[video / action for Route 37]

[As is usual whenever Ford makes a post, the feed clicks on and he immediately starts talking.]

Take a look at this!

[He lifts up his hands -- both of them, because as usual, Roswell is holding the 'gear. Cradled in his palms and looking just a tad bit overwhelmed to be on video is--]

Fungus!

[Yep. It's a Morelull, and he is just over the moon about it.]

I had thought that Foongus and Amoongus were the only mushroom-imitating Pokemon (not counting, of course, the parasitic variety that preys on the Paras line). I have read through the Pokedex quite a few times since my arrival and there was never mention of this species, but lo and behold, an entry has appeared for Morelull sometime within the last few days. Is this a common occurrence? Is there always potential for completely new Pokemon to simply materialize out of the ether? Fantastic.

And sensible. There are over fourteen thousand species of mushroom native to my own dimension, to say nothing of molds and yeasts. That only a select few Pokemon have ever adapted a similar biology is surprising when fungus is one of the more successful organisms as a general rule; my assumption now is that there are many, many more and we simply haven't stumbled upon them yet. Not only that but Morelull is Grass and Fairy type! I wonder if they naturall congregate in rings in their resting day state--

[Oh my god. This is so cool. This is so cool you guys. Does this mean he's going to be spending the rest of his time in Johto aggressively checking rotten logs for new Pokemon species? Probably.]

Showed up around Halloween, about two years ago. These assholes who called themselves Teams Aqua and Magma had summoned a couple legendary Pokemon to wreck everything - and they still thought they were the good guys, if you'd believe it, it was a huge pain. But then Arceus showed up and stopped them, and he did some stuff to fix everything they'd broken, and pretty much a day or so later, Rose pulled me away excitedly to show me that she was suddenly immune to dragons.

...Her and about half a dozen members of my team.

[Armin can only dream of being as Nerdy as Ford one day.]

It sort of makes me feel like I could live in this world my entire life and still keep learning new things.

[And what a wonderful thought that would be.]

I know that sort of thing isn't really possible, but...

[He's fifteen, ok. Let him dream.]

Surely you must not be looking hard enough! Zey attack people so zey can be battled, almost every town has a Gym, zere ees no information about zis place's history or government, but zere are schools... ONLY FOR BATTLING.

Zis entire 'world' ees based on battling, right down to zese creatures.

I really like that theory, actually...

I'm definitely writing it down and I'll see what I can find out. It'd make a lot of sense if it holds water. Some dogs are born with really short legs and some with long snouts depending on where they are and their need. At least that's how things were before we domesticated the shit out of them. So, in theory, Pokemon became plant like or fish like because there was either an abundance of water or a ton of sunlight. It just depended on their needs at the time?

That'd be some interesting evolution. It'd explain why a wide variety of species can breed but if you get too far off the mark things don't work out quite right. Or at least that's what I read. You can't breed your fish with a bird. They have to still fall into specific categories.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm still learning and getting the jist of all this.

Amazing! That's the great thing about this place--it keeps changing! Why, I remember a few years ago new Pokemon started to appear and our Pokedexes had no idea what to do! they hadn't been updated yet, so for a long while, people referred to Goomies as Bloobers.

I think some still do.

What!

[THIS IS THE MOST DELIGHTFUL THING DAVE HAS EVER HEARD, EVER!

Beside himself with hype, Dave leans down from his seat, picks up a beautiful, blue-shelled shiny Shuckle, and places said Shuckle in his lap so he can see the screen.]

You hear that, Lucky? Your species is whack.

[Good Luck Shuck just tucks all his limbs into his shell and cocks his head at a funny angle. Hello, Ford. 'Sup?]

[Armin thinks it over for a moment, picking his words carefully.]

I suppose the best way to put it is that it feels like I have a duty to go back.
