Catch-all: Collegiate Gym!

Who: Sion, Ryner, and all visitors to the Collegiate Gym
Where: The Collegiate Gym, on the outskirts of Ecruteak City
When: throughout September
Summary: Catch-all log for the Collegiate Gym's leg of the stamp rally!
Rating: Probably G unless someone brings their own baggage. The gym leaders will hopefully leave theirs at home.
Log:

Welcome to the Collegiate Gym! If you've ever been here before, you might notice something somewhat different in the atrium: in two straight lines down the sides of the room are a series of computer monitors, kind of reminiscent of a middle school computer lab.

The stamp challenge is simple. You sit down in front of one of the monitors in the atrium and are presented with a series of short Pokemon battle scenarios in simple PC game form, which you are supposed to win within a certain number of turns.

(Graphically, think sort of like an 8-bit sprite version of Pokemon Stadium. The user interface is... simple, completely functional and obvious enough to navigate, but it's fairly evident that whoever programmed it is not exactly skilled in UX design. It's a pretty robust engine otherwise, though.)

Scenarios are semi-randomized from a large pool, so it's unlikely that two people will get the same exact scenario. You might be given a full team to work with, or just one or two Pokemon, and similarly you might fight a small team or a large one. The winning strategy might be as simple as choosing the right attacks to get type advantage, or as involved as using a single Lycanroc to defeat a team of six Shedinjas in two moves, or anything in between. Every scenario does have at least one solution, though.

The good news for anyone who isn't great at strategy is, you only have to win three out of five scenarios to pass, and even then, you can try again from the beginning as many times as you need to. (You might just be asked to return to the back of the line first if there are too many people who've come in at once.) The gym leaders are also around and willing to give hints if you're really stumped.

If the stamp rally challenge doesn't interest you, of course, there's plenty more to do. The classrooms have been opened up and have various seminars happening (there's a schedule by the entrance), the library is open to anyone who wants to find something to read or just take a nap, and Ryner and Sion are available for challenges. There are also plenty of refreshments provided, including but not limited to cookies baked by a certain Yamask.

“Oh um, hi. I’m really sorry if two of my Pokémon are behaving really mischievously, especially with my Ducklett: she is often the main prankster of the group,” Harry speaks to Ryner as he wrangles Cho and Gardenia before they can cause a ton of trouble.

“Either way, I’m here for the Stamp Rally and I am looking to get a stamp in this gym. Is there anything I need to know about this stamp challenge?”
