM (sign ups close at 3PM) and anyone who wants to help give the Tauros a good round of exercise is encouraged and welcome to sign up. There is, according to the sign, a small mystery prize to be won, but surely we are all here because we want to help some cooped up Tauros, right?
In addition to those two big events, two paddocks have been made ready where visitors can test themselves against a Bucking Bronco -- that's his name, Bronco the Bouffalant -- to see how long they can last in the saddle. Due to safety concerns, participants for this event will need to be 16+. For the children, there is a separate rodeo in which they can ride Vaquero the Dubwool, who, for all his seemingly wild behaviour, is actually a very well trained Dubwool who'll make sure no harm comes to the kids.
Of course, while people are free to bring their own food, the Moo Moo Farms have also set up a wide variety of booths where people can buy anything from fresh Moo Moo Milk and milkshakes to freshly made cheese and bread, and oh, is that apple pie? That most certainly is apple pie, as well as various other homey pastries. And as the day goes on, and people might start craving something a little less sweet and more filling, a booth opens up selling various curries. Don't worry, there won't be any Snorlax you need to share with this time!
And for anyone who has found themselves wanting and craving a bovine of their own after all these cute sights, you are in luck! Amidst the various booths, there is also one run by two cheery farm girls, advertising a sale on eggs! All the eggs that are normally available from the Moo Moo Farms can be bought at a whopping 50% discount. Mind that this is only on the purchase price of the egg itself. The price for any additional egg-moves remains the same.
There are also some other, smaller things set up, such a station where you can learn about milking a Miltank and a barrel where you can bob for apples, and even a horseshoe toss game. Most of these are definitely aimed towards teaching and entertaining little kids, but nobody will stop you if you decide to muscle past a row of Youngsters to claim the apple bobbing barrel.

...Of course, now he gets to try not to think about the whole Hot Or Not thing. Or about Shiro having stripped his shirt off on the track not that long ago. Goddammit. First Claude and the whole rodeo thing, then Dimitri also losing his shirt, and-- basically, he's kind of wondering if the universe is just out to get him today, in this very specific way?
And then he sort of wants to smack himself for that thought. All Shiro did was walk up and greet him, completely innocent, just like how Dimitri didn't mean anything by stripping mid-race... and, okay, Claude is a whole other story. But neither Shiro nor Dimitri are doing this on purpose, so the less progress his thoughts make down that particular path, the better.
Anyway.
"Uh-- yeah! Yes, on... all counts. Or, same to you, as far as it being... good to see you." Wow. Good job. "You did pretty well out there!"
no subject
Or in person, at all.
"Yeah, not my best work." But he sounds amused by it, thankfully. "But hey, it was fun. I can't complain."
no subject
God damn, he had kind of hoped getting back into dating would make interacting with hot guys he's not dating easier. No such luck, he guesses.
"I guess fun is the key point when it comes down to it, right? That and exercising the Pokemon, and it definitely seems that you accomplished that."
no subject
"I sure hope so. The big guy ran a good race, after all."
And you know, after you beat the Elite 4, this is just kind of a carnival game. Not that he'll say that aloud, it seems too self-centered.
"How've you been?"
no subject
Anyway, he honestly could not blame Shiro for that; after all, it seems like quite a few of the "competitors" in the race were more in it for the fun than the prize, in general.
"Oh, uh..." Boy, he can... not in good conscience give a complete answer to that. He laughs weakly. "Good! We're staying in Olivine for the moment, and... maybe looking into renting somewhere there longer-term. What about you?"
no subject
Still -
"You sure? I've got time if you need an ear or anything..." He's got to offer. That's just kind of who he is.
no subject
There is no way he can dump all that on Shiro without prior warning, alright. ...Jury's still out on whether he'll manage to avoid going into it at all.
no subject
His hand reaches out, to grip Grant's shoulder. In support. It's all over his face. He knows he doesn't know Grant all that well, this is the first time they've ever met face to face, after all. But it just seems wrong not to offer, not to try.
"I hope you're right, then. That it's settling down."
no subject
"Y-yeah, me too. Uh... thank you, seriously. H-how have you been doing?"
He's just gonna. Steer things back around to that!!
no subject
"Okay..." A little suspicion there. But it's more out of concern than anything. "We're all right. Smoothing out since I got back home."
no subject
Well, the fact that helping eight people through the immune system flareups that followed their first-ever vaccinations seemed almost relaxing by the time it happened said a lot in itself.
For now, though, Grant nods, smiling weakly. "Good! That's good. You really do deserve to relax after what you've accomplished."
no subject
Is probably what he'd say, except in better words. As it stands now, though, he just keeps looking with that concerned expression. But if Grant doesn't feel up to sharing, he really can't (and won't) force it out of the poor guy.
"You sound like the family," he says instead, with a slight shake of his head. "I did promise I'd stick around the house for a while though."
no subject
no subject
But he's laughing a little as he says it. Clearly amused, one hand pushing back his hair.
"Nah, I got leave for important cow racing purposes."
no subject
"Well, good - and it's a good reason to step out! Doing something fun for a good cause and all."
no subject
"What brings you out here?" Better to change the subject a little.
no subject
Speaking of which, that change of subject is a great chance to redirect his brain: "Oh, I'm here with a bunch of people I'm traveling with - I don't know about all of us, but I know that my boyfriend needed his baby Miltank to meet the ones here, and my kid and I just figured it sounded like fun. So, we're just here for a day out."
no subject
"That sounds great," he says, and he means it. Grinning. It sounds like a fun day out with a family. With people you care about. No, he refuses to feel any kind of chest ache over it, thank you very much. He should be over it. "I'm glad you guys got that chance. How's your kid liking it?"
no subject
"They're having a great time. Enough so that I'm a little worried they'll get sick on funnel cake, but I guess they figure that's a problem for future Chip." He sighs, casting a glance around as if expecting to spot his kid shoveling down more sweets as they speak. "Or they just figure there won't be a problem at all, because they're eleven."
no subject
"Oh, eleven. Didn't you know? They're all invincible at that age." He doesn't even try to keep a straight face. "I hate to say it, but it'll get worse as they get older. The invincibility thing."
no subject
no subject
"If you need a hand, I've probably seen most of it. Including grand theft auto."
no subject
...Hang on, give him a moment to take that in. He raises his eyebrows slowly. "Is that a matter of, uh... what I guess would be considered standard teen joyride stuff, or is there a story there?"
no subject
"It's... a long story. Gist of it was - he figured he had no future anyway, so may as well." A shake of his head. "I was recruiting pilot candidates at his school - his teachers weren't going to let him into the program with his disciplinary record. So... he stole my car."
The very bare bones of the story there.
no subject
Yeah.
"I mean... I guess as motives for a teenager to commit grand theft auto go, 'screw it' is a pretty obvious one, huh."
