video (OTA) and a closed log
[The video opens at New Bark Town, overlooking Professor Elm's lab. While the camera is bobbing up and down slowly, the picture seems clear despite something blue is covering top right of the screen.]
"Star Platinum. Over here."
[There's a very loud gurgle from whoever is holding the camera. The camera turns to a man standing by the water, clad in snakeskin pants and a bright purple hat and jacket.]
"I could have used text but I figured this would be best for getting my name and face out there." [He sighs, muttering 'good grief' before continuing]. "My name is Jotaro Kujo. I'm a marine biologist and an oceanographer. I figured since I'm here, might as well put my skills to use and do some research. So... how do I get grants here? Do I need to reapply for my doctorate so it's more Pokemon-orientated? Or is there someone I battle in order to get my degree? I wanted to ask the professor here but he's not in so... answer."
[Thanks Jotaro]
--------------
[Ordinarily, Jotaro was pretty sure he could make it from New Bark Town to Cherrygrove City in two days. However, with the snowfall, the hike may be longer than three days, especially if he gets lost. Not that he will but Jotaro likes preparing for these things, even if prep is prolonged by the lack of stores in the town. But Jotaro makes do with what he has and he's confident he can make it surviving a week if need be.
He just has to do his final checks. Bag? Safely strapped to him. Pokemon? Star Platinum is in his ball. Map? Got it. Messages? Well, he doesn't need to send it again (he sent one to both Jolyne and Emporio when he got here). So... good. He's ready. He just needs to scan the horizon, try to predict the next snowstorm and...

Fuuuuuuck if I know. [... Oh, that's real comforting.] Probably taking Tear to the next city over and then using the warps or... something? Again, not the logistics person here.
[That's fully a Carly problem.]
It's at least warmer on the Islands, unlike this snow and ice and below freezing bullshit?

[And hey!] And of course you did! I know that, but I thought you were asking for a breakdown of a bullet list! Repeating a list isn't assuming you didn't agree!
[But, it definitely Sounds that way when one isn't expecting a list, so...]
Mmmmm. Really, even if we stayed together we'd need to split up as soon as you were in Cherrygrove- and that'd be a flight, I don't want to leave the Jenny's investigations unwatched for too long...
We'd be taking a different pokemon though, Tear needs rest first.
[Tear gives what might well be a grateful grumble in reply to that.]

[What was the point of this? If you're going to just leave after telling him what to do, why didn't you just leave it to a call? Jotaro would have been happy just seeing Jolyne's face again - there was no need for the two of them getting sick like this from warping. They could meet up afterwards (he definitely would have survived the trek).]
[He doesn't say much more than that. Not much he can add.]

You were getting the tent whether you liked it or not, I'm not gonna risk you turning into a damn popsicle out here or something since these winters ain't a joke.

Now then, let me just...
[She's gonna go get that thing from Tear...] We also brought some food~ Unlike the normal world, you'll find foraging just a little tricky here after all, and it's a few days walk...
[This feels backwards, somehow.]

[Jotaro frowns at Jolyne, since frowning at Carly would be lost with her back turned. He appreciates their help but he can't help but feel a little annoyed. What? They could survive on their own to start off with and he couldn't? He's not that weak or helpless. The cold isn't going to kill him.]
... Thanks.

Dunno why they don't change the starting stuff when it's cold as balls outside, because I'm pretty sure I'd have been a popsicle when I first got here, too. [If her extra clothing literally hadn't been the skiier outfit, she was going to be absolutely shit out of luck.]

[And to that end, she pouts as she brings the stuff over.] She's right too, the beginning bags are ridiculous! I haven't heard of anyone just hoofing it from here in the winter, and we've been here years! It'd be one thing if you had a fire pokemon, but it's a whole other story with something that's water type..!
[Jotaro will note, at least, that the pack isn't a lot. They really were just trying to give him what most, frankly, would consider a necessary leg-up.]

Something to complain to whoever upper administration is. [Is he joking? Being serious? Who can say.] I won't be long. I'll make sure I'm at Blackthorn and then Goldenrod at the allocated times, so don't worry about me.
[He assumes this is goodbye. It didn't sound like his family was staying around for long and he had places to go.
...]

I mean, I'm already consistently making the highest person I can find regret his life choices, so I think I'm already doing that. [Jolyne, bad. Jolyne, no.]
no subject
And oh geeze don't worry about Blackthorn..!! Just getting to Goldenrod will be tricky enough if you can't find a pokemon to ride in time...
We'll probably wrap up this whole...'who stole Santa's delibirds' thing soon anyway, it's fine.
[And Jolyne. Jolyne-
Jolyne...!!] Heheheee...yeah, we've got some stories to share once we're able to actually sit at a dinner table hehehehe~
OH-!!
And don't think this means radio silence from us either! You've got a daughter-in-law who likes a chat, a chat, that means I'm chatting!! [THATS A THREAT]

...I see. [He won't even blink at what investigation Carly's talking about. Add this to the 'may as well happen' list.]
Whenever you have the time. You have my phone number. [Gear number. Whatever.]
...Fly safe.
no subject
At... least... he can understand the "don't question it, it may as well happen" side of things. It's not like Stands and all that made any sense anyway, so this somehow makes more???? sense.]
'Course. Don't be afraid to give us a call if you want to or whatever, it's pretty quiet on the islands this time of the year so it's not like we're, or, well, I'm not super busy. [Sorry, Carly.]
no subject
[She almost sounds jealous...but at least it's only teasingly so.]
no subject
Sure. I'll at least message you if I don't call.
[That he can at least promise.] Take care. [And with a wave, he'll head off. He's never been good with goodbyes.]
