When Shiro proposed celebrating Grogory Day back at the harvest festival, Allura had honestly been touched by the suggestion, even more so when the rest of the household agreed. (Especially coming from Keith and Pidge, who liked their peace and quiet.) So after sitting down with a calendar and making a graphing calculator earn its keep, Allura determined that Grogory Day would be about December 8th. Of course, that was a weekday, so the invitations she sends out a few weeks beforehand (to give people time for travel) say it’s that Saturday evening instead. (And given the number of high-level trainers in the house, guests are more than welcome to request a ride.) And since it seems to be the main Earth holiday, why not make it an early Christmas party, too?

When people arrive, the spacious beach house is decked out with lights, mostly in shades of blue, and the interior beckons people to come out of the brisk and damp sub-tropic air, warm and bright and spacious (which it needs to be with the possible crowds), soft and cheery Poké-holiday music winding through the rooms, with interludes from Jaskier and his Wigglytuff throughout the evening.

As for refreshments, while Hunk might not be here, the non-Shiro members of the household are able to set out a decent spread from all their cultures. Lance contributes a host of Cuban recipes from golden brown tostones and empanadas, to roasted pernil with juicy meat draped in crispy skin, served with rice and black beans. A wintery gratin filled with mushrooms and kabocha squash, baked Brie topped with a rosehip jam in lieu of juniberries and wrapped in puff pastry, an assortment of Christmas cookies (including but certainly not limited to gingerbread and peanut butter blossoms), and an island of drinks featuring mugs of warm coffee, glasses of sweet coquito, slow cookers of mulled berry wine and apple juice, and a bowl with an extremely blue punch. And treats for the Pokémon as well, naturally. Of course, if guests want to contribute to the feast, they’re more than welcome!

(Also, at some point in the evening, Lance might have stolen Shiro's Gallade to help plant mistletoe here and there. Do with this information what you will.)

So come, eat, drink, mingle with old friends and make some new ones! And enjoy the night, no matter which holiday you’ve come to celebrate!

"Thanks." He sets the cookies down, nodding slightly as Keith introduces himself.

"Yeah, he's mentioned you! Glad I could find you, actually; meeting Shiro's friends from home who'd just shown up was one of the main reasons I came by."

[tempredmental]

"Probably mentioned what a pain in the butt I am," Keith said, though he seemed pretty amused about the idea, if anything. "But, yeah... we've known each other a long time now." He smiled a little at that. Keith was definitely more reserved than Shiro, but it was clear he cared deeply for the older man.

[woofdad]

He shrugs, straightening up from the baked goods drop-off. "I dunno, mostly what I've gotten is how fond he is of you - and that part about how long you've known each other, tied into that. I'm glad he's been getting more of the people from home that are important to him, here."

[tempredmental]

Keith smiled a little.

"We're all a close team," Keith said. One couldn't go through the bonding they had to develop in order to make Voltron work and not feel like they were close. Sure, some of them got on each other's nerves (Lance), but they were still close knit. "But, yeah. He's like a brother to me."

[woofdad]

"Good! I'm sure it'll be good for you all to have each other's support."

He sure hopes so, anyway, because... certain people (Shiro) could definitely use it.

[tempredmental]

Shiro wasn't the only one on the team who needed it, but it was good that they had each other for that role. Keith nodded.

"Yeah. It's helped," he said. "I mean, I could probably handle things if I'd been here on my own, but... it's good to have familiar people from home. It definitely made it easier." He grabbed a couple of cookies off the table.

"What about you? Do you have anyone from home here?"

[woofdad]

Grant gives a soft hum of agreement; sure, being alone here would probably be manageable, but having family around was certainly preferable.

Speaking of which: "I do, yeah - my kid ended up here along with me." He laughs softly, fondness warming his voice. "I think they adapted faster than I did, too."

[tempredmental]

Keith actually did smile a little bit at that.

"Think so, huh?" Yeah. Keith did feel like he adapted better as a kid... sometimes. He'd also been pretty stubborn and strong-willed. It was a weird balance. "So who's your kid?"

[woofdad]

"Mm-hm. There are these games from our world they really like that are kinda similar, so they were pretty excited for it all from the beginning."

Of course, assuming things here worked the same way they did in Paliens did give Chip some trouble with type matchups and the like, but that's basically fine. They had the spirit from the beginning.

"Their name's Chip - they're not here today, not a big fan of parties with people they don't know. But you might've seen them on the network - they're twelve, kinda shaggy brown hair, usually, ah... showing people their Pokemon or getting into arguments, when they post."

[tempredmental]

"I think so," Keith said. "I'm not much for all that online stuff, but I do look now and then. Most to see if there's anything I should be aware of." He shrugged a little sheepishly. "But I get that thing about parties." Hence why he was food table hovering. "They can be a little overwhelming sometimes. I'm mainly here because Allura asked me. It's her party, and she wanted to do something special for our holiday, and show us about hers. We never got the chance back home after we met her, so it's kinda nice."

[woofdad]

"Oh, yeah - I can't blame anyone for not wanting to deal with all the buzz. I often can't hang around 'em for too long, myself."

There we go, that sounds like a good reason for why he won't be here long. And it's even true, though not his main reason for planning to step out in this instance.

"Yeah? That's really sweet; I'm glad you guys got the opportunity to put this celebration together."

[tempredmental]

Keith smiled a little. Thank goodness, someone who understood.

"Yeah, I am, too. Well, I mean, she and Romelle did a lot of the work of organizing it, and Lance did a good amount of the cooking... I can't take credit for any of it. But, I am still glad it got to happen." He looked over the crowd. "Everyone seems pretty happy for the most part... like they're enjoying it, and that's what's important."

[woofdad]

"I'm sure they really appreciate that you're here at all. That can mean a lot on its own, especially if they know it's not something you're really into."

Grant himself knows some people whose mere presence, in situations where he knows they'd rather not be there, can be very appreciated.

...Hell, he knows a not-particularly-social black-haired guy like that. Too bad he doesn't know Keith well enough to make the swordsman connection, too.

[tempredmental]

That got a small smile.

"I guess, yeah."

He hadn't considered that, honestly. But, then, he supposed that was kind of the point, right? That he was there for them and not himself.

"So, Allura invited you?"

[woofdad]

"Shiro did, actually - though meeting Allura was certainly one of my reasons for coming by, with how highly Shiro has talked about both of you."

And he can always just... keep hoping that things will go better there than with the other friends of Shiro's he knows. So far, it's worked out, at least.

[tempredmental]

"Oh..." Keith looked a bit sheepish for a second. "Shiro exaggerates. I mean, Allura's great. Yeah." Herp. Did he just admit that? Haha... "But, sometimes I think he kind of overdoes it with me."

Yeah... Keith didn't exactly have the best opinion of himself.

[woofdad]

Oh, that was something, alright. A few somethings, actually, between the simultaneous fumbling over the topics of Allura and himself.

"Well, I could buy that Shiro's perception colors what he says, but it's bound to be coming from somewhere. In any case, though, I'm happy to get to know you firsthand and find out."

[tempredmental]

That got a small chuckle.

"I know Shiro's been here a while, so... yeah. It's good to meet the people he's made friends with here."

And make sure he's been in good hands. Shiro needs his friends.

[woofdad]

"Yeah - admittedly, though I'm not one of the people who he's been hanging out with the longest; I've only been here for about a year. Hopefully, you'll get to meet his longer-term friends, too - if you haven't already, that is!" For all he knows, Keith might've run into the people who have really gotten to know Shiro long before this conversation.

Keith nodded a bit.

"Yeah. Hopefully. I do know that there are others here from home... and, apparently I've been here before... but to see who he's met here, that's always good to see." He smiled. "I'm just glad to see him more relaxed."
