The World Has Got a Smile Today, the World Has Got a Glow (Voltron Holiday Party Log)
Who: The Attack on Voltron House and YOU! Seriously, if you have Voltron CR, you're invited!
Where: Attack on Voltron House, Four Island
When: Around December 11
Summary: The Voltrons have a human/Altean holiday party at their house, come on by!
Rating: PG to PG-13, will warn as necessary
When Shiro proposed celebrating Grogory Day back at the harvest festival, Allura had honestly been touched by the suggestion, even more so when the rest of the household agreed. (Especially coming from Keith and Pidge, who liked their peace and quiet.) So after sitting down with a calendar and making a graphing calculator earn its keep, Allura determined that Grogory Day would be about December 8th. Of course, that was a weekday, so the invitations she sends out a few weeks beforehand (to give people time for travel) say it’s that Saturday evening instead. (And given the number of high-level trainers in the house, guests are more than welcome to request a ride.) And since it seems to be the main Earth holiday, why not make it an early Christmas party, too?
When people arrive, the spacious beach house is decked out with lights, mostly in shades of blue, and the interior beckons people to come out of the brisk and damp sub-tropic air, warm and bright and spacious (which it needs to be with the possible crowds), soft and cheery Poké-holiday music winding through the rooms, with interludes from Jaskier and his Wigglytuff throughout the evening.
As for refreshments, while Hunk might not be here, the non-Shiro members of the household are able to set out a decent spread from all their cultures. Lance contributes a host of Cuban recipes from golden brown tostones and empanadas, to roasted pernil with juicy meat draped in crispy skin, served with rice and black beans. A wintery gratin filled with mushrooms and kabocha squash, baked Brie topped with a rosehip jam in lieu of juniberries and wrapped in puff pastry, an assortment of Christmas cookies (including but certainly not limited to gingerbread and peanut butter blossoms), and an island of drinks featuring mugs of warm coffee, glasses of sweet coquito, slow cookers of mulled berry wine and apple juice, and a bowl with an extremely blue punch. And treats for the Pokémon as well, naturally. Of course, if guests want to contribute to the feast, they’re more than welcome!
(Also, at some point in the evening, Lance might have stolen Shiro's Gallade to help plant mistletoe here and there. Do with this information what you will.)
So come, eat, drink, mingle with old friends and make some new ones! And enjoy the night, no matter which holiday you’ve come to celebrate!
[[OOC: This is a mingle log, so feel free to make your own top-levels and such, and have fun!]]

[Really, he doesn't mind being piled on by little warm bodies. It's actually kind of comforting. Like a weighted blanket. It was extremely nice, for the first hour or so he was sitting here.]
[And true to Shiro's nature, he hasn't bothered to try and dislodge the sleeping Pokemon. Even when - ]
My arm's. Asleep. [The left arm. The only one that can fall asleep.]
no subject
[Oh no... Allura's giggle grows into a full chuckle.]
Oh dear. [It could be worse, at least the 3'7" golden otter didn't join the cuddle pile.] Would you like help extricating that limb?
[No promises for the rest of him.]
no subject
... Please?
[He admits defeat. The adorable pokemon pile has bested the Black Paladin.]
no subject
[Another soft chuckle, and with a few scritches of permission, Allura reaches beneath the pile of fuzz and begins lifting his arm out until it can be draped over the arm of the chair.]
There. Better?
no subject
Having a good time?
no subject
[Oh no, play kickies! Time for Ayrol to flap his stubby little proto-wings at her to play as well!]
Very. [A softer smile.] It's... wonderful, being able to celebrate Grogory Day again. I didn't think I would be able to until after the war. [And at first she thought it'd just be her and Coran and the mice, then maybe the Paladins if she could rope them into it. Now... now she had a chance to share it with so many more people- more friends- and even give new Alteans a piece of their stolen culture back.] And you were quite generous, letting me fold it into your Christmas celebrations.
no subject
[One of the benefits of having a free hand is the ability to reach out and grasp one of hers.]
I'm really glad to hear that. [Sincerely. Her having something like this? Having somewhere to actually call home again. That was one of the biggest reasons he'd purchased the house in the first place. So everyone could have that chance.] And hey, any time. Makes things a little more interesting, I feel like.
no subject
[Awww~ She gives his hand a squeeze back.]
Is that so? Well then, I might have to dredge up the rest of the Altean calendar for more amalgamations. [Her smile quirks.] And it really has been nice to learn more of my friends' traditions as well. We also didn't do much for your holidays back in our reality, did we?
no subject
[It'll make her happy. And unless there's something outlandish like "wrestle the Bleaken", how bad can it be?]
We really didn't have a lot of time for it. Everything else had to come first.
no subject
Indeed. [A soft sigh, evaporating into a faint laugh.] It's strange... I was so out of sorts when I first came here, but... this has been the most peaceful I've felt in quite a while.
[Ten thousand years at least, possibly more, depending on how much she could read the tension in her father's face as his and Zarkon's friendship strained to breaking.]
no subject
It's what I really wanted for all of you.
[Peace.]
[It was scarcer than anything, back in their world.]
no subject
[Oh no...]
Oh, Shiro...
[She... probably shouldn't mention that it wasn't until she became a paladin, a "real" part of the team, that she started feeling like she could have that for herself, with them instead of just watching them grasp it. Contentment, maybe, more likely a meaningful death. After all, what would she have left once the fighting was done, if she survived it? Her place was on Altea, ten thousand years ago.But instead she'll say this much.]
You have no idea how important you've become to me. All of you. I can't thank you enough for all the good you've done, here and our home reality.
no subject
You don't need to thank me. Not for anything.
[She never has needed to do that. She never will. If anything, he's the one who should be thanking her. He had nothing, no purpose, short of making sure the kids stayed alive, until ... she'd given him one. Declared dead on Earth, nothing left for him back there...]
[And then Allura and Voltron came along.
no subject
We'll have to disagree on that. [She owes them all so, so much.] But even if I didn't... I want to.
no subject
no subject
[A soft chuckle.]
Well, you are allowed to, for the record. Mostly when it comes to going alone on missions in hostile territory or allowing me to overwork myself.
[Again, thank god the former is a non-factor here.]
Do you need anything else, since you seem a bit immobilized at the moment.
no subject
[Isn't he funny? He's just hilarious.]
[And looks down, frowning. None of the cats have budged.]
... Wouldn't say no to something to eat?
no subject
[She laughs a little more. Nope, this is your fate, Shiro, accept it, it's nicer than being sucked into Black's VR space for about a year.]
I think I can manage that. Any specific requests?
no subject
Or fish.
Please... [He'll beg, Allura. Don't make him beg.]
no subject
Already on my list. I'll be back shortly.
[Sure enough, it's only a few minutes before Allura returns with a perfectly vegetarian plate and fork.]
Here you are. Kabocha and mushroom gratin, tostones, and gingerbread cookies.
[She even picked the soft round ones instead of the crispy ones oddly shaped like little people.]
no subject
[He figured she'd already know about the uh. Meat issues. But the fact Allura doesn't even blink, or cajole or anything? That qualifies her for sainthood.]
[The look he gives her when she comes back is possibly the most grateful look he's ever given a person.]
Thank you. A- oh, cookies? There were some left?
[Hell yes!!]
no subject
[Look, princess and diplomat. She has seen and heard way, way more out there diet requests, not to mention her own now-conquered issues with milk. (Just don't ask her about Kos'Balaran blood cheese...)]
Yes, just a few. Of course, we can always back more after today. Christmas itself isn't for another two weeks, after all.
no subject
[Don't mind him going for the cookies first. He'd been hoping there were one or two left...]
By "we", you mean, everyone who isn't Shiro, right?
no subject
[Another laugh.]
You may help decorate, with supervision.
no subject
[Decoration-wise. As long as he doesn't, you know. Need to heat anything up.]
