Who: Boober & others Where: Paldea When: April & May Summary: Paldea trip catch-all Warnings: Mild language, probably, due to the company Boober keeps. Anything more will get marked in threads!
Yeah, I guess it is more that way. Either way, I still have to see Steed regularly.
[It's a complaint more for the sake of complaining than anything else, both because his disdain for Steed at this point mostly exists because of how they first met, and because he heard that yawn.]
I, um... You know, I can tell you more about what happened later. But before I start on-- The windstorms and the socks and everything else... Let's just lie down for a little while. I missed-- Well, I didn't miss just being quiet with you, really. I couldn't exactly miss anything from here.
[He swallows heavily. He still doesn't want to think about that part too hard.]
But it'd be nice, I think, um... To do that, now that we can again.
[Yeah, he knows he's not exactly convincing when he tries to deceive others, but Riz is so resistant towards sleep. Boober's got to try, even if it's dishonest and unlike to succeed. And hey, it did work one time, more or less!]
[It's a touching thing to hear, and Boober wouldn't be able to deny that request even if he wanted to. But as it is, he doesn't want to, because he gets it. He's been there. And it's not like Boober isn't up to talking; he's not the one who's tired right now. He leans his head against Riz's, letting out a soft, content sigh. His voice is just as gentle-sounding as he speaks.]
So, one of the races fraggles have is called the Twisty-Turny-Thon. It's just as silly as it sounds, and I've never been interested in doing more than enforcing the rules for it.
We had another one, and instead of competing Gobo was going to just go get a postcard from Traveling Matt. But that's against the rules, you see.
Yes, and I enforced them with Gobo! But, maybe just this once, I should have let it go. The rule is that if you drop out of the race, you need to appoint someone to take your place.
[Another sigh, but this time, without any of the hopelessly sappy tone to it.]
I started to, even if I wasn't happy about it. Those are the rules, after all.
Except, right after it started, I fell down. [Boober actually stops sounding dismayed by the whole ordeal when he brings that up.] It was just a little stumble, but... Well, the rules also say an injured player doesn't have to compete in the race.
[Riz would feel more concerned if Boober didn't sound so absolutely pleased with his injury. He pokes Boober's unguarded side, grinning into his shoulder.]
It's true. I think the most you or Mando, or anyone here, has ever done is just to reinforce how I already was.
[A quiet laugh.]
Even when it comes laundry and cooking. At least, in a sense, because I've had so many chances to practice new things with both just being here. Even just knowing you, Riz. Your clothes really do get the weirdest food stains sometimes, you know. And there's always new ones.
Mmm. [Riz really can't deny that. So he won't.] 'Least s'not blood.
[That is something his clothes get stained with a lot back home. But due to the nature of not fighting and killing creatures and/or humans here, his clothes have been spared from that fate.]
[Oh, he's adorable. In his own, weird Riz way. Boober leans his cheek against the top of Riz's head, nuzzling in just a bit.]
I'm glad it's not. Besides, I already know how to get blood stains. I haven't had to do it often, but sometimes fraggles really do fall and get scraped up during races or games.
Oh, sure. Radishes may be what I'm normally working with at the Rock, but it's far from the only produce we've got. Sometimes what I'm used to is a little different there than it is here, but even before we had strawberries, we had plenty.
[And while he hadn't started to say all that with the intent of listing off examples, it is a lot he can just say while letting his own mind wander and Riz still hear him talk. Maybe he'll even nod off.]
There's corns, carrots, all kinds of peppers... Potatoes of course... Some kinds of nuts grow in the tunnels. Beans, too. We have a few kinds of melons, spinach, kale...
[Riz's head nods towards Boober's neck. He's still super awake though! Awake and listening. Definitely not drifting a little as Boober starts summing up a litany of vegetables.]
Mmhm. There are a few kinds of beans, but they're all little. Pebble beans, wiggly beans, and tumble beans.
[There aren't actually that many varieties Boober can think of unique to Fraggle Rock, but that's not nearly enough to stop him.]
Kidney beans, navy beans, black beans, garbanzo beans...
[Every once in a while, he nuzzles his cheek against Riz's hair again. This might have come from wanting Riz to get some needed sleep, but it's nice to cuddle up like this. Sure, he couldn't miss it before, but they can still make up for lost time.]
[Riz makes a soft little sighing noise as his breath starts evening out, the sleep and exhaustion winning from his desire to stay up and listen to Boober. Soon enough, he'll be deep enough asleep that Boober can slip away and do other things if he so wishes. Or he can stay here and cuddle Riz some longer. Riz cannot object either way.]

I don't think it's Mando who's really keeping that Durant around. Spicy does, and Mando is just too much of a sucker to say no.

No, no. Keep talking. I wanna hear about everything that happened while you were asleep.
[Riz hesitates, then adds, a little quieter]
I listened to you be quiet for more than a week. I just wanna hear you talk about stuff.
[Laundry. Socks. Plants. It doesn't matter. He just wants to hear anything but just soft snoring and huffed little breaths.]

[Listen, Riz generally loves rules too! But he would also let his besties break every rule. Except the seatbelt rule. That one stays intact.]

And Gobo appointed me.

You ran a race? You?

Uhuh. And I'm sure you were grievously injured.

[He is very proud of how this went, and isn't at all trying to hide it.]
You know me, Riz. I'm always on the safe side when it comes to matters of health. Now, watching the race, that was fine.

You know, sometimes I wonder if we are corrupting you, but you've always been like this.

How 'bout... creamed corn?
