What's a Brave Police Unit? Is that just the city you are from?

[Brave is a bit of a weird name for a city, but really, probably not the worst out there.]

Ahhh, carrying on the family tradition? Quite a noble enterprise.

We are robotic police units - possessing Super AI chips. Capable of thought, feeling, like those of human beings. All in order to better protect the people of Nanamagari City.

I wanted to join the force when I was a kid, but I think being a private investigator fits me better.

[Less, uh, rules about breaking into stuff and murdering. You know. Adventure stuff.]

What's a robot?

You are unfamiliar with the term? Hm. Have you any familiarity with machines? Or computers?

Private Investigators have more freedom.
You can pick your own cases and nobody can tell you to investigate something.
You can't do that on the force.
My mom has to take the cases they give her, and she has to drop them if she is ordered to.
Even when she knows there is more to the story.
I'd rather make those decisions myself.

[Riz definitely doesn't have anything against cops! But there are just restrictions he won't have while working on his own.]

Machines, yeah. And we got computers where I am from, though ours are more crystal based?
Can you tell me what a robot is?
I might know what it is but we have a different name for it or something.
I already found out that what we call a paladin doesn't necessarily match up to what paladins are in other worlds.

So I see! This shall be much simpler.

A robot is, in most cases, a machine. One built in the shape of something else - such as a human being, or animal. Or even a vehicle. They perform their programmed tasks as human beings decree.

Myself... and my fellow Brave Police are far more advanced than simple [The text doesn't pause, but he takes the briefest of moments to close his eyes, in memory.] talking machines.

We have emotion.

Me and my friends did manage to solve the kidnapping of several girls.
And prevented a dragon from taking over the world.

Oh, we do have something kind of similar to that.
We call them warforged.
They are beings made from metal or wood, given intelligence and the ability to feel.
They were created to be weapons and soldiers in the past, but now they can live regular lives.
I don't really know a lot of details about them though. They are not very common.

Already you sound as if you've accomplished much. You have a great deal to be proud of.

We are nothing like them, then. We are not tools of war, or weapons. We are to protect and serve the human beings of the city.

Eight of us, currently operating in Japan. Other countries, I'm told, have their own Brave units.

One of us even hails from England, he tells me.

Are the eight of you the entire police force or are there, like, regular folks too?

[sassymaru]

There are human police officers of course. Not every incident in the city requires the intervention of a BP unit.

That makes sense. What sort of incidents does your unit take care of?
I'm guessing it's not parking violations.

[sassymaru]

Those relating to robotic crime. Or technological theft and abuse.



Though, Deckerd has been known to issue a ticket, here and there.
