Early in the week, Riegfried and Soy sent out a recorded video: an invitation for all guests on this Paldean vacation to join them on a little field trip into Area Zero within the Great Crater of Paldea. It is a spot known for fascinating explorers, academics, and seasoned battlers, however is generally off-limits due to the dangerous nature of the very powerful pokemon within. Which makes it the perfect place for a little study trip!

(They add that the trip was approved by the Paldea League, which is in charge of granting such access, but isn’t the idea of heeding the call of adventure no matter what more thrilling?)

Jotaro's never been a history nerd. However, the assignment had sparked his interest or, more specifically, the prize. An Amulet Coin? For someone who is really bad at Breeding (Or just low in the JKBA ranking) having an item to increase Poke earned is useful.

So that's why Jotaro's out in the wilderness, in the rocky areas of area 5. You can find him squinting at various rocks and/or trees, keeping a careful eye out for them. Even if you're not looking for Gimmighouls, the tall, intimidating reacher will come up to you and just.... stare.

And she's looking...Stressed. Wow! Maybe New Years was just that much with the father-in-law around? Except she seemed pretty thrilled before the count down, so maybe not.

Either way, using a handy Rotom to float the phone at an appropriate camera angle, Carly stands in front of the gym.]

Hiiiii everyone~! It's Carly, here at the Love and War Gym..! And I need....a favor...

[Normally when the camera is on there's at least one volunteer in the background of the gym. They don't cycle too much, but they do seem to shuffle in and out, as volunteers often do. Her last batch was really fond of the place though best any visitors would have seen though! Where are they!!]

As people will notice...a lot of my ah, volunteers and staff are missinggggg...

...And will probably be....missing for a while, [she grumbles frustratedly, her rotom happily taking the initiative to add a brief filter of red over her while she says that. It's gone fast though!]

...So with that in mind, I'd love it if people came on over to fill in!~ It's just simple things, and it's not even the busy part of the year! I mean, most people are going back to school, vacations are over...

[[OOC - For the curious, Carly's secretly an Alpha Rocket- and to that end, her job involves regularly training grunts up in the art of Being Halfway Decent. ...Unfortunately her last team didn't really want to graduate, so instead of directly jeopardizing their dear teacher's job, they uh...well. They sure did get themselves arrested for other reasons. And they're going to continue being absolute menaces all month, tragically. (To say nothing of her paper work struggles in the background)

[The video opens at New Bark Town, overlooking Professor Elm's lab. While the camera is bobbing up and down slowly, the picture seems clear despite something blue is covering top right of the screen.]

"Star Platinum. Over here."

[There's a very loud gurgle from whoever is holding the camera. The camera turns to a man standing by the water, clad in snakeskin pants and a bright purple hat and jacket.]

"I could have used text but I figured this would be best for getting my name and face out there." [He sighs, muttering 'good grief' before continuing]. "My name is Jotaro Kujo. I'm a marine biologist and an oceanographer. I figured since I'm here, might as well put my skills to use and do some research. So... how do I get grants here? Do I need to reapply for my doctorate so it's more Pokemon-orientated? Or is there someone I battle in order to get my degree? I wanted to ask the professor here but he's not in so... answer."

The last few hours before dusk sees you all arriving at a large, stately home just outside of Lavender Town.

Unlike previous years, where Halloween had you visiting dilapidated castles, this manor home is in perfect condition. Age hasn't crumbled the walls or worn away the dark roof, but rather it sits on the manor like a heavy, proud crown, a testament to the many long years it has stood here while everything around it changed but it stayed forever the same. Candlelight flickers in its many windows, while it casts a dark shadow against the slowly setting sun. The gravel crunches under your feet as you make it up the long drive and a cold wind chills you to your very bones, even through the layers of whatever costume you've chosen to wear.

Then the manor's large double doors fling up. Two long shadows stretch down across the driveway towards you, light spilling around two silhouettes standing in the opened door, beckoning, inviting. Soy doffs his hat, while Riegfried bows deep, his hare ears nearly brushing the ground.

"Welcome to our Halloween Feast."

HELLO, KANTO-JOHTO! We're here to bring fantastic news, and the fantastic news is....! THE TWO ISLAND MARRIED GYMS ARE BOTH IN BUSINESS AGAIN~!

We're back to our regularly scheduled matches, so anyone who had an 'IOU' to fight Jolyne can come right over to try for the Badge of War again!

And to celebrate, there's going to be ice cream served free for the audience~! Er-

[Ahem. She pauses, looking somewhat somber.] While supplies last obviously, I'm not made of money here. Or ice cream.

[The cheer resumes, and she throws her hand in the air..] But if I know you, you're coming for more than ice cream, people..!! So if you're dropping in on that weeeeeird broadcast for Seven, make a pitstop at Two!

[Jolyne throws an arm around her wife's shoulder, and grins sharkishly at the camera.] And once you do, come through the gym's gallery to meet me for an asskicking!

Whoo! Hello everyone~ Happy 'I hope it's spring' soon, from the Sevii Islands~

Y'know I don't know if too many of you saw but there was actually a pretty big event that kicked off not long ago, but picking up the slack on a Gym that had two people just took waaaaaayyy too much out of me for that...

But I've got to know, what was it like! Sounded pretty fancyyyyy...~

[Carly....is not a Breeder. BUT She tells people she's one, since Rocket Agents get the breeder egg clutches, and also, because you don't tell anyone you're a Rocket that's dumb. It also means she obviously didn't Actually get an invite (and had to peek at someone else's to begin with), so she's got an image to uphold here.]

[Varian himself isn't on screen when the feed starts. Instead, the video first shows a quaking apple as Varian's voice is heard, speaking quietly.]

There's a Pokemon in there! I mean, I know there's Pokemon that look like food, but I'm pretty sure the apple is just an apple... And the Pokemon turned it into a defense, a-a home?

[He turns the Gear so he is on screen, giving a snorting little laugh. There is a Shroodle on his shoulder who looks far less amused, her eyes narrowed.]

It's just kind of funny! Back home, I worked a lot on keeping animals and bugs away from the apple trees. But they were just eating the apples, not living in them. [He taps the tip of the Shroodle's nose, and her angry expression eases up just a little.] Of course, Stain tried to eat the apple anyway. I'm not sure a fruit is the best thing to-- Oh!

[The camera flips, back on Applin, whose eyes are just barely peeking out.]

Look, there it is! You can barely tell the eyes aren't leaves. Does anyone know if these Pokemon inhabit other things?

[Unfortunately for everyone it's a little shaky at first before it steadies, the silver-white haired woman smiling at the screen before she moves to sit back down against a tree trunk. An absol sits at attention next to her, with a bounsweet being placed delicately in her lap. She didn't quite understand this whole thing yet, but she hadn't complained when the little mangsteen Pokemon had basically forced herself into her possession.]

I have a curious question for those that have been here for quite some time: does it get easier? [Oh, that... she's realizing that probably sounds worse than she had intended.] Ah! I mean adjusting to this place! You see, this is... absolutely not like what I am familiar with. It's not unwelcomed by any means, just odd!

[She seems a little more on-edge than before, mostly due to feeling like she might have put people off already by accident. The absol next to her immediately is shoving his face into her shoulder in... what is some kind of calming gesture while the bounsweet is looking up at her with a concerned little noise.]

Mm, it's fine, I promise... [She mutters softly before remembering this thing, a video, was it called? was still recording.]

I suppose my other question is if it's... a relatively normal thing for one of these creatures to decide to want to come with you instead of this whole fighting thing?

You arrive before the sun sets over the shining sea, a little before 5 o’clock. A fleet of Corviknight taxis descend near the entrance of the castle, slowly setting their passengers on the ground and allowing them to depart. The golden rays of sunshine illuminate the edges of the castle, casting long shadows and making it take on a rather ominous appearance. Better hop to it–you wouldn’t want to miss the Halloween party, now would you?

[The video feed starts with Marik shuffling cards between his hands. Chenzira is lazily flopped over his shoulder like usual, somewhere between being his normal melancholy self and finding his owner's shoulder really comfortable.]

This is a bit of an odd offer but for those of you who find your pokemon not entirely comfortable with battling, I've found a possible way to ease them into it.

[He holds up a card.]

This is from a card game back in my world called Duel Monsters. I was surprised to still have my deckbox on me when I arrived here. And then I was told some Pokémon were capable of learning how to write and speak so I thought I'd try my hand at teaching Chenzira here how to play.

[The Yamask lifts his head to glance into the camera.]

The rules are simple enough. Of course, I don't expect him to read what it says on the cards so I just tell him myself. But it's taught him how to think strategically and keep a calm head during battle. His confidence has improved a lot.

[He smiles and gives Chenzira a pat on the head, who attempts to hide his face again because oh no, master is embarrassing me...]

Heh... I have enough cards to be able to split my deck into two so... I was curious if anyone wanted to learn how to play, whether it's for yourself or your Pokémon. Obviously it's easier to do in person but I think I can make it work over the network.

If you're interested, let me know! I'm currently in Cherrygrove but I'll be leaving to head to Violet Town in a few days.
