The World Has Got a Smile Today, the World Has Got a Glow (Voltron Holiday Party Log)
Who: The Attack on Voltron House and YOU! Seriously, if you have Voltron CR, you're invited!
Where: Attack on Voltron House, Four Island
When: Around December 11
Summary: The Voltrons have a human/Altean holiday party at their house, come on by!
Rating: PG to PG-13, will warn as necessary
When Shiro proposed celebrating Grogory Day back at the harvest festival, Allura had honestly been touched by the suggestion, even more so when the rest of the household agreed. (Especially coming from Keith and Pidge, who liked their peace and quiet.) So after sitting down with a calendar and making a graphing calculator earn its keep, Allura determined that Grogory Day would be about December 8th. Of course, that was a weekday, so the invitations she sends out a few weeks beforehand (to give people time for travel) say it’s that Saturday evening instead. (And given the number of high-level trainers in the house, guests are more than welcome to request a ride.) And since it seems to be the main Earth holiday, why not make it an early Christmas party, too?
When people arrive, the spacious beach house is decked out with lights, mostly in shades of blue, and the interior beckons people to come out of the brisk and damp sub-tropic air, warm and bright and spacious (which it needs to be with the possible crowds), soft and cheery Poké-holiday music winding through the rooms, with interludes from Jaskier and his Wigglytuff throughout the evening.
As for refreshments, while Hunk might not be here, the non-Shiro members of the household are able to set out a decent spread from all their cultures. Lance contributes a host of Cuban recipes from golden brown tostones and empanadas, to roasted pernil with juicy meat draped in crispy skin, served with rice and black beans. A wintery gratin filled with mushrooms and kabocha squash, baked Brie topped with a rosehip jam in lieu of juniberries and wrapped in puff pastry, an assortment of Christmas cookies (including but certainly not limited to gingerbread and peanut butter blossoms), and an island of drinks featuring mugs of warm coffee, glasses of sweet coquito, slow cookers of mulled berry wine and apple juice, and a bowl with an extremely blue punch. And treats for the Pokémon as well, naturally. Of course, if guests want to contribute to the feast, they’re more than welcome!
(Also, at some point in the evening, Lance might have stolen Shiro's Gallade to help plant mistletoe here and there. Do with this information what you will.)
So come, eat, drink, mingle with old friends and make some new ones! And enjoy the night, no matter which holiday you’ve come to celebrate!
[[OOC: This is a mingle log, so feel free to make your own top-levels and such, and have fun!]]

"Learning about the humans' winter holiday has been interesting. Though, some of that food Lance brought can be pretty spicy." Romelle wasn't used to Latin food. Or, really, anything that had strong flavor. The colony had basics, but they really lived based on necessity and not flair or frivolity.
no subject
"Indeed. Although from Lance's telling it, Cuban cuisine tends to be one of the less spicy cuisines of his region's group of cultures." A half-besumed sigh. "Humans are masochists. Back in my day at least, the main point of cooking was to stop your food from trying to kill you."
Wait until these poor space elves learn about Mexican cuisine...

"I'm not sure of specific dishes, but they've mentioned that humans actually breed peppers to have higher and higher capsaicin content."
Nobody tell them about Tamato berries, or Tamato pasta sauce.
no subject
Did Allura know about Earth pineapple? Because Romelle didn't...
no subject
She does by now... the pineapple juice in the posted recipe has been swapped with mango.
"Sometimes I wonder." A soft chuckle. "But then again, Coran isn't much better at times, nor was Father."

Oh, Romelle... That's an adorable attempt and Allura can't help but snort.
"Indeed they are. I wish you'd been there to see father and Coran bring home a CRATE of Unilu spirits. They ended up almost completely detonating the Castle kitchens, Mother was furious. There are still scorch marks on the walls if you look closely enough."

Oh... that worries her immediately.
"Romelle?"
no subject
"How much about your future have the others told you?" she asked quietly.
no subject
"You and Keith have told me the most... about the colony Alteans, and Keith finding his mother and you, and returning to Voltron." Oh Ancients... "Are you all alive?"
no subject
"Oh, yes! We're all alive." Thanks to Allura, honestly. Shiro almost wasn't. But... "We just... don't have the Castle of Lions anymore."
no subject
Ah. There it is.
"I see..." It's her party, but she doesn't want to cry right now. Deep breaths. "Well... as important as the Castle was strategically," and, you know, being her lifelong home and the closest thing she had left to the physical location of Altea, "at least it was only a material loss. And perhaps it might be rebuilt sometime after the war, if Coran still has the schematics."
See? Totally... absolutely... fine...
no subject
"We have all the data from the Castle's computers," she said. "The schematics, information about all the races you've met, about the war itself, about the Lions and Voltron, star maps, Altea's history... all of it. Apparently, after Pidge found her brother and father, Coran backed up everything to a portable device and sent it to Earth along with some messages from the Paladins to their families. Pidge's father took it with him when he left to show the people at the Garrison about where he'd been." She smiled.
"It's extensive, and the human computers really couldn't handle all of it at first, but Pidge and her father found a way to make it work once we got to Earth, and we have all of that information still." Yes, they'd gotten to Earth... That was a good thing, right?
no subject
Oh... Pidge had just brought Matt to the Castle before Allura was brought here, but she's very happy to hear she finds her father as well. And the line about schematics had been a faint glimmer of hope, one she half expected to be snuffed out, but hearing that it's real... Her smile calms and strengthens.
"That is very good news." She rests a hand on Romelle's shoulder. "Thank you, Romelle, for the hope and your honesty. Both are very much appreciated."
Good place to wrap this up?
"Of course," she said. "We still have a lot to hope for." She brought her own hand up and placed it over Allura's before giving her a bright smile. "Happy Groggery Day, Allura."
