Dead In The Water
Who: Anyone who's invited to (or snuck aboard) the S.S. Aria
Where: Temporarily Vermilion and Olivine, then the Sevii Islands and the open ocean
When: October 4-15
Summary: It's a lovely little cruise... until it's not.
Rating: Mark your threads if necessary! But at a minimum: gambling, sinking ship peril, and hostile wild Pokemon
OOC Info: here!

The cruise starts out unremarkably - at least, as luxury cruises go! The weather on the ocean is lovely, making for calm and smooth sailing. The chefs are on point, the on-board spa is stocked up, the gambling tables rattle merrily with tokens, and there’s something for everyone with the nightly shows (though, admittedly, it particularly helps to be interested in Pokemon battles). The stops at each of the Sevii Islands are only a handful of hours each, unfortunately, before the ship has to sail onward… but you can’t have everything!
Rooms are small but cozy, with fold-down beds and tucked-away luggage racks. Rooms even each have their own showers, although those are rather cramped. Small Pokemon are allowed in rooms and practically anywhere on board; large Pokemon are only allowed up on deck and must be supervised, but the deck is open at all hours.
Trainers who signed up for a ride in exchange for battling will find their on-stage battling shifts spread out over several nights, giving them ample time to enjoy a normal relaxed dinner on other days. Administration expects them to accept any audience challenges, but otherwise simply battle amongst each other - fortunately, as long as the fights are entertaining, there’s absolutely no penalty to losing!
In deference to the spooky season, the ship is decked out in Pumpkaboo, Trevenant, and other haunted-looking decorations, and one of the dinners is designated as a costume night. In addition, pumpkins (that are not Pumpkaboos), carving kits, and little electric lights are available upon request. Many passengers seem to have carved and lit their pumpkins and left them right outside their doors in the hallways!
Behind the scenes, sailors, housekeeping, and kitchen staff bustle industriously, giving unimpressed looks to the jokers on the ship’s deck that are acting out scenes from the Cetitanic. But in retrospect… perhaps those wisecrackers were being unusually prescient…?
When the S.S. Aria finally turns around to head back from the Islands, it heads directly into a storm. While it makes the boat experience rather a lot of turbulence (hope you’re not easily made seasick!) all otherwise seems normal…
Until, in the dead of the night, there’s a loud, ship-shaking impact to the hull.
Just in case that wasn’t enough to wake everyone up into a panic, or on the off chance anyone is telling themself they were just imagining it… it’s followed by several more impacts in short succession, and the screech of mangled metal. The sound of the engine goes abruptly silent.
The ship is… well, it’s time for a title drop!
If anyone decided to stay in their room and try to sleep through it, or miraculously wasn’t woken in the first place, they’ll soon hear loud knocking as the crew goes door to door. They’re summoning passengers and staff alike up to the ballroom, the largest hall in the ship. It turns out the ship is not just stalled in the water, it’s actually starting to sink! But don’t panic, plans for an evacuation are in progress. Don’t mind the storm outside, something will get worked out… but any chance you happen to have a strong Water Pokemon with you? Why? Oh, no particular reason, just wondering…
Except, as if that weren’t bad enough, the sounds of the wind and rain are shortly joined by eerie wailing. Something is swarming outside…

Emporio Alniño | OTA | come help his fashion career everyone
[It was a pleasant surprise for Emporio, receiving the invitation he did. Having two of all things now- one which he promptly gave to a friend of course, because how else were they going to get on- wasn't exactly something he expected. On the one hand, the Aurora league recognized him as a member, and thus, he'd received an invitation from the official league itself.
On the other, after a bit of confusing back and forth in his emails, he'd already gotten one secured from a young designer who claimed to have found him through those photos he'd agreed to a few weeks back. Supposedly, she thought he had the perfect attitude for some costumes she'd designed for halloween parties. He almost said no, but...
'Ghost types are so overrated for the season, and Dark is close behind! I want to show there are just as spooky designs to draw from other Pokemon too!!'
....In the end, he was not only curious, but maybe a little touched not to be type cast for once...even so, as he shares the story-]
...So in the end, I gave her the spare so that she could bring an extra person. It was her idea, and I probably wouldn't have come otherwise... [He wonders who the lucky +1 is...
Well. Emporio adjusts his hold on an egg incubating via a device held up front, over his more typical-for-the-season Decidueye sweater.] So how did you get your ticket?
[COME SAIL AWAY]
[WE MISSED OUT ON THE POT OF GOLD - ACTION]
[There's a casino on board, but anyone who invites him there- be it near or far from the casino's entry- gets him shaking his head.] Ahahahaha...I...really better not actually, [He coughs.] ...It's not so much gambling as it is puzzles and...I'm still chasing off people who watched me clean the house at Voltorb flip when I was a kid so...
[There's a story there. Wow.]
[REFLECTIONS IN THE WAVES - VIDEO]
Hey everyone! Greetings from the artist's chair!
[Emporio seems to be in a salon chair! He's not holding the phone either- that's what the accompanying photographer's Rotom is for, and thank goodness. Whatever Emporio is wearing, it looks kinda fancy...at least, what can be seen so far.]
Most of this is currently under a sheet for it's protection...and probably the surprise, but I've got permission to talk while they set things up here! We're preparing the first costume I agreed to show off at the Cruise parties.
[He treats it rather casually- it isn't as if he thinks low of any of this, he just doesn't think it's that big of a deal. It's fancy clothes. Nothing to get fussed over, right?]
Okay, I've got the lashes, the mascara highlights...
[From behind Emporio, the make-up artist is gathering some...VERY hot pink articles, and even just looking through the camera of the Pokegear, Emporio's eyes widen a bit comically. He barely stops from giving a startled laugh, though the motion is there.
Lest he incur any more awkward a situation, he mouths at the screen-
...Highlights?
What did he sign up for exactly??]
[MY HEART WILL GO ON]
[FAR ACROSS THE DISTANCE]
[When the first crash hits, he's actually just on his way back from the upper decks.
The photo-op went on a little longer than he anticipated. And he still has two more of the things! ...He can't say it wasn't fun though. The trouble, it seemed, was just getting the right ambience for the shots. This was a spooky, nautical costume, with hints of untold and ancient things- in the words of the designer, anyway. She muttered something about a Lord Helix, but he'd been a bit distracted by what he was looking at in the mirror at the time.
With the full package deal though- clothes, make-up, etc- he got to join in the parties that went late into the evening, and then go back up to a largely darkened deck for the sake of spooky camera shots. Just him, the designer, the cameraman...and some kind of eerie glows in the distance that only added to the whole thing really.
Maybe he should have worried more about the glows.
He figured they were ghost Pokemon, but running back upstairs, now he can't help wondering if ignoring the lights was a bad idea.] Water Pokemon?
[He's still in costume, needless to say.]
Yeah, I have Tulush with me, since she was supposed to be the inspiration...But, exactly what's going...
[He trails off. Maybe whoever came up alongside him can see it too, now that he's looking. Not just whatever's at the ship, but whatever is approaching the ship-]
....Oh. That's....a lot...
[Yikes!]
[YOU'RE HERE, THERE'S NOTHING I FEAR]
[And if you look far down to the port side of the ship, you'll see what Emporio ended up doing to help resolve the situation. With all the heightened emotions, it's no suprise all those Ghost Pokemon were coming out of the wood work. Really, it wasn't. Others would probably be more worried about that, but Emporio's been here for a few years now.
If Emporio didn't notice that Ghost Pokemon really dig him by now, even he'd be worried about himself. But as it stands.
Ghost Pokemon Dig Emporio. It's been the bane of his existence. For all that he went fighting the League dressed up to match his Gengar, he trains plenty of Pokemon who aren't Ghosts! And sure, he wears a lot of purple, and he's blond, and these are things that Morty sure has in common but..!!
Well it's fine.
Because Emporio is going to take advantage of that, and that's exactly what can be seen out on the water now.
Emporio, standing calmly on Tulush's shell as she surfs him out there, a pack of various Ghost Pokemon surging after him like he's the Pied Piper of Olivine. Without the Pied. Or the Piping, 'Pipe-ular' as he seems to be.
And he IS pipe- ahem, Popular. It's a good thing he's not panicking, honestly, because the sight of a teen decked out in fancy victorian cult-wear, getting lifted out of the ocean alongside his Omastar by the sheer volume of Pokemon under them, without flinching or faltering is...PRETTY INTENSE!
...
The photographers from other events on the ship are certainly going to have a field day with this.]
no subject
He points behind him, where a Loudred and Alolan Marowak are wheeling his packed up synth.]
We're working. We're still hoping to have some fun in our downtime though. It's pretty cool to be on a cruise.
[It's probably not the vacation he would've picked himself, but it's still pretty exciting and they're even being paid to be here.]
no subject
Congratulations! A cruise gig should be a pretty good deal right? And there should definitely be a good amount of downtime to enjoy...probably more than the trainers get if I think about it, [he mutters more quietly.]
Honestly I'm kind of relieved with how I got here, even if they still want me to have at least one match. I don't think I'd be able to fully enjoy myself otherwise...

When they learned that he was able to get all but ONE Jotho badges, they had asked him to come along on the ship’s maiden voyage though it does come with the catch: he was to join in some of the matches for the entertainment. Harry still can’t believe that he was able to get one a cruise as he arrives at port to start this vacation.)
Someone from their crew saw me battling and found out that I have 7 badges so far. So I’ll be juggling friendly battles for some nights in exchange for the ticket. Never been on a cruise before until now.

It's not a bad way though- and if it's anything like the S.S. Anne, it should be pretty fun! League winners get annual tickets for that one actually, [he remarks with a slight blush.] It's a little weird to think about...cruises back home were associated with, well...

FAR ACROSS THE DISTANCE
Jotaro dashes up the stairs next to Emporio. Oh, the kid is here. Jotaro doesn't even give Emporio's outfit a second glance (Heck, it's actually more normal for him than what everyone else wears) but his eyes narrow as he sees the Pokemon approaching. Even without Star Platinum (the Stand, not the Palafin next to him), he can see a whole plethora of ghosts.]
Give me a fucking break... [Jotaro frowns. He wants to rub his temples but now isn't the time for it as he glares out.] Of all the days to only have two water Pokemon with me... Fine. Guess we're getting ready to battle.

Emporio groans in his hands.]

Harry Potter | OTA
(To say that he was able to get an invite to a new ship over getting almost all the Jotho badges comes as a big surprise to him. And honestly he was in a loss for words when he got the free invite to the S.S. Aria. Apparently whoever gave him the invite must be impressed by his battling skills enough that they extended such generosity towards him on the condition that he will also do some battles for the ship entertainment on some nights.
After all the chaos from the previous months, he could sure use a break. He has never been on a ship before so why not take this opportunity to have a vacation and work on his Clair battle strategy and photography skills. He can only hope that this vacation won’t end up as a disaster soon. Little did he knew that he was about to be proven wrong, very wrong.)
Calm Before the Storm
That was really a good performance you did there, guys. I know that it was a rough one and we didn’t got the win for the night, but trust me, you all did wonderful. Now just have some fun on deck among yourselves and try to be safe doing so.
(Harry gets to talk to his team as they just went through a battle they had wrapped up and are currently enjoying the sea breeze on the promenade. The team is composed of Lily the Hisuian Deicidueye, Godric the Hisuian Arcanine, Violet the Espeon, Roger the Pikachu, Olympe the Lapras, and Dobby the Furret. They all chitter and nod before they went off on their own to play with other Pokémon.
While they did managed to fight hard, their most recent opponent barely managed to get a win against them and Harry has just congratulated her for her well earned victory. After all, he still has to lose some battles from time to time so he can learn more. While his team is enjoying their free time, Harry brings out his cameras and proceeds to take pictures of the night sky at sea.
The peace and calmness the sea brings have been a welcoming relief from the panic he had for the last few months over the teleporter incident and Maushold antics, so he is taking this time to relax and have a nice moment to himself before going back inside.)
Ship in Danger
(As soon as the first crash hits, Harry was just at the upper deck and he barely hung onto the rails as the waves almost made him lost his balance. Lily hoots in concern as her feathers ruffled up while Dobby hides behind him by the leg. At first it was eerily silent as he glances around the area, hoping that nothing bad has happened onto the ship guests and crew just yet.
Lily then feels a chill around her neck and proceeds to squawk at him while pointing at the fog. The young man turns around to find a pack of Ghost Pokémon. Oh great, just great. And just when he thought that this vacation hasn’t turned upside down. They don’t seem to be like the ghost Pokémon who formed a fan club for him and would often visit and cheer him on whenever he goes to Ercuteak City. These ones look like they are not in the mood for friendly diplomacy right now and he is not sure if he should reach out to them or fight them off with his team.
Now Harry wishes that he could have access to his magic to defend the people onboard and his team at this mowing, but alas that is not very likely in this world so he will have to find another way to keep the peace and not die in the process. Perhaps can his camera come in clutch to save the day too?)
Erm… Nice ghost Pokémon. Good ghost Pokémon. Um, look: we didn’t mean to disturb the peace tonight. Look, it was just an accident that the ship crossed paths to your area, I swear.
Ship in danger
Without registering that Harry might be trying to negotiate, Jotaro sends out his Pokemon.]
Star Platinum! Ward them off! Flip Turn! Bread! Use Crunch!
[Jotaro's Palafin cries loudly as he launches himself at a Dreepy. The Palafin then retreats to the Pokeball and out springs Jotaro's Daschbun. The dog gives a loud, affirmative yelp and digs his teeth into a Dhelmise, before flinging it off the boat like a frisbee.]
Are you okay?
no subject
Lily lets out a relieved hoot as she looks around for any more signs of danger.)
Still shaken up from the confrontation with the ghost Pokémon and the ship rocking quite a bit. It happened so fast that I wasn’t able to register things as they come.

Isabela Madrigal | OTA
Got to admit, this is my first time going on a ship for a nice vacation at sea. I never took a cruise before so this is going to be a big one for me.
(Isabela was very lucky that all the odd jobs and errands she has taken up for a good while allow her to have a good amount of money to buy a ticket to the S.S. Aria. The young lady has never been on a ship back in her world with living in a town surrounded by jungles and mountains galore, so she is not going to miss the chance to check it out.
Her Pokémon are also as excited as she is as they happily walked around the decks in a gleeful energy. The only one who doesn’t seem to show this much excitement among the group is her Dhelmise Sancho. Sancho seems to keep their emotions and thoughts to themself, making it a bit difficult to read their emotions. They simply hover around as she takes this time to enjoy the mostly empty area before crowds will come up for the sail away party.)
Days at Sea
(For the most part, Isa is taking her time enjoying the views of the sea. The girl hasn’t gotten to enjoy sea views for a while mow so it is much welcomed. She is also looking forward to seeing the Sevii Islands, it has been a long time since she visited it while Luisa was still in the world; for now though, she is taking her time to check out the ship facilities.
She could be spotted getting a nice manicure at the spa, enjoying a nice relaxing dip at the hot tub, or playing with her Pokémon at the deck. It shouldn’t be hard to spot her with her ever present and colorful pollen hair dye streaks.)
Dhelmise Whisperer
(Who knew having a Dhelmise on hand in your team would be a handy thing to have during a swarm of angry Ghost Pokémon at sea? This is not exactly what she would imagined signing up for a cruise trip but she could try to handle this. She has a couple of them by now that she can tell right away how they behave towards people.
Sancho, her Dhelmise, is currently locked into a staring contest with the main wild Dhelmise while her Scovillain Cappy is too busy trolling many of the wild Ghost types much to Carmen and Amarantha’s joint dismay. The Roserade and Meowscarada facepalm in embarrassment as Isa tries to get the two Dhelmise to stop the ongoing chaos.
If the wild Dhelmise doesn’t want to compromise, then she will have to fight it off with Sancho to keep everyone onboard the ship from any further danger.)
Days at Sea
On this occasion it's Ry the Plusle and Boom Box the Loudred who are tagging along. Ry runs up to greet Isabela's Pokémon while Boom Box sticks close to his trainer.]
Sorry. He's got too much energy.
no subject
(Isabela tells Min as she waves at him and Boom Box while everyone else is greeting Ry. Matcha the Polchageist is happily hovering in the air, being mindful to not accidentally drop their sleep inducing powder on anybody.
Carmen asks her Pokémon friends if anyone is interested in playing games to pass the time, and she gets a loud amalgamation of noises as she tries to get a proper answer.)
How’s the trip so far? It happens to be my first time attending a cruise, with loved ones or on my own.

Vacation on a Ship
[ His own homeland was landlocked. The closest thing to the ocean he's ever seen is Lake Kauroy just outside of Dublith, and as he stares off the side of the deck at the seemingly endless stretch of water, his chest feels tight and tangled-up. His hands grip tight around the handle of the heavy bucket he's lugging along, out of which is peeking a comparatively placid-looking Feebas. ]
I didn't... know that ships could even get so big. And where are the sails? How's it going to get anywhere without sails?
[ He's not really expecting the young lady to know the answer– more muttering anxiously to himself... to her, the older man likely seems a little eccentric, dressed as he is in a flamboyant Rocket-funded alola shirt and a floppy, wide-brimmed hat, under the shade of which rests a pair of impressively large sunglasses. ]
no subject
(Isabela admits to the guy next to her. She too lived in a mostly landlocked area with only a river and maybe a waterfall as the only forms of water she has ever seen growing up. But she has seen more water since her arrival when she went on trips to Sevii Islands: one during one of the weird weekends to attend Keith’s wedding, the other with Luisa before she vanished. Still she hadn’t been on a full on cruise until now.
Sancho just does the Dhelmise equivalent of a shrug as they all approach the ship, wondering if their Trainer thought bringing them along was meant to be a well-meaning visual joke. Because of ships and anchors. They want to apologize in advance for any silly shenanigans she is about to unleash onto the wold.)
As for this ship lacking sails, from what I can tell based on my previous ferry adventures, they have been built with machinery that allows them to sail on waters without having to rely on the winds too often. I’m not an expert of maritime engineering myself but that is the best explanation that I can give to you.

Vacation on a Ship
[Rui chuckles, thinking back on it. And then he realizes how ominous saying that might sound at the start of a cruise. His shiny Quaxwell acts dramatically shocked.]
Surely this time will end differently though. The odds are rather low of a ship this big having too much trouble, I believe.
no subject
(Isabela smiles as she speaks to him. It must be nice to meet a fellow traveler as they begin to board the ship.)
Whoa! You got stuck on a deserted island? Never heard of that many people who ended up in the same situation as your troupe before, let’s just hope that we won’t get stranded on one during this trip.
Um, is your Pokémon alright? It looks like they’re being a bit scared at the moment.

Cali Macabre | Original Character | OTA
The fates have apparently smiled on Cali! After making a visit to one of the wheels in Town, Cali got insanely luck and won a ticket to the cruise! One UBird trip later, it was the S.S. Aria time for Cali, Sweet Sixteen, Chantilly, and now Alfinse.
One of the things Cali had been looking forward to the most was getting to watch Tenn and Peller perform after meeting them previously at the Swinub Scurry several months ago. With Alfinse in arm, Chantilly on the shoulder, and Sweet Sixteen grumping in his backpack nest, Cali goes about touring the ship before the show starts up.
"Holy smokes dude, this is so awesome!" Cali cheerily said to whoever was next to her on this
ill-fatedwonderful cruise.B. COME SAIL AWAY WITH ME! (Onboard)
It was showtime and Cali was eager as she sat at the table with her Pokemon and whoever was lucky to sit with them. Cali had been looking forwards to this the most, it was the one thing that was on Cali's list she had to see.
This would also be Cali's first magic show to witness, the Orions didn't provide much in live entertainment. It would be about fifteen minutes until Tenn and Peller would come onto stage, giving Cali time to socialize a bit before it begins.
"Have you seen Tenn and Peller before? I never been to a magic show before."
C. I THOUGHT THAT THEY WERE ANGELS, BUT TO MY SURPRISE! (Ship Attack)
Well apparently like November rain, the pleasant cruise certainly didn't last forever as Cali gets woken with a start. The ship was shaking and Cali had to gather her Pokemon to see what was going on.
The wailing sound could be heard as Cali carried her Pokemon out, not sure what that sound could be or rather, if it was a bad thing. In the chaos, Cali managed to get through to whoever else was in the dark about the situation.
"Hey..do you know where the life boats are?"
D. SET AN OPEN COURSE FOR THE VIRGIN SEAS! (Wildcard)(Please feel free to slide something else in or Brainstorm with me either on the PM on my character journal/PP me on my Plurk :'> )
C. (but B was so tempting with the Tenn and Peller throwback...)
The only Pokémon he has out is his Azumarill, Killer Queen. As a water-type it seemed wise to have her on hand during all this, but even she looks a little concerned by whatever's going down.
"I don't," he admits, though it's something he'd been wondering himself. The wake up call hadn't exactly given them much information, but this seems concerning. "Maybe it won't come to that? They said to meet up in the ballroom..."
That, at least, he does know the way to.
I'm absolutely game for bringing in Tenn and Peller for the thread if you'd like? Team Survival buds
"That sounds like a good starting point to me, let's go together then to the ballroom. Maybe there's a plan underway there?" Cali goes to shift her arm a bit to make things a bit more comfortable for Alfinse during such a troubling situation.
Chantilly, on the other hand or shoulder if you will, was looking tempted to get the PokeGear for this one.
They're going to start hiring Min and Cali as security at this rate
They really should complete with walkie talkies (they have to covered entirely with stickers)
Yessss
Excellent, sticker walkie talkies are a go >:3c Also would you like to cue up Tenn and Peller?

"Ah... Cali," he says as he turns back to look at her, "I'm not sure. I think on a ship like this, they would be on the main deck, towards the center of the boat. That would be the logical place to put them..." He frowns.
"What the hell is going on here?"
Re: C
"I'm not sure either or what the sound is outside.." Cali goes to make sure Alfinse is comfortable in her arm as she shifts a bit, "We just woke up to the sudden stop and the weird sounds from outside. Is it a storm?"
The only one of Cali's Pokemon that looked ready to commit heinous crimes was Sweet Sixteen from her backpack. He was pissed about being woken up and good grief the old man apple pie dragon was wanting blood for it. At least Sweets has the right spirit for this situation, just...ghosts can't be killed again..right? RIGHT?

I'm just picturing Cali pointing at Primarina and going 'Is that Lapras?'
Jotaro painstakingly getting his Primarina out so he can explain the difference
Cali watches, listens, and goes 'Oh they're from the same family like distant cousins.'
Considering they're both in the same egg group, JoJo can't disagree with her
I forgot about the egg group there for a moment :x

Part of that excitement is Cali's rubbing off on him, no doubt. But as someone who loves shows and has dabbled in slight of hand, Rui is interested what they'll do.
"I've been to a couple back home, myself. They're fun. I especially like trying to figure out the magic they use~" Rui chuckles, thinking back to his time as a kid trying to figure out simple tricks.
