The World Has Got a Smile Today, the World Has Got a Glow (Voltron Holiday Party Log)
Who: The Attack on Voltron House and YOU! Seriously, if you have Voltron CR, you're invited!
Where: Attack on Voltron House, Four Island
When: Around December 11
Summary: The Voltrons have a human/Altean holiday party at their house, come on by!
Rating: PG to PG-13, will warn as necessary
When Shiro proposed celebrating Grogory Day back at the harvest festival, Allura had honestly been touched by the suggestion, even more so when the rest of the household agreed. (Especially coming from Keith and Pidge, who liked their peace and quiet.) So after sitting down with a calendar and making a graphing calculator earn its keep, Allura determined that Grogory Day would be about December 8th. Of course, that was a weekday, so the invitations she sends out a few weeks beforehand (to give people time for travel) say it’s that Saturday evening instead. (And given the number of high-level trainers in the house, guests are more than welcome to request a ride.) And since it seems to be the main Earth holiday, why not make it an early Christmas party, too?
When people arrive, the spacious beach house is decked out with lights, mostly in shades of blue, and the interior beckons people to come out of the brisk and damp sub-tropic air, warm and bright and spacious (which it needs to be with the possible crowds), soft and cheery Poké-holiday music winding through the rooms, with interludes from Jaskier and his Wigglytuff throughout the evening.
As for refreshments, while Hunk might not be here, the non-Shiro members of the household are able to set out a decent spread from all their cultures. Lance contributes a host of Cuban recipes from golden brown tostones and empanadas, to roasted pernil with juicy meat draped in crispy skin, served with rice and black beans. A wintery gratin filled with mushrooms and kabocha squash, baked Brie topped with a rosehip jam in lieu of juniberries and wrapped in puff pastry, an assortment of Christmas cookies (including but certainly not limited to gingerbread and peanut butter blossoms), and an island of drinks featuring mugs of warm coffee, glasses of sweet coquito, slow cookers of mulled berry wine and apple juice, and a bowl with an extremely blue punch. And treats for the Pokémon as well, naturally. Of course, if guests want to contribute to the feast, they’re more than welcome!
(Also, at some point in the evening, Lance might have stolen Shiro's Gallade to help plant mistletoe here and there. Do with this information what you will.)
So come, eat, drink, mingle with old friends and make some new ones! And enjoy the night, no matter which holiday you’ve come to celebrate!
[[OOC: This is a mingle log, so feel free to make your own top-levels and such, and have fun!]]

Apparently so. [She expects a confused look or two.] I had to run through some calculations to be sure. Altean time units are a bit different, although surprisingly our years line up rather well. Not to mention from what I understand, Christmas came to be quite some time after Grogory Day was last celebrated.
[At least 8,000 years, approximately.]

Oh! Actually, I've made a list for my own purposes.
[Because adapting her own lexicon to human's smaller time units took some time, even if she hasn't needed the list for a while. Allura pulls out her Gear and shows Fluttershy.]
They're roughly the same, save that Altean ticks are slightly longer than seconds, so that lengthens doboshes and vargas- "minutes" and "hours"- accordingly. And then we divide "quintants" or "days" into twenty vargas, one "week" or Spicolian movement- or just movement- is five quintants rather than seven, and then our deca-phoebs or years are divided into ten phoebs rather than twelve.

[This is what happens when your father is pretty much a well-adjusted Tony Stark as king of the space elves. And also when you have real, honest-to-god, non-convalescent free time for the first time in almost a year.]
In any case, I'm grateful to celebrate it now.
[It's at this point that the tiny round Pokémon still half-encased in an eggshell pipes up and gently tugs at Allura's pant leg, echoed by the tinier blue mouse. She chuckles and obliges the requests for uppies.]
Very well. You may say hello too.
no subject
Oh, how cute! Hello there!
no subject
Yes, this is Ayrol [the Togepi gives a soft chirp], Chumirra [a cautious but curious squeak from the Azurill], and Morling. [A few cocky barks from the golden Floatzel still on the floor. And of course Fluttershy has already met Coressa. Care to chat?]
no subject
It's very nice to meet you all! [ Allegra was her only Pokemon out of her Pokeball at the moment, but she wondered if she should let the others out as well. ]
no subject
[She's certainly welcome, they have an ambiguously sized house and enough food to feed a literal small army and its friends.]
Morling challenged me on the beach during a training session, but Ayrol and Chumirra I adopted from the Pokémon Daycare nearby.
[Morling takes a few seconds to brag about how strong and awesome and cool he was even as a Buizel. ... Before Coressa chimes in "we beat you soundly. In less than two moves each."]
no subject
I'm sure you were still very strong and cool. [ She probably didn't have to reassure Morling, but she didn't want him to feel too embarrassed. ]
There's a daycare nearby that lets you adopted Pokemon? [ Now that was certainly intriguing. ]
no subject
Oh, yes, among other things! They breed and sell eggs of certain Pokémon species- including a breeding program for Togepi's species, which is very rare in the wild- as well as rehabilitate injured or orphaned Pokémon.
[A soft peep from Chumirra indicates she came from the latter category...]

Are we allowed to work there?
no subject
[Aaah, somebody's happy!]
We are indeed. You'll likely be only allowed to work part-time due to your age, but I've been alternating my weeks between working there and at the observatory. That's how I met these two.
no subject
Still, that must be so great, getting to help with their rehabilitation! I'd love to see what it's like there.
no subject
That can be arranged easily. It's actually only a few miles away on this island; I could introduce you, if you'd like.

Excellent. I'd be happy to show you tomorrow.
[Of course, given people's ability to travel, the Voltrons have offered free spaces to sleep at the beach house overnight. Breakfast or lunch, then being swarmed by cute baby Pokémon and marine rescues.]

[ She hadn't even thought about where she was staying tonight, or even what she was doing after the party. So she's grateful that Allura and the others thought of it first. ]
