The whole wishing thing had been a neat idea, but Shrike hadn't expected anything to come of it, and definitely not what actually did. Still, he's not the type to waste a gift, so after some coordination (probably not without a bit of help) here he is, and here are Sandalphon, Dimitri, and Ryner.

The only person who knows everyone else well is, well, Shrike. Hopefully this won't be too awkward?

"Well, we could play with the companions we have gathered here, couldn't we?" Dimitri points out, smiling a bit. "We would have to adjust the game somewhat, depending on if there are those who do not have things with which to grip a stick, but it should be doable!"

Because why leave the Pokemeon out of the fun?

Right. The Pokemon. Shrike probably should have thought of that, but he's still kind of processing the whole 'someone wants to play games with him' bit.

Still, he can think of one other important point, at least:

"Do you have a stick?"

Dimitri 100% does not have a stick.

This does not stop him, both from his decided goal, and how he smiles. "If you give me but a moment, I am sure that myself and some of my own could find one posthaste. It is only fair that we would do a little bit of work ourselves, after you both helped us find such a good playing spot!"

He's already reaching for his belt, trying to think of who could spot things best for him or cover the most ground. "And while we are doing that... You could become more familiar with the ball, if you would like."

Well that's probably a solution. Hopefully. Shrike isn't sure how big a stick is needed, or really... anything else relevant to how this works. Sure, he's seen kids play before, but usually he just retreated to his book, seeing as he was generally never included in such activities anyway.

Still, he's a little confused by that last part.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, you could play with it on your own!" Dimitri clarifies, gesturing to the ball. "You could toss it up in the air, or throw it to your companions... You could even kick it about if you like. It seems to be rather flexible, as far as balls go!"

Definitely better than the rounds bit of compact leather stuff with whatever could be found. Those balls.... can hurt.

"Oh."

That's... actually a kind of novel idea. Especially with the whole probably not having to worry too much about accidentally breaking it factored in.

"Okay."

For all that he agrees, Shrike seems a little bit hesitant to actually start... Or maybe he just needs a nudge.

Well, that's hardly any problem at all, honestly, now is it. Dimitri offers up the ball. "I could get some of my Paliens out, and they could show you how to play," he suggests. "I need to get them out anyway - this is a vacation for all of us, isn't it?"

It's probably more just not knowing where or how to start, really. Shrike does nod at the suggestion and take the ball, though, so there's that. Even if he is still a little careful about how he holds it: he tries to keep his nails well-trimmed, but they have a tendency to get a little claw-like easily.

"Excellent! Then..." Dimitri reaches down, and promptly begins releasing the rest of his team that he chose for this vacation. "This would be... Seonaidh, Marimorgen, Hob, Cofgodas, and I believe you meet Agnes quite a while ago."

Agnes, of course, being the empty-pouched Kangaskhan who waves her claws over at Shrike patiently. Seonaidh would be a shy Chinchou who promptly tries to hide behind Dimitri's leg, still not used to people. That leaves the rat family - the two Raticate fussing over their serious faced little Azurill that's there inbetween them.

That sure is a bunch of new Pokémon to meet all at once. Shrike's a little unsure how he's supposed to react.

"Uh. Hello..."

Nailed it.

Only relatively new! Dimitri helps usher forth the Kangaskhan. She's already making soft chuffing noises, and making a slight gesture that's a little less than Shrike is tall.

"Agnes remembers you! She was one of those you talked to about battling, when we first met." Dimitri observes the gesture. "I think she's saying that you've grown!"

New to Shrike is still plenty new. Though at least Pokemon are easier to deal with than people.

That said, that remark does take Shrike by surprise.

"Uh, you think so?"

Agnes nods, still making that soft chuffing noise which almost sounds like laughter. Enjoy that sort of just... flat pat to your head, Shrike. She at least makes sure to keep her claws pointed away so that they don't catch his swim gear.

"Well, you are at that age," Dimitri muses. "And this place has much food. It would not be surprising if you gained some height, or filled out. I know I have - at least in the latter."

No desperate foraging! It's nice.

"Oh."

Honestly, Shrike hadn't ever really thought about that. Between the fact that the clothes he'd arrived in hadn't been in great shape in the first place, and that when picking out new clothes old habit made him err on the large side... well. Suffice it to say he'd never stopped to pay attention enough to notice.

"Um, I guess...?"

He doesn't actually know how to respond to that.

"Perhaps it is something you can keep track of, now that you have been made aware," Dimitri suggests. "It is interesting, to realize the ways you have grown. Pictures can help as well - and cameras are such a useful device here with that amongst many reasons!"

In truth, it rather trips Dimitri up when he looks at pictures and realizes the differences... But that's some reflection for another time.

"I will leave Agnes here - I am sure that she will be glad to catch up with you, as best she can." Considering she's one of his literate Pokemon and there's plenty of sand around, he's sure they'll manage. "I will return when I find the sticks!"

Not of himself. Not given how self-conscious he is of his appearance.

That said, probably best to just get back to the main topic, in any case.

"Oh. All right."

Shrike's not sure what he's supposed to do besides stand around and wait, but it's fine.
