video || action for Violet City
It seems like these are going around lately.
[But boy if he doesn't sound unhappy to be asking this question. His Haunter is leaning onto camera, patting his shoulder with a ghostly hand -- looking oddly solemn for a ghost. In the background is Shiro's Lairon nudging around a puffed-up and huffy Litten (newly arrived thanks to being Team Mystic earlier).]
[The Lairon pauses, looking over to his trainer, while the Litten crawls all over him in true excited kitten fashion.]
But has anyone seen Keith, lately? Dark hair, wears red. His partner was a cat. I thought he'd gone to take care of something, but... he hasn't shown up in a long time.
He'd usually be back by now.

When they come back, they might be from a different time. Older or younger. They might remember their time here, or they might not.
That's not necessarily not a good thing, it's just... it is what it is.
[And that can sometimes it is indeed not a good thing.]
[That's a statement that feels... wildly appropriate to so much of his life, lately.]
[He glances down, thinking over what she's said -- with his Lairon's nose butting up into frame until he pats it.]
And I guess it's one of those things where no one's figured it out yet, huh?
I've been here more than six years. Believe me, if there was some kind of pattern to make sense of... I'dve noticed it.
... Did you ever get sent back? That you remember?
If this place ever wants to get rid of me, it had better be ready to chloroform me and dump me out the back of the moving universe, because that's the only way I'm going out.
So... I'm guessing saying you're attached to this place is a huge understatement, huh?
The world I came from has nothing left for me.
[There's Douglas, but as much as she loves him...]
[If it weren't for the heavy weight leaning against his leg, the choice would be simple. But... leaving would let this team down. Wouldn't it? And staying... what if that lets the universe down?]
I'd say I was sorry, but... more, I'm glad someone out there knows what home is. Even if it's not where they started out.
[He pauses.]
And yes, I know how cheesy that sounds.
When you start out where I started out, you know 'home' is something you have to find.
I can't really compare. I feel like I had one, before... things got weird.
[An understatement.]
Finding it probably makes you appreciate it a lot more.
It can be a hard lesson to learn, though. Even when you should really know better than to take something like home for granted.
[She heaves a bit of a sigh, there. That got a little more aimed-at-herself than she'd intended. Better get back on track.]
Anyway... your friend might wind up coming back. Even if he doesn't have his memories when he does, it'll still be a good thing. And if he doesn't, well, you'll see him when you go back, if you do.
Good or bad, nothing's forever.
We just all have to take advantage of what we have here, while we have it.
... I know I never did.
[And maybe he's still trying to process it, in some way. Because who knows if they're ever going back to Earth. Especially now.]
"Good or bad, nothing's forever". Did you ever think about getting into the self-help business?
[It's a joke. But... that's probably a good thing. Probably a good thing he's kidding around, at least a little.]
And then the jig would be up, and I'd be ruined.
[L a n c e.]

I am pretty charismatic, though, it's true.
... and thank you. For all of this.
... In all seriousness, I've been here a long time, and I've lost a lot of people. It never gets easier, but you do learn how to cope with it.
The most important thing is never letting it fool you into thinking the time you have with someone is meaningless.
[For a lot of reasons. Thanks, Space Trauma.]
Simple as that, huh?
... I won't forget. Either way.
